Chasing Africa's Last 737-200
Welcome to part 3 of the Africa Adventure series in which Gabriel Leigh finds himself in Harare, Zimbabwe having to work a little harder than expected to track down Air Zimbabwe’s 737-200, one of the last passenger -200s in the world. Though he has a flight on it booked to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, the President of Zimbabwe has other plans, and it’s a down-to-the-wire scramble to try and catch the plane. Will Gabriel succeed? Or will he end up on the ERJ-145 to Victoria Falls like so many before him? Watch to find out.

I'm honestly impressed by how beautiful that part of Africa was, many people just describe africa as poor, starving, desserted, etc. even if that's only some parts of Africa

Would be the same to describe North Amerika as poor, starving and deserted just by visiting Death Valley.

your positive comments are appreciated. There are so many other plane-heads that flooded us from the beginning to end with complains about every little thing.
Just returned from a trip t 🇿🇼 and SA, and the moment I left it, I missed it so much.😢❤️❤️❤️ Absolutely beautiful land, people and a trip of a lifetime, so I had to see ur video as we did not do inly Vic Falls and Dete, nor did we fly in Air 🇿🇼. Love the ERJ, which for a narrow body acft is quite comfy and svc onboard is quite nice; not one single delay in all 11 flight segments of our trip. Fully recommend Zimb and SA but I can't wait to get back to Africa ❤

Good thing they're about to start a refurbishment of the 1950s era terminal used for domestic flights. I remember in the 90s when it was still used for international flights and 747s from BA, Qantas, Lufthansa and Air France were regular visitors.
Zimbabwe is beautiful with great people great holiday resorts and safe
Kenyan here, what a beautiful country. The airport authority though, a coat of paint is long ovedue!
Hands down the best trip report i have seen in years well done 🙏🏻
Vic Falls is one of the most stupendous bits of a beautiful country. It's going to be great if you find the still flying 737-200. It may well be one of the planes I flew in out of Vic Falls (as well as 707's and vicounts) when I worked in Zim in the mid 80's. Happy times
I f!ew from Harare to Victoria Falls as a child in the late 60s. It was Air Rhodesia then and a Viscount 😊 Terrific video! Thanks.

Wow! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I suppose I’m fortunate to have flown in an original Frontier Airlines 200 in 1979 (as a 14 year old), CP Air in ‘88 and Air New Zealand hush-kitted 200s in the 90s. I particularly remember the Frontier Airlines flights from YVR to GEG and back. Going there was the newer red & orange livery but coming back was the original 1969 paint job which was very retro looking even in ‘79. Kudos to you for keeping your spirits up in spite of the setbacks.
WOW what a beautiful/insightful trip report… Beautiful part of Africa !!! Enjoy!! Hoping to see that 737-200 trip report soon!!! Love that aircraft and didn’t realise they were the last (one of the last??) operators of that aircraft.

As I watched your video I couldn't work out why I didn't recognise Victoria Falls as I could swear I had flown in/out of there. So looked up my records and it was actually Livingstone on the other side of the Victoria Falls -- on the Zambian side, that I had flown into in May 1993 in a Convair CV-580 of Regional Air from JNB and sat in the jumpseat too for descent/landing. Just 4 months earlier I had visited Harare too flying in/out on SAA A320s from/to JNB.

Do none of the 145's in U.S. not have air stairs built in when ordered? I've noticed how all the Ryanair 737's have air stairs built in, and use the back exit with a passenger Stair Truck. Much quicker to empty. I love how they use front and rear external air stairs at Burbank Airport for the 737's; get to see the aircraft up close!

I also like the back row. Yes, US airlines could learn a thing or two also in relation to food and beverage service. A 1 hour flt in the States will barely get you a 3 ounce water bottle and some stale pretzels. The RJ 145 really moves on down the road on takeoff! Great scenery.

Several venezuelan airlines used to have a lot of 732s, Avior, Estelar, Venezolana, Conviasa and Rutaca had them, I believe most of those got scrapped or sold like the DC9s some other airlines here used to own Probably the last one here is the old presidential plane, the so-called "Camastrón" that got replaced by a A319CJ, that 732 went under Conviasa's fleet
I've had the privilege of flying 737-200's many times with both SAA and Air Zimbabwe. That was back in the 1990's.

Looks greaet, nice flight. I have been on board a 737 100 or 200, I am not sure. It was back in 1984. Just a short flight It was a Sabena, the former national carrier of Belgium. We flew from Antwerps to Brussels, only a 15 minutes flight. I have an official certificate as it was a flight babtism, and part of one of the daytrips of our national railways in the Netherlands. I made slides of our flight, so I could find out if it was a -100 or -200. I guess a -200. Just saw on google earth that Victoria fall airport has a 4 km long runway and Harare airport even an almost 5 km long runway. Maybe because of higher elevation and high temperatures most of the time... Hope you catch that 737-200 soon, and we would like to see the video of course!
