Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you're investing into can't make good use of that capital. So, if you're trying to invest in businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they're returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It's not much different from bond investing. The way I see it, if you have a $1 million at some point, that'd be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k - 70k in dividend income.

Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are alot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.

Joined the Air Force as a meteorological officer during WW2, he didn’t see any combat (less than 5% of all enlisted servicemen did) The man lived an extraordinary life, and yes he may have not plowed the fields, but no one can throw his work ethic, self discipline, self awareness, and accomplishments into doubt. If you die at 99 with all your marbles intact, your children and grandchildren around you, with assets that would support them for the rest of their lives, you’ve won.

Munger and Buffett have both achieved an incredible feat with Berkshire. They've turned thousands to billions, and have made a lot of people wealthy in the process. I really saw the potential of the stock market by reading Berkshire's annual letters. I recently sold my $674k apartment in the Bel Air area and I'm hoping to throw it into the stock market. I just don't want to lose everything.

Most people either do not understand the power of compound interest, or are just impatient. For the average Joe, however, I think it is just best to invest in the S&P 500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-- lots of years. Or just use a professional analyst and speed up wealth creation. Most people underestimate the power of the latter.

I personally work with “Vivian Carol Gioia” she covers things like investing, insurance, making sure retirement is well funded, going over tax benefits, ways to have a volatility buffer for investment risk. many things like that. They said he died in the hospital but they didn’t say of what. Can’t make assumptions, though when I spoke about this with someone who I know who is a doctor, he said that based on how it was described in the release it could have been a stroke. Not sure if this is the book mentioned but a revised/updated version of Poor Charlie’s Almanack: The Essential Wit and Wisdom of Charles T. Munger is set to release in Kindle format in December 2023. The presale price is currently $9.99. They physical book weight is around 4 or 5 pounds so the digital version will be great for me to reread this fascinating compilation authorized by Charlie himself.

what a quick-witted and multidisciplinary mind! first learned about munger while reading the snowball, then went down the rabbit hole of reading countless articles about him from his witty one-liners to his recommended books ... what a life and legacy, well done, charlie munger, rip now!

His intellect and wry sense of humor player perfectly with Warren Buffett. The ideal partnership, which resonates in every annual shareholder letter and meeting. The love and appreciation for Charlie Munger is next level. He's a great example of wisdom and humor, and the importance of humor when dealing with complicated subjects.

I discovered Charlie relatively recently. His views and life advice is so simple yet so profound and correct. We are very lucky this man lived when he could have been recorded. Many, including myself, will use and profit from his wisdom long after he is gone. Rest in peace, Charlie.

This is my first time seeing this interview, and hindsight is 20/20, but I've been around a lot of elderly people and people on hospice, etc. Despite his age you could tell he had one foot out the door and didn't expect to see his next birthday. You could also tell he was at peace with himself. R.I.P. to one of the greatest investors and wisest men. Asking Charlie Munger to join him was Warren Buffett's greatest investment.

@@500milliondollars inversion is a mathematical transformation you can perform on an object or scenario(other transformations include eg. rotation, enlargement, translation, transposition etc) In music, you have, say, a major chord (which is the most harmonically stable sound to the ear) and which consists of the notes C,E,G. Inverting this chord simply means rearranging the notes into the other possible forms like C,G,E or E,G,C. Why? Well, this give you much more unique sounds without changing the mathematical properties of the chord itself. What's more important is it opens up the possibility to transition into other chords that share some of those notes creating a smooth harmonic progression in music. In business, the way Charlie put is that the best way for person A to sell a product to person B, is for person A to first invert and become person B, or put themselves in person B's shoes, if you will. Then ask themselves if they would buy what they are selling? It's the golden rule expressed mathematically: Do unto others as you would have the others do unto you. Lack of inversion is the reason we now increasingly have poor quality software full of bloatware, self promotion, concealment of terms and disregard for customer's preferred settings - the kind of behavior you now see with Adobe's "cloud" which intentionally made difficult to uninstall and use offline, or Google chrome's hidden self-upgrades and Microsoft's windows virus-like background updates. It is simply because the manufacturers themselves would never use the very features they are pushing. Same for hardware: Apple's forcing of users to buy unique chargers, Samsung's internal android battery, HP's brittle plastic laptop housings designed to fail(planned obsolescence), Nokia's androids being no longer rootable - all serve to further restrict consumer freedom and right to repair. The psychopaths who work for these companies would never use the very garbage they're selling. They lack empathy, they lack inversion. Hope that explains it.

@@888strummer Yes, he suffered greatly early on with a divorce and his son dying of cancer. It nearly destroyed him but he pushed ahead, remarried and had 8 kids total. He loved them enough not to destroy them with money. He was a true simple family man. It's a testament to his greatness. From afar, even I look to him as a father. How can anyone not love this man? It was easy to see how she grew to love him. He's at rest but his family and close loved ones like Becky must now endure the pain of the loss. I'll really miss the annual meetings with Charlie eating his ice creams bars. Yes, he was a good man.

We learned a lot from Charlie. It's sad when one of your mentors dies. Charlie will be remembered for his wit and wisdom. A rational machine. A truly extraordinary life.

The great equalizer, growing old! Seems crazy to hear him say how much more energetic he was at 96! Charlie was just 4 years older then my father & still lived 20 years longer. It pains me to see us losing the real great people of his generation. The amount he accomplished in his life and how he carried himself is a testament to the greats of his time. Their seems to be so few up and coming examples going forward. Losing these guys and their life’s experiences are always a great loss in lessons in life. I still think of all the knowledge my father tried to pass to his know it all son and how right he really was!

What a life and what a career…..it’s going to be fascinating to see whether his description of Bitcoin as “rat poison” proves accurate or one of his rare errors….

Always enjoyed Becky's interviews with Warren and Charlie.

That's one of the biggest regrets to me to not having a chance to attend the annual meetings of any such where Charlie was speaking. He has taught me so much through his books and speeches. He was the only reason I have learnt so much in so short period of time and then successfully launched my own fund. If a person can convey that much of wisdom even remotely then he's the real genius.

Loved Becky's reminiscence, and he was kind. I remember reading that Charlie Munger once read an article in a magazine that he appreciated and learned so much from, that he sent the journalist who wrote it a $20,000 check. His reasoning: journalists typically don't make much, and the ideas he gleaned from the article were very actionable. RIP Charlie...

I rarely comment on videos. The respect I have for Charlie Munger is such that reading all of the comments here, I feel a sense of belonging with all of you who feel the same way about him. Wish there were a way to keep in touch with you guys and exchange ideas on carrying his legacy forward in our own small ways.

Becky was so human and caring in this interview, I always liked her and this clip solidified it. I really get a sense that she will genuinely miss old grumpy Charlie.

Who would have thought he would rest not having lived his dream to catch a 200 lb tuna. Money can’t buy everything and it won’t pursue deep seated dreams - felt him there. Still giving lessons to us from the other side. RIP Charlie - legend for many.

What a legend. I watched so much of his interviews and speeches. He’s always get a mind sharp as ever. It gives me a sense this man would live forever (maybe he is in a sense or another).

You are probably not going to read this Becky but i just wanted to say i`m sorry for your loss as you were clearly a good friend of him and you have been for many years. We are all going to miss him so much

I'm middle aged, but I am realizing that old age is a way to mentally prepare you for death--- The aches and pains, and loss of energy and desire. They say, You only live once (Go for it!) I think it is better to say, You are only young once. Get out and do what you can while you are still vital and healthy. Get out and do something crazy and make some memories to think about when you are old.

Charlie Munger was working hard and contributing to society at 99 as have several people in my family.

Becky Quick is brilliant. Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger insist on her doing their interviews because they rank her so highly. They are correct. She is a fantastic journalist.

I invest with Mrs Michelle Stewart too, she charges a 20%commission on profit made after every trading session which is fair compare to the effort she put in to make huge profits.

With the consistent weekly profits I'm getting investing with Mrs Stewart, there's no doubt she is the most reliable in the market. such a genius

He was amazing in his wisdom, especially his advice on the importance of never indulging in envy, and in the importance of learning how to learn.

That tuna line hit home, no matter how much money no matter how important work is. “Make time for life before life says it’s time for you”.

Time stamp?

I’m a dividend investor, My wife and I have invested in the S&P500, both through my TSP with the government, and through fidelity in her 401-k. Cashed out 270k from the S&P and invested with a Financial adviser, Monica Mary Strigle. Until around 3 years ago we were 100% in the s&p after over 30 years. I’m retiring at the end of this month at 62, while my wife will retire next year at 60. We currently have 3.7 million in our tax deferred savings. I am putting this out there for anyone looking for how to help themselves in this time of crisis.
