    I think the reason Charter Oak doesn’t get the love it once got is because mostly everyone is trying to flock to the CBE model. I’ve said it a thousand times, but it’s hard to go back to school while working and having a family. That’s where a lot of adult learners find themselves, so it would stand to reason why CBE programs like WGU and UMPI would stand above the fray.

    I'd be interested in cbe. This year I needed to get some extra lit courses so I went to Open University. It was good, and affordable but it's a full year and has a massive workload. I'm waiting for final grades but I expect a B. The perfectionist in me wanted an A, but I'm older and have a job and family. It's okay to admit you don't have the bandwidth to devote to school. CBE might let me eventually get some more courses completed.

    The limted ability to do upper level credit via 3rd party and limited Sophia makes it harder for many, but they are so CLEP and DSST friendly, which really makes up for it. Good to learn that they accept TECEPs, which is a great way to earn some of those upper level credit. Solid review as always.

    I graduated in 2016. They took 101 credits from the early 1980s. At the time I went I went on the go back to get ahead program take one course and get one free. It was for CT residents only and I don’t know if it is still available. My only complaint was that they did take my English Lit and American Lit class but did not count them towards the English Comp requirement even though the classes required 20 pages of writing. I would recommend to anyone looking to finish their degree.

    Thank you so much for your informative videos! I truly appreciate this. You really are a life saver for adults who are looking back to go back to school but work and have kids. Do you know if the exams are proctored at SNHU, LUO or Charter Oaks? From your videos I found those 3 best suited for me. My strong point is writing papers or doing quizzes more than taking proctored tests which give me testing anxiety with someone watching and the kids are very loud. I always have my kids running around in the back so I figured WGU and Excelsior University would not be a good fit due to hearing about their strict proctoring.

  • @CollegeHacked

    @CollegeHacked

    They are not proctored at those three! 😄 LUO is usually more hackable than SNHU, but it depends on the major. You’re wise for factoring in your environment, it would be a huge drag trying to create the calm environment they’d want at WGU, great as they are.

    Are there any weird rules about combining 4 year degree credits, and non-traditional/ 2 year degree credits? If I went to straighter-line or Sophia, or something similar, I would want to know I am not wasting my time. I have 15 credits hrs. from a 4yr school, so in theory if I can get 90 elsewhere, all I'll have to finish is 2 courses.

  • @CollegeHacked

    @CollegeHacked

    A regionally accredited bachelors degree (the only kind worth earning) will generally only let you transfer in 90 credits out of 120, and will required the other 30 hours be taken through their institution! But you can earn 90 Sophia/Straighterline courses and transfer them into certain schools, yes :)

    @@Ricky24315 Whether you need the full degree is typically dependent on your experience in the field. If you're someone who has years of experience already and is just looking to put a piece of paper behind what you can already do, then the liberal studies is an excellent option. If you're trying to learn a new field with the degree, then you'll typically want the full MIS major. :)

I’m going to bet that someone that already has 114 credits under their belt is far more likely to go ahead and graduate than someone with 15-30 credits. Also, what is the age of the student and what is the percentage that are either military or formally military, which is to say people who are having college cost reimbursed by the government?

    Charter Oak misrepresents itself when it comes to "Portfolio learning" It's a 3-credit class you take, and you write about your previous life experience learning. I recently spoke with an academic advisor, and that is what he told me. Basically, the entire 114 credits to transfer in is a theoretical possibility, but they have counter measures to make sure it doesn't.

  • @CollegeHacked

    That last sentence seems a bit harsh, I doubt they are actively preventing it. More likely it’s just an arduous process most people rightfully don’t want to go through. Portfolio submissions are definitely hit or miss, but that’s a big reason to just do a competency based program instead. No portfolio submission needed, if you know the info you just pass the class quickly and move on :)
