1 of the best talks I've heard in 40 years. I only wish I had got to meet him in person. Such a gift for humbly breaking it down.

My sobriety date is 1/17/85, the differents between an old timer, and a newcomer is; the newcomer wants to drink, and knows they can't. An old timer knows they can drink, and doesn't want too.

Charlie P. thank you so much for this speech. You said so many things that hit home with me. It made me feel like maybe I'm not such a hopeless case after all. I'm going to finally go to a meeting tomorrow after 30 years of drinking. I am looking forward to meeting people that understand the way I feel. I hope you know how much you help people like me by speaking about alcoholism.

Excellent share by Charlie P. A wonderful thing that he, in this eight (8) year old recording, focused on *this* alcoholic's true problem. Working the twelve (12) steps of AA and my Higher Power saved my life. Thank you.

I’m alcoholic. I have relapsed many times this year after trials of trying to be sober . I realized I am dry drunk. Truthfully, I didn’t understand why I needed AA. Why I needed someone else to tell me these steps and help me to do them. It been years now but I am still struggling to accept step one. I’m have admitted that I’m powerless of alcohol. I don’t go to many meetings but I’m praying to keep trying to recover. Alcoholics Anonymous is only effective when done whole heartily. Sadly I’m still coming to terms that I will always be and recovering alcoholic and that is apart of me that will never change . For anyone out there that feel alone sad and helpless your not alone . God bless

I attended 12 step programs for many years and I always relapsed. I got a dui in a national park and served 28 days in a federal prison.... there I met a theologian who literally took me through the Bible and now, I am almost 2 years sober by taking only one step, I got on my knees and begged for help. Jesus Christ is in the business of annihilating demons. We have a very real enemy.... and I never knew that!

Hello Ruth, you must understand that drinking is just the solution to your problem, your problem is internal. I say this because it took me 14 years of sobriety doing it on my own that just about drove me insane. It wasn’t till i got spiritually connected in the program where the voices in my head started to calm. I pray you surrender and get connected, if you truly want it, its there Ruth. I pray you come to this understanding, you can do this. ❤😊

I just hit my first year of sobriety. With my meeting still on zoom only these tapes help along with my almost daily phone calls to my sponsor.

Charlie, thank you so much for this talk. It took probably six months of going back and replaying your story about your dad and the pawn shop - I had the minutes on a stickie. Anyway.. your honesty really helped me get real with myself.

I'm Joe S. and I am an alcoholic, I was listening to Charlie P. doing his A.A. talk and he was talking about Dr. Bob and how he was saying that after that meeting the night that Dr. Bob met Bill W. that he didn't drink again that he stayed sober till his death. Well actually after that first meet between Dr. Bob and Bill they met up a few more times, after that and Dr. Bobs sobriety only lasted for three weeks. Then Dr. Bob went to Atlantic City to go to several days of meetings for a national society that he was a member of. While on that train ride Dr. Bob had drank all the bottles of scotch that was on the train, then he bought several quarts on his way to his hotel were he got drunk that night but he did manage to stay sober that Monday until after the dinner and went to his room to finish getting drunk. Then to save himself from any disgrace he checked himself out of his room, on his way walking to the depot he had bought more liquor as he waited for his train. He then remembered nothing from then until he woke up at a friends house in Cuyahoga Falls and then his friends called his wife and after that Anna had called Bill W. and then Bill picked up Dr. Bob and took him home. Then Bill gave Dr. Bob a few drinks that night and one bottle of beer that next morning, that was June 10th, 1935 after that he never picked up again.

Jeez, seriously… obviously you miss you understood what CP was saying. CP was talking about June 10, 1935. Oh and you forgot to mention Dr Bob also had a couple goofballs that morning

Great question! We all have selfish traits within us. Some are necessary, some over the top. Some downright deadly. . . Addicted Narcs rarely ever change ... it's amazing how much they can fake to get their needs met and to feel validated. AA is a huge challenge for them and for their sponsors. Easier softer ways are what the addicted Narcs want. And so for their victims the beat goes on. Till death do us part.

I'm fighting this restless, irritable, discontent 3 years after quitting. It's rough.

Read page 30 and 85, 3-5 times a day for a week straight. Hopefully that'll help you seek your Higher Power and connect again.

He did a really good speech gave good examples I experienced some the same things he brought up But I'm not a Dallas Cowboys fan ha ha .

+John Walters you didnt listen the first 17 years he was sober from only going to meetings. middle of the road solution he was miserable until he found a big book thumper for a sponsor and when threw the big book of AA then he recovered from Alcoholism. Listen to him Katie P and Chris R and he gose more into he he was miserable

John Walters In reality, most people don't need to hear another "war story". We've got our own and have heard countless others. Fact is, you cannot scare we alcoholics into getting sober. Fear won't motivate us to complete (not just start) the steps and therefore, have a spiritual experience. I've been in middle of the road AA...damn near killed me. I am a shining example of the person who tried to stay sober on self knowledge alone. It didn't work. What I needed was to know the problem, find the solution, and a tangible plan of action. I wish you ALL the best, my brother. Because for us to drink is to die (PG 66)!😊

+KIM JOHNSON it makes a lot of sense when he's saying if you just sit and listen to it he's telling you about the powerless of this program how we say we don't want to take one but we end up taking it anyway and how without God is too much rust he had a very good message and I hope that you got a lot out of it thank you
