September 26th, 2023: Driving south along US-191 through Monticello, Utah, I noticed some bright red foliage in the nearby Abajo Mountains, and had to check it out. Surrounded by a rather arid landscape, this bit of the Manti-La Sal National Forest is a refuge, harboring a great mix of trees. The bigtooth maple were near peak and the aspens were getting ready to turn.
