My fav floatant is definitely Cortland Dab... the smallest dab will float your fly forever unless of course your catching a lot of fish which of course means your fly is floating high and dry.....love the video's keep em coming
Just don't forget to consult your fly shop if your fly stays up for more than 4 hours.
I’ve never heard such a great dissertation on this subject. Great job
Charlie o-boy , I did not realize how very special you really are , until now , thank you
I learned so much. Thanks Charlie.
Great information, Thank you Charlie!
Hello 🎉 for 2024 From NW Michigan !!! Health to You KING 👑 CRAVEN 🥳👍🏻
Another great video useful for all levels of experience. It took me a lot of time on the water to figure these processes out myself, wish this had been available back then. About five years too late Charlie, lol!!!!
Thanks for posting! great video. for me, loon top ride is the best. just a few shakes in the bottle is all needed. keep up the great videos we love them!
Great video! Lots of good information on a variety of products, not just one or two. Would like to hear more on treating CDC. Thank you!
VERY helpful ~ thanks man!
Enjoyed seeing your birthday present hanging in your office.
Echoing a comment above. I have really great things to say about Loon Lochsa for CDC. My Dry Magic tube ran out long ago and I haven’t seen a replacement where I live in Spain. I use the rubber band trick to dry out my CDC flies and it works splendidly.
Great content
Really nice video. I discovered cdc oil a few years back and really like it.
Nice , years ago you turned me on to the Fly Magic and I have been using it ever since . Two years ago I started using the Fly Agra , after tying all winter I took the boxes of dries I had tied and a little paint brush and coated them with it and they floated until summer . I also use the dry shake for drying out flies that get water logged and get them floating again. The frog Fanny I use but like you mostly on small stuff and you have to be careful using it . When you take the brush out the silicone comes with it in a cloud , but it does work . I think your next video should be on how you catch all those fish in a minute, I bet you would get a million views :-) Thanks for your insight on the world of floatants .
Another awesome video, Charlie. How about a deep dive into applying dubbing?
Lots of good information there, thank you. Perhaps you could do a video on how to determine the weight of a fly rod if it's not marked or labeled. I have a bamboo rod that my dad bought in 1936 that is now mine.
I've had good luck with lochsa for cdc. Thoughts?
Was I the inspiration for this one? Thanks, Max! Thanks Charlie! Next up Hareline vs. Stonfo vs all other Bodkin tools? I’m still on the hunt for one of those 3-in-1 pokers! I gotta say, Stonfo feels almost like a surgical instrument…
I haven't bought gel flotant in years. Every time I'm about out, I find a bottle on the river bank. This past year I found a full bottle of Loon Aquel and half a bottle of gink.
I’m a recent convert to the liquid dry shake. Miracle for putting a fly back on the surface. Plus I love an oxymoron. I’d like to see it in more shops
Thoughts on Amadou Patch? Great video by the way!
Helpful, thanks. Your thoughts on Lochsa vs Aquel please?
Can you do a video on Whip Finishers? Start the video with a very simple “hey kids! Here’s how you use a whip finisher!” Then later dive into the different kinds/shapes/applications. What you prefer. Etc. Whip finishing is so second nature once you get tying, but starting off I had a hard time finding a clear and simple video showing how to use one. You could even make the initial demonstration into YT Shorts and Insta Reels.
Thank you for the great information on the various products. One question. Are any of these products harmful to fish, especially if you've caught a fish very soon after applying the floatant to your pattern?
Can you show how you attached the macrame poly yarn indicators to your leaders and manage keeping them floating? Thank you
the dry fly patch is clutch
Any comments on paste floatants, such as Mucilin or Payette Paste?
So in the last couple of years, I have dunked my just-tied flies in Fly Agra and let them dry b/f putting them in my boxes. Could this work on CDC flies as well? (think Mole fly)
Does Flyagra have a shelf life? Mine is still a liquid, but it seems to have jelled a little.
What about loon lochsa?
Hi Charlie I find your videos both tying and accessory based extremely interesting and very informative. I see in the background you have both Whiting and Metz amongst your tying materials can you explain what you like/dislike about both of these feathers?
Nice. You don't have to tie flies every time.
use nothing but desiccant/silica on CDC; all else mats the microfibers you count on for flotation...never put aquel on CDC
