I think James Charles got this guy’s met gala invite by mistake...

The swan gown is divine
I *wish* I'd been able to see this exhibition. These pieces of wearable art are just breathtaking! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see some of it.
Thank you for this wonderful presentation of such a great designer! Beautifully done!
Beautiful gowns. The construction, materials and internal corset like support are very reminiscent of the gowns designed by Charles Frederick Worth for the House of Worth in Paris. Charles Worth was born in England and opened his prestigious Parisian fashion house in 1858. It operated under his descendants until 1952 and was closed in 1956. The brand was revived in 1999.

😆 I challenge you to find a Worth dress that looks anything like a Charles James dress or is constructed in any kind of a similar way. Ridiculous. You just wanted to show off you’ve heard about Charles Frederick Worth….

@@themarquis336 My compliments were not meant to cause offence or to demean the iconic work of Charles James. Neither were they an intended vehicle to 'name drop' or to illustrate the extent of my knowledge on the subject matter. Both Worth and James were born in England, both went on to rival, influence and surpass the French Couture Houses of Paris during the Guilded Age and beyond.
He really loved the feminine form. He’s my all time favourite couturier. Love from Australia 🇦🇺

Wow. The ballgowns are something else and the hats
There was a scene in the movie Ocean's 8 where at the met gala they showcased the jewelries and gowns and there was instrumental playing. It was absolutely enchanting.

Do it, and buy a membership online to the museum, it gets you to the front of the line at anytime, for free to these exhibits. Of course membership costs more than the ticket but for a year it’s worth it, and the extra cost is worth not waiting hours. Plus a discount to the gift shop

Lina Martínez Girl...it’s amazing. I live in NYC, and it’s worth it EVERY TIME (except for that one Punk exhibit, they should’ve done more research). The Camp exhibition and McQueen’s exhibition were, by far, the best ones.
I really wish I could afford to go see this. He ranks up there with the best artists. He is inspiring.

This exhibit was in 2014. Go to The Met online store. There was a wonderful catalog accompanying the exhibit you may be able to get
How exciting to show the architecture of the dress by breaking it down on a digital screen and the robotic arm pointing out the structure. I miss the Met soooo much. I lived near the Met for a while and now live in Europe. The Met with the Costume exhibitions is the one place I miss the most.
Anyone else get literal chills or just me?
The met gala people were trying to invite Charles James not James Charles
Holy WOW... I've never heard of this artist..

I know! And it makes no sense because his work is beautiful.
Charles James was such a master. So sad to know that he died penniless. The MET needs to do another exhibition on him and take it on the road all over the world, so that more people can learn about him. Fashion schools should offer a senior level course that explores James’ concepts with the final project being to create a look inspired by him for a fashion show.
He was right all along. His work is art. These are superb and the taste level is unbelievable!!
I'm in love....beautiful....just so beautiful
Incredible. My immediate reaction is that i want to touch them handle them, feel the construction. Just gorgeous. Although they are architectural and very structured, some are very playful too and invited us to touch 🧡
He is, by far, one of my absolute favorite designers.
A fashion visionaire and a true couture master.
Such beauty in those gowns ❤️
Vintage inspired ballgowns wow 😍its so gorgeous. I wish i could wear one of those gowns😭😍
I love those that relentlessly push the envelope of what fashion could become, in some ways he is in spirit a predecessor of one of my current inspirations, Iris van Herpen. However, this also stokes my craving for the beauty of fashion from the past. Exquisite.
Breathtaking
Love Charles-collected Modess because ads and became a fashion Illustrator because ... the Glamour ♡
Breath taking. We should all be dressing this way.
Very beautiful!!! Thank you very much for to share with us❤
Wonderful presentation! So many beautiful unique artistic fabrics in dramatic stunning gowns of spectacular fashions! The Met channel is simply inspirational! Thank you so very much!
Beautifully crafted dresses!
Im fascinated by the mind, the innovation and discovery. Dont just see a dress..its more than that
Beautiful beautiful thank you for shearing.
Oh, what I would give to be able to go back in time and become his apprentice...
A wonderful documentary of glorious work.
So glad I got to see this! LOVE the MET !
Very chic! Tule is so foldable. 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️

By turning some of the lights on it would have a higher chance of the colors of the dress fading and getting discolored

Oh sooooooo beautiful.
Art.
I wish England would do a Charles James exhibition
An important video I shall come back to again. The man’s work is fascinating.
Exquisite
Where did they get all these from and isn’t it sad that they aren’t being worn out anymore. I wish there were spaces to wear this sort of thing to still.

All of these gowns are beyond the red carpet. Let any woman get permission to wear one, and she's talked about having THAT DRESS💃ON!

I came to the comments to see if anyone knew James Charles... you know...
James Charles vs Charles James, who would win?
Very difficult to see details because the ambient lighting was used. Only quick exterior shots of clothing. Very topical shallow overview. I learned almost nothing about this designer.
Those ball gowns deserve to move and dance. A ball gown is not a sculpture.
Fabulous but archaeological, that for me is a compliment. Nowadays Maison Dior sells - not really special - sneakers for 1700 EUROS! This fact alone makes clear how we are fallen in truly dark ages...
James Charles persona or side hustle
I want to wear them all 🤤
I thought this was about james charles and was very confused
Is me or anyone else misunderstood with the spelling to james Charles 😂

Charles James.
Amazing and fascinating - but only one body type. I wonder if he ever challenged himself to work with very thin, plump, flat chested etc.
And you can’t go........why?
I thought this said James Charles and I was about to be so confused???????
You should avoid show. Just get the catalogue. Show is so dark, you see Nothing! As usual, dumb media swoons.
The dresses are beautiful but I do wonder about his wish to change female anatomy to an ‘ideal’. I suppose that’s the difference in attitudes between now, and when he was working.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. These gowns are all ugly to me...to put it simply.

Couture isn't always beautiful...a lot of couture I find grotesque or not pleasing to the eye because of the symmetry...like one shoulder is huge and the other shoulder is not there at all or small..or the clothes come off the body in a weird way we aren't used to seeing...I think the swan gown is gorgeous but I like bustle dresses...on the other hand I think the puffy white coat is awful...but they are all interesting and have an artistic style to them that is probably different when scene in person...I imagine seeing the stitching and all the little details we don't see on a flat screen make a difference It's hard to like something if you simply don't like something and I get that...mermaid dresses for example are something I cannot stand and never will no matter who has them on.
