I remember thinking of Mariah Carey in the early 1990s as untouchable, that her responses were slick and to the point. She had this aura around her of impressiveness but untouchability. Knowing what we know now, it was Sony that forced this. There is this radio interview from mid 1990 (on KZread) where she actually is pretty candid and joking around, but it seems like that had to be expunged from her personality. It’s sad.

For a young 30 year old (back in 1999 )who grew up in complete disfunction, surrounded by violence and trauma, she did a great job expressing herself while talking to a much older, seasoned interviewer. I’m sure now at 55 years old, she has gotten used to this type of thing ( maybe) ❤
