Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl (1985 Dramatisation BOW137)
Ойын-сауық
The first of the two Charlie stories in the Rainbow series. This same dramatisation is repeated in the Collins Theatre Collection, which is also on this channel so be aware they are the same!
I included both on my Roald Dahl playlist for those who grew up with one or the other. The Rainbow version includes the Rainbow ident at the start.

It doesn't matter how old you are, any Roald Dahl book on KZread is great to listen to especially when you struggle to sleep or need something to listen to to pass the time. Excellent voices.
Thank you for uploading this audio book its nice for sleeping and relaxing for me😊
I had this cassette as a kid and I nearly wore it out listening to it over and over. Such nostalgic joy!

Same here. Still have it in the loft.
I love the use of the sound effects they used for this audiobook, they make the whole thing sound very real.

Never heard this one, since I had great glass elevator, and my dad just read me the book. Nice to catch up, and of course play spot the actor.
Oh wow - I grew up listening to this! Pretty sure I still have the tape too! What a nostalgia trip.
I got this in my Xmas stocking in 1986 and loved it. Thank you so much for uploading. It has taken me right back to my childhood. It is just as I remember it.
Whoever played Mr Wonka in this adaptation did the perfect voice for that eccentric and quirky but warm-hearted character!

That's Gordon Fairclough 😊 The same actor who voiced The Blood-Bottler in the BFG.

This is how I see Willy Wonka. Better than Gene Wilder I think, and certainly better than Johnny Depp! Hated Depp's performance after growing up with this

Sounds like the same actor from the ride at Alton Towers Charlie and the chocolate factory

I like how he slows down when Charlie introduces himself. Like he already knows he's going to be the winner.

This is a very good performance indeed! Reminds me a bit of Douglas Hodge who played Wonka in the west end musical and also recorded the unabridged audiobook. Fairclough was pretty great in this ♡
Thanks so much! You have no idea how long I’ve been thinking about this audio cassette. Listened to it most nights as a kid!!
The voice of Mr Salt in this sounded like Roy Kinnear who also played Mr Salt in the 1971 film adaptation. As well as Susan Sheridan for Mrs. Bucket, Mrs. Beauregard and Augustus Gloop.

Susan Sheridan? As in Eilonwy from the Black Cauldron?
@JamesVlogsHomeBeyond
Жыл бұрын
@@tristanpetty7173 Yes, I never knew she did the Black Cauldron until a couple of years back, she's been doing a lot of voice work for TV, including Jimbo the Jumbo Jet Set, Noddy's Toyland Adventures, The Beano All-stars, Beano Videostars, The Lampies, The Animal Shelf and The Little Polar Bear among others.
I'm back and still drowning in nostalgia...
Blimey!! I had this as a kid. Thank you so so much for uploading.

Funny how every version cuts it down to just one relative to come with the kid instead of both parents.
0:23 This Music Is So Funky. Thanks Mate. X
wow i love the sound and efect you made good job keep on making video like thiss
Lovely
I remember now how this cassette was almost solely responsible for informing my vocal impressions of the elderly! 😂
Does anyone else picture the original Gene Wilder film when they listen to this audiobook?
The version I remember hearing was read by Roald Dahl. This music however, was used for my version of Basil The Great Mouse Detective.
I love that Rainbow ident
I love it
I loved these tapes as a kid.
Mr salt kind of sounds like the 1971 Mr salt for some reason lol😂
The person who voices Wonka in this audiobook is a very obscure actor called Gordon Fairclough, who only has a few credits to his name. He's been in things like z cars and Coronation Street back in the 60s. Here's a rare episode of z cars that he was in; as soon as you hear his voice, you know immediately that it's the same actor. Go to 9:14 in the video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/naN4qJuNk5fRqMo.html
I will never listen to this audiobook in the same way again now that I've seen the new Wonka film with Timothee Chalamet.
The narrator sounds like perfect peter
I wonder if that’s Roy Kinnear from the 1971 film as Mr. Salt? The voice sounds almost identical!

As far as I know it is him yes. His voice is pretty distinctive.
Roy Kinnear in this who was in 1971 film version
Does anyone know who voices Charlie's father in this? Or Grandpa George, or the shopkeeper?
This audiobook is missing the boat scene; why is there no boat scene?
Does anyone know the full cast of this audiobook? who plays Grandpa Joe, and Mike Teavee, does anyone know?

Andrew Sachs for Joe I think we can safely assume that Charlie's actor also did Mike.
