It's hilariously relatable to a friend I used to have. He was very dumb yet would constantly make up facts that we're so specific that you couldn't call him out because you aren't highly educated in that field. So because you couldn't call him out he thinks we believe him and think he's really smart. That's what he thought anyways, we all just laughed at him for being dumb and extremely insecure about it behind his back

The great thing about the way he plays Charlie's stupidity, is that there is reasoning behind it. It's terrible, stupid reasoning, but the idea that Charlie actually tries to apply reason is great. He doesn't just state belief in something, he explains why. It makes no sense because the reasoning is stupid too, but the idea that he actually backs it up is hilarious. "We're two different people. We can't have the same left"(There are many better examples). It's why they get so frustrated arguing with him. He's wrong but they can't argue against his "logic".

When Charlie says something that sounds ridiculous, it's actually true for about a millionth of a second. He's actually never wrong, he has an intuitive understanding of the 4th dimensions and gets excited by these changes that occur for millionths of a second. However, after the flash of brilliance, it's gone, and he is left with the memory of an understanding, Eldritch horror.
