looking at this from a perspective of addiction rather than anxiety makes this even more powerful. So many people are watching this dance and relating their own truths and struggles to it. youre helping more people than you know love, youre doing amazing.

A similar theme was done on SYTYCD Season 5. Look up Kayla & Kupono dancing to Gravity by Sara Bareilles, choreographed by Mia Michaels. It still gives me chills and is one of the best all-time from the show.

The thing about this dance is it can represent any personal demons that someone struggles with. It doesn't have to be just if you have anxiety. Have you struggled in an abusive relationship? You can see yourself in this dance. I myself struggled with addiction since I was 5 years old, and this showed just how it felt. Especially the part where Charli was trying to crawl away and Mark pulled her back. That's exactly what addiction is like.

I didn't know it was about anxiety before reading the comments, I thought it really fit with an abusive relationship. Mostly because there were times when they danced quite happily and beautifully. Personally with addiction and anxiety I don't have many highs with them, just lows!

for me it's party culture in college. and it goes hand in hand with alcohol dependence for me. i would still feel insecure and alone even after partying and hanging out with my fake friends and just kept drinking to feel numb. so it was like a cycle i kept getting pulled back into. this is my favorite contemporary dance ever, i think

@@bananawammabama as with any art it's of course up for interpretation. I would agree with you that this dance represents ups and downs with something or someone toxic. Knowing and even trying to escape, but constantly being pulled back to experience the highs again.

Mark deserves an Emmy for his choreography.. Several from this season!! Definitely one of the best!!! Thank you Mark for your hard work and dedication!!!

and her acting and facial emotion throughout the dance. For example her face when she was crawling away and he pulled her leg dragging her back and her face at the end when he grabbed her and she pushed him off literally gave me chills.

Echoing what others have said, Mark is an amazing choreographer and Charli is making his art into perfection!

this one made me cry. the choreography, the costumes, and the song choice were just perfect. and these dancers executed it perfectly. they told a story. i don't know what everyone else interpreted it as, but it called me back to a year in college when i was so insecure and wanted to feel accepted and have friends so badly that i would party every weekend, but i never felt that acceptance, i just felt more and more insecure. and one day i got hurt. but today im fully emotionally healed from my college trauma and i deter my demons everyday like Charli did at the very end. loved this so much.

Full on crying whenever i watch this dance! This girl is beyond talented. I am amazed by her!

I was so mad gleb or glen or Len or whatever his name is gave a 9 not a 10 . Like come on wtf more could he have wanted!?! But then they gave Wayne all 10s last night… like I don’t get why he’s getting such high scores tbh. I’m 24 so I’m not some little girl obsessed with charli, but her and mark are literally PERFECT every performance I just don’t see how they’re in a tie constantly with people who most definitely aren’t 1st place material 😡

@@myafrorocks for sure deserved all tens! i think the only reason she got one 9 was because one of the other dancers was leaving and they wanted to give her all 10s and have her be the only one and first to get a perfect score before she leaves. i think charli definetly would of gotten a perfect score if it wasnt for that

charli I really hope you know how much this dance has inspired me. I deal with anxiety and people think it’s a joke or I’m “ making it up” and this dance shows how much it can take over you. I cry every single time I watch this. Congratulations to the both of you! Best of luck ❤

From the first time I saw this performed to each time I've replayed it, I keep breaking into tears. This depiction is so accurate and beautiful. Such a powerful dance and my favorite one thus far. If no one was a fan before, they surely are now.

there is such an amazing story in this dance because it shows whatever the viewer has dealt with. any trauma can relate to this, addiction, anxiety, depression, abuse, assault, schizophrenia, if you see it as that, it’s what it means to you and you don’t get that in a lot of choreographies. 10/10

This dance had me in tears!! I’m only 14 and I’ve been struggling with anxiety for 7 years now and dance perfectly shows what it’s like to deal with it!! The choreography is so innovative as well! This dance is so pure and raw which is something I love about it!!! It deserved a perfect score!!!

this is the dance where I first thought to myself "she could win this." And every week after this one, she just proved over and over again what an amazing incredible DANCER she is. absolutely breathtaking and extremely powerful.

This performance keeps making me tear up. It's so meaningful. I feel like she expresses herself through dance so well. It truly speaks to us. I am in awe of her talent and her passion. I'm so so glad she found it again being on DWTS.

The unique coreography and concepts Mark and Derek excelled at have been sorely missed in recent years.

I just saw this and I got goosebumps I can relate to this as I suffer with depression since I was 13 and I'm now 34 and still suffer with it. It's very hard to live with and it feels like this black cloud over me. Thank you both for doing this dance it means a lot to people who can understand what depression and anxiety feel like. X

I don’t follow Charli, so from the perspective of someone in their late 20s, I honestly thought she was just another teenager with an over the top claim to fame without any worries in life. I was not expecting to hear her say that she suffers from anxiety like I do. It really makes you take a step back and remember that she’s human too. She’s still learning how to live her life and I’m sure it can be super overwhelming when you’re young. It takes a lot of strength, courage, and trust in yourself to fight against your inner demons. I hope she continues to take care of herself and stay grounded. Seems like she’s a good role model for others. I’m also SO glad Mark is back this season. He’s incredibly talented and his choreography is some of the best I’ve ever seen. This was a spectacular dance from these two!

Tbh I was never a fan of Charli but seeing how talented she is has made me respect her as a dancer/performer now. I'm also someone that deals with anxiety so this routine is by far my favorite in the way that she interpreted it, truly amazing & breathtaking. They both are gifted in what they do. The first time I watched this, I was in shock and awe because I know what anxiety feels like. I know how that darkness feels; it's suffocating, and it's claustrophobic. It's also isolating and painful, but when I watched this performance, what went through my mind was the amount of TRUST and CONSENT Charli had to have with Mark in order to do this dance.

YOU ARE SO INCREDIBLY TALENTED! Your dancing brings tears to my eyes, the story is so beautiful.
