    This is one of my favorite sort of standalone episodes of Charmed, right next to Sense and Sense Ability in S5. It doesn't play a huge role in the overarching narrative of the storyline, but it's thoroughly entertaining and well-written.

    This episode really lets me know how much Prue's destiny was already laid out before her. Even without the BTS drama, Prue, naturally, would have died in Charmed. Probably sacrificing herself for her sisters. I definitely would be infected with either wrath or gluttony. 😅

    I think it’s fascinating to see this episode and how it foreshadows the consistent issues that Phoebe and Piper go through for the rest of the series. Piper always becomes excessive throughout the series whether she’s the Fury, the Valkyrie, or the Hindu God. It’s the same thing for Phoebe regarding wanting to maximize pleasure and minimize pain (Cole, saving her perpetually dying lover, wanting a daughter). Both of their sins were reasons to align with Avatars, and why they chose to fake their deaths. Lastly, it shows that Prue’s presence in the power of three would stifle the other two due to her pride. I definitely think Paige would be greed based on her past life, her voracious consumption of learning the craft, and her abrupt heel turns from magic to wanting a normal life. Also, her dream man spell episode reinforces that idea, as well as the constant need to accrue the same deference and admiration Prue possessed in Piper’s & Phoebe’s minds.

    See I feel Paige would be Envy, The Sorceress captured the prince because she envious of the love and wanted it herself. Paige was envious of Prue being super witch. At least that's my opinion lol

  • @salishUnibrow

    @salishUnibrow

    10 ай бұрын

    @@erivida64 I thought that too, but greed refers to an excessive desire for power, wealth and food. Envy, on the other hand, refers to the desire to be in another person's situation terms of wealth, power, success, etc. Paige’s did not solely want Prue’s position and deference in the family, she also wanted her own independence and freedom from it. She also wanted witch life, whitelighter occupation, and a normal life rolled up in one. Past Life Paige did not solely want that man, but wanted him to impregnate her and rule the kingdom as a powerful sorceress. Our Paige wanted it all, baby. And I believe she’s achieved it and was the most successful happy end out of the sisters, imo. She’s a true “yes and” girlie! ❤

    Paige is definitely envy, she was jealous and felt inferior to Prue and her achievements. Paige was jealous of Glenn & his soon to be wife, she devouted herself to learning as much as she could in order to suppress her insecurities and feelings of lacking when it came to magic.

    Shannen Doherty played Prideful Prue in this episode phenomenally. Prue not only took charge entirely this episode but also basically narrated the plot along to (us) audience scene by scene in a cool way. The dark scene where the cop attacked the sisters and Prue was the only one left standing(before Lucas kidnapped her) gave Season 1 vibes and was well-directed. I love how the episode gradually focused on the man versus self conflict rather than man versus man or in this case man versus Lucas. The exposition at the end in Prue and Piper’s conversation about what happened was amazing and almost scary with the fact that you can never truly get rid of Pride even with a selfless act. Honorable mention: Pheobe was hilarious in this episode.

Even writing a play about vampires each infected by one back in high school. Phoebe is seen as the slutty sister because of a few reasons 1. Alyssa Milano is naturally a very sexy looking woman 2. Phoebe is often dressed in the more skimpy and revealing clothing 3. Cupid in season 2 mentioned she had many past "loves" which adds to her list on the show 4. Phoebe's early portrayal is that of a carefree person and carefree personalities are often subject to be considered slutty

Also reminds me of the pandora’s box episode and the king arthur one or the disney princesses reference episode. As Charmed fans, we enjoy them seeing how these ideas would turn out in the Charmed world. I think they would always have that line where “Oh, that’s real?” and another sister would respond with “And you’re still surprised after doing this for how many years?” I just ❤ Charmed. Thanks for the anatomy of the episode. Please do the Pandora’s box too. That episode was so fun and inspiring to watch.

    I don't think they were supposed to exhibit the opposing virtue exactly, but just do something out of selflessness as they explained on the show itself. Also, Phoebe's premonitions did screw up technically! They certainly didn't warn her of the possible danger that was just about to come to their front door.

    I’ve always loved season one and found it so relatable. Now I can PERSONALLY relate to “Wicca Envy” since the day I signed out for the day at work and a minute later was on the phone w the boss defending myself while he accused me of stealing. I’d used the clock on the wall ( I was always leaving my phone somewhere) to look at the time when I signed out. No one had set the clock back for daylight savings so it looked like I gave myself an extra hour I even had my own “Hannah and Rex” work bitches that were out to destroy me just like Prue and were checking my time sheet when I left so they could call and report me. If only I had Piper’s power to freeze

    I think what's good about this episode is that it holds Prue accountable and calls her out on her Mary Sue qualities (like Woogy Phoebe called her out when she saved Piper from the gas man and how Wendigo Piper called her a know it all). If only we had characters being called out in later seasons. Sure, Phoebe gets held accountable when she loses her powers, but after that it's all coworkers praising her beauties and talents. I mean even Prue had a tough time at work with Claire and other people.

    I didn't realize how true to the basic concepts of the sins this episode got. Impressive that they put in this amount of effort to get things right. I'm currently rewatching season 3 (rewatching all of "Charmed" because of coming across your videos, btw), though I'm not at this episode yet (I think it's the next one up). I also got the feeling season 2 was weaker than 1 or 3 so far, which is not something I'd remembered but which I know you made a video about. Though I do think one thing that helps season 3 that I haven't heard you mention, and that you may or may not agree with, is that it feels more... integrated to me than season 2. For example I think Cole's story really helps it fit together. Obviously in the first episode Cole is introduced and many of the episodes after it have him finding different ways to come after the sisters. "Sleuthing with the Enemy" is basically a direct sequel episode to "Power Outage." Many of the episodes directly after that involve Phoebe coming to terms with letting Cole go. And then "The Good, The Bad, and the Cursed" shows Cole's entrance back into the fold, while "Death Takes a Halliwell" finally has Cole in the role of "the innocent." "Charmed" obviously was never a heavily serialized show like "Breaking Bad" was. And it doesn't need to be. But I think having some tissue that really ties the episodes together, even if in some episodes it's in the background, really works for it.

    I love this episode as it explored their personalities and what and why the sins affected them, also these stories also go back to what we've learned about Grams and other women in their family. Grams was very prideful and reckless with her mouth and her trail of bad relationships with men (some were demon or super natural being), I wish that Shannon had stayed and the show kept the course it was on because I would have like to have seen an episode where Leo who is their whitelighter had no choice but to send them to a magical therapist and shown clips of past episodes and helped them grow as individuals and made them see some their flaws to work on but sadly as the show went on the writers and Brad kern were taking them in many different directions that changed them from who we were growing to know and love and even Paige who started strong was becoming a mess. Can you please do a video about how Brad Kern got control of Constance M. Burge’s creation? Because I have looked into this & I can’t find the answers, like: why wasn’t she showrunner of her creation from season 1? why did she leave entirely after season 4? & everything in between. Constance seems like such a mystery, too, I would love to know more about her in general. Thank you!

    Another hilariously cute moment is at the end, when they're at P3 and Phoebe says something about how she's all "sexed out" or something and would rather talk about pretty much anything else, so she uses the band playing as a way to switch topics. Phoebe asks what the band's name is, to which one of her sisters - I don't remember which (Piper?) - responds, of course, with... "Orgy.", and her sisters obviously can't help but to be amused. It makes it 10x better once you realize this is a real life musical group (as P3 always hosted iirc), and that, yes, their stage name irl is literally Orgy. ...Also, I must admit, I've always loved this episode as well, but its also gotten me thinking about which sin (& thus corresponding virtue!) I'd be prone to getting "infected" with...? It's honestly a toss-up between Lust and Envy for me, I think 😶‍🌫

    Wow watching season three of the episode Sin Francisco I never knew this episode it was about sins in season three I have heard of the seven deadly sins but I never knew in charge and there was some religious elements and it got me thinking I remember the dark light was in the series in charge and now I’m starting to notice the white lighters they are considered angels but the dark lighters they remind me of the fallen Angel’s we all have seen that we are not aware that we are doing something that we are not aware when people commit sins they don’t realise those were not religious Would you do a video about dark lighters because something tells me They’re kind of like the fallen angels who were rejected by the elders just like God rejected Satan including other angels before Satan

    "staple of Christan Teaching ... an accepted part of the faith" - sounds like you forget that Catholisism is only ONE branch of Christianity, the rest of us don't believe this. Just look at how Jesus attacks those selling things in the temple, for example - if anger/wrath is a sin, then we have a really sinful savior 😉 I like these videos, though! Before ouat came, Charmed was my favorite TV show 🥰
