Great capture! I love any footage from the CPKC Calgary-Edmonton line because of how iconic it is and also how close to the railway you get while on the highway next to it.. Good old Highway 2A, the OG link between the two cities... Just wish the province the the railway finally got a deal done to double-track the line and FINALLY offer high speed passenger rail on it again... I.e. a hydrogen-version of the 240 kmh Jettrain which was previously proposed to run this line... As much as I like the Prairie Link proposal by Ellis Don to build a 350 kmh TGV on a Greenfield alignment? The cost and uncertainly about potential revenue makes it just one leap too big for most people these days. Especially when this tech could do the job nicely... ;-)

Which of those units are Hydrogen-fueled? Why aren't they connected to 15,000-ton trains doing real work? Converting an engine to run on Hydrogen cuts its power output in half if all else remains unchanged. Do they need twice as many locomotives to do the same work? Where are they getting the Hydrogen? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm not impressed yet. Green paint jobs don't mean the technology is "green".

    1. The green ones (1200, 1001, 1002) 2. Engines are in the test phase, afaik they're the first to be tested for long-haul freight. Previous attempts was with light passenger rail 3. Initially hydrogen engines will probably serve as DPUs with one or more diesels to reduce the overall emissions until the H20ELs are ready for prime time 4. CP has a hydrogen production facility in Calgary which is powered by a 5MW solar farm 5. lol yeah just paint the diesels green, good to go! I'm impressed. This is a good step forward. CP using solar to power the hydrogen plant is a bonus as well.
