These comments are hilarious. Listen to the man before jumping the gun and immediately bashing his accent in the movie will you? He literally says that the the American audience couldn't understand him in the first draft of the movie so they had to make Charlie redo his dialogue in ADR (post production) to scale back the accent and make it more American sounding.

Not just Americans. I’m Canadian and a lot of time when watching shows with hardcore Scottish or Irish accents. I put on subtitles so I can understand what they are saying. Even with like hardcore southern accents or Cajun accents. Stuff is hard to understand.

He actually says he changed the accent or altered it because Americans couldn't understand his original interpretation of the Belfast accent. Honestly, we will never know how well he sounded because on screen we received something else.

Scottish and Irish accents are hard to understand especially if it’s thick. I just turn on subtitles. Reminds me a lot of like hardcore Cajun or southern accents in America. I’m Canadian and we have Newfies which is the closest thing we get to Irish accents. Bunch of slang that makes absolutely no sense.

No, his belfast accent is not horrible, he did a good job but encountered the same issues that many do, namely, dropping into a dublin accent at times and stressing the song or lilt in the wrong places. It was a brave decision and he did nail it at times. Good effort. I was more disappointed that he turned out to be a republican 😂😂😂. Says me, a Norn Oirishman. Like, y'kno, so it is?

Nailed it?? LOL LOL. It was a mix of Derry, Belfast and the West of Ireland. Not as bad as that guy in Sons of Anarchy, but to claim he nailed it... not even close.

@@JackFlicks I don't need to. I'm Irish, it was rubbish. It wasn't a watered down Belfast accent to help the audience understand. He knew that so had to 'justify' it by saying it was a space origin version. A space version thouands of years in the future that still sounds like a poor mix of Derry, Belfast and West of Ireland accents mixed together. LOL. Gimme a break.

That whole "the Americans couldn't understand it so I had to dial it down" is just an excuse for how bad it actually was. He can't speak one accent properly even in real life he doesn't know if he's British, American or Australian the guy just sounds confused

Guy couldn't be more delusional. Sounds like the cartoon lucky charms leprechaun. It's fkn terrible and did Ireland, England, and the American film industry a massive disservice. Pointless leaps on a MASSIVE budget just to help tank an already terrible idea of a film

Depends on which part of Northern Ireland. Also the person and their inflections. The Belfast accent is very strong.

Hes never nailed a accent in a film yet. His cockney in green street is embarrassing. his accent in the gentlemen changes from posh english to Geordie numerous times. In Pacific rim he sounds like an over top version of himself in sons of anarchy. The only reason he got away with it in sons of anarchy was because when it started he was that well known. Like the accent hes talking in now is total fake. Hes honestly only got a career because he's a awesome looking guy.

Northern Irish here. I couldn't finish the movie for 2 reasons - 1. It was a really bad movie all round on so many levels, and 2. His accent was probably the worst thing about it, and that's saying a lot! Even Tom Cruise in Far and Away was better, and his voice coach gave up on trying to teach him because he insisted on doing a comedy Cork Begorrah accent the whole time!!!!!
