When the store rejects your Amex card, pull out your CSR 😉. That’s the whole point of having a visa infinite card.

Just passed the one year mark on my CSP and upgraded to the CSR. Be aware when moving credit limits between cards, it can temporarily drop your credit score because it looks like the card issuer decreased your limit. Especially if the card with the new higher limit takes a while to register on your report.

You and shifu have taught me a lot tx. I can’t wait to fly business

*GREAT VIDEO!* I just got my CSP and am working on getting my 60K bonus at the moment. I’m new to the CC points game as I’ve mostly been focused building a strong financial foundation (budgeting, saving money, etc.) which is the focus of my channel. At this time, I don’t see a reason to get the CSR because I don’t think I’ll get enough benefit considering the $450 annual fee. Very informative video Sebby! 😎😎👍🏻

Great, helpful info! I'll be starting out with the CSP that currently has the great SUB. I have a good foundation in the Amex ecosystem, but having a solid Visa card will cover places that do not accept Amex (e.g. Costco, some International vendors). Keeping track of credit limits is crucial. I've put cards to sleep like the United to the no AF option. Upgraded Marriott to Ritz. Downgraded CSR to FU.

I got the CSP my last year of college, made the min spend (fronting club expenses / friend dinners and then getting reimbursed) and got that 60k bonus. I'm planning on upgrading to the CSR when I hit the 1 year mark because my PEV is higher for the CSR for year 2+. Thanks Sebby for your CSP vs CSR calculator, and for other insight videos like this! @@david7anto you can only hold one Sapphire card at a time, but it's a 48-month rule for earning the intro bonus. Before my 48-months are up, I believe I could downgrade to a Chase Freedom or FU and then sign-up for the CSR again once I'm out of the 48-month lock.

I think getting CSP now is a good idea at first to hit the minimum and get advantage of first year fee waiver, then before travel upgrade to CSR before this year ends to get 300+300$... Store whatever points you get for hitting min spend, then product change to CSR, then transfer points to airline partners to get most value?? what you think?

I know you said that getting credit limit moved has been fine for you. How has PCing frequently worked? I know you say you move between CSR to lower annual fee card as you feel necessary (such as when the Prestige was competitive). Has that also had no deleterious affect?

No, only one sapphire bonus is possible in a 48 month period

Im struggling to find my CSP usefully now that i have had the amex gold for about 9 months. I am only keeping the CSP for the UR points and booking my flights with my points that i have and getting the benefits on trip delay and what not.

Actually the 10k can be spread across all your accounts I got approved for CSR and my largest CL on 1 card is 7k

Quick question so I just went through the process to upgrade my CSP 2 days ago and I had to move around my limit from the freedom and unlimited to hit the 10k. (What a coincidence lol) I’ve had my CSP for about a year and called so see if I upgraded would I get the bonus. The rep said no but I couldn’t get the bonus it’s just for new accounts I upgraded anyways because I’ve been spending a lot and than after wondered if I would have applied for the CSR directly and downgraded my CSP to the slate would I be allowed to get the bonus?

If 48 months had passed from first getting the CSP bonus, you would get the CSR bonus

I’ve had the CSP for over a year. I haven’t spent my points yet. But I’d like to upgrade to the CSR. I know that I can upgrade and transfer my points, but am I forgoing the CSR point bonus doing that? How can I upgrade to the CSR and get the point bonus?

Your APR should reflect a small decrease with the change on any card that uses a "variable APR rate". This means that if it goes up, your APR will go up and vice versa.

Can we upgrade our current credit cards to a new one without opening a new account?

Any advice for those who have the CSP, didn't reach minimum spend in time to get the 60k bonus, but would like to get the CSR?

Good video. Question: If I want to drop credit limits on two of my Chase cards (as I want to apply for a new card), is it better to secure message or call direct? I don't think Chase will give me more credit.

Juan Campos I would just apply for the card and if denied call the rep and ask then why you got denied blah blah blah and ask “can I please move over existing limit from my other cards to open this new account, I really love the benefits blah blah blah”. Because if u remove credit and apply and get denied that credit is gone and not coming back

I reduced a limit on one card before applying for my next card. Got the second card with no issues and regretted asking for the reduced limit before applying. Keeping the previous limit would have given me a better credit utilization for my credit score

You should. The Preferred and Reserve only add point multipliers and protections to the base Sapphire benefits.

If I got the preferred last year, do I need to wait 2 years to be re-eligable for the sign up bonus?

I’m above 5/24 and have never had a Sapphire account. However, I’m an authorized user on my spouse’s CSP and want to upgrade my CFU to CSR. For various reasons I won’t be able to have my spouse remove me as an authorized user. Since I’ve never had a Sapphire bonus, I’m planning to product change to CSR soon and then almost two years later product change back to CFU and then apply for the CSR to get the bonus.

Immediate a like to the video when hearing the Pokemon reference, suits perfectly.

My wife and I both got the preferred due to a split purchase that allowed us to each hit the 60k bonus. I'll eventually switch to a reserve but she has no plans to use the card and I'll want her to downgrade. Should she use her card for the remainder of the year getting 1% (she makes minimal purchases) so that chase doesn't think she just got it for the bonus? (which we actually did)

YES if your wife wants more cards from chase and have only recently hit that min spend (your wife probably won't want to be bad side of chase), NO if your wife doesn't care about chase cards or if it has already been close to a year and it's almost time for annual fee fun time. OR just have her apply for a freedom unlimited for 1.5% if you want the extra points, then product change her CSP to a regular freedom once she hits the 1 year mark.

say you downgrade a capital one card. You can get rewards every 6 months would you downgrade or cancel then 6 months later apply for the same card again? Or should you not do this?

Since we have to wait one full year before eligibility, how does paying the AF work when upgrading from CSP to CSR? i.e. do I have to the $95 (CSP) + the $450 (CSR) or just the $450?

They refund you the old annual fee and charge you the new one.

Lakmal Antony yep , I can agree they really suck, iv had them for 5 years . They have been helpful to build my credit. But I honestly hit a dead end with them and it’s really sad how a big company like that can’t seem to help there own customers.

If you don't have other Amex cards, Platinum first is generally more optimal from a math perspective: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6Z9xKSGmrueiqQ.html

I have the CSR right now 2019, so in 2023 I can get the bonus again to re-apply. Would I then need to down grade to CSP in year before my 4th year ends. Then they will let me Upgrade back to CSR to get a sign in bonus or they will just give me the availability to gain the bonus by spending $X amount? Thanks!

You would have to downgrade to a non-Sapphire product (although not sure if that includes the regular non-Preferred Sapphire) like Freedom or FU if you want to stay within the UR arena or to a Slate if you won't care for that card. You can't have a Preferred and a Reserve at the same time. It's a "one or the other" deal.

Is there a point to upgrading to a Chase Sapphire Preferred? I have the original Chase Sapphire, lots of the perks but no annual fee.

If I am not mistaken, you cannot apply for that card, you have to downgrade from any sapphire card. The chase sapphire has no annual fee and hardly any perks.

Can i transfer my credit limit from my csp to my freedom unlimited. Then upgrade my csp to the CSR and get a overall bigger credit limit

a) Yes. b) Your credit limit has to be at least $10k to do the upgrade. c) Requesting a larger credit limit has nothing to do with the upgrade / moving limits around.

What does the 10k credit limit have to do with upgrading? Could you explain

Your credit profile has to be able to qualify you for a 10K limit card. Usually if you have other cards in the 5-10K limit, you should be fine.

Greetings, I’m planning apply for the CSR around March. I fly to visit my girlfriend once a year (about $400-$500 round trip). Does the $300 travel credit mean $500 dollar round trip ticket - $300? Or I won’t get the travel credit because it’s more than $300? Anyone please. Thanks.

Yes, it's issued as a $300 statement credit. CSR travel credit is the most flexible to use.

I was leaning towards the CSR so I can use the $300 credit towards the $500 round trip but wasn’t sure if I can do that since it’s more than $300. Thank you for confirming. @@scarlettjung4531 I'd grab the CSR first anyways. Worst case, you have an "out" in Year 2 (downgrade path). I LOVE the Platinum card but the lack of downgrade paths can be problematic if live happens.

Can someone let me know their experience with trying to get both sapphire bonuses? My plan was to open to the preferred, have it for a year, close it, bonus hunt else where for the 24 months (time required by chase to qualify for a bonus again & while staying aware of 5/24 obvi), then get the reserve. Thoughts?

If you ever hold a Sapphire card without having received the welcome bonus, you can always get the bonus in the future. You just need to downgrade your current Sapphire, wait for the downgrade to register in your account, and then apply for a new Sapphire. In my case, I am well over 5/24, and I know I can get high positive value by upgrading to the Sapphire Reserve now. So that's what I'll do. Then in 1-1/2 years I'll be ready to downgrade and apply to earn a nice welcome bonus.

I just canceled my CSR before the $450 annual fee kicked in. There wasn’t a downgrade path from it to a no annual fee card. I’m planing to get the US Bank altitude reserve card next.

Even if the fee hits, it's refunded if you cancel/downgrade within 30 days. You can generally downgrade to Freedom, CFU, Slate, CS, CSP: www.asksebby.com/blog/chase-product-change-rules-2018

Doesn't the 2.5% fee pretty much negate any benefits you get from using the credit card? Pay tuition using credit card just to get measly 50000 points? This is some God awful tips you're handing out to students.
