Charles Barkley talks gambling with Michael Jordan, analyst challenges, and meeting Tiger Woods

Спорт

On this week's episode of GOLF's Subpar, NBA Legend, and analyst, Charles Barkley joins former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost and his close friend and on course rival Drew Stoltz for an exclusive, in-studio, interview. Charles explains the difficulty of criticizing friends as an analyst, how it affected his relationships with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and why his golf game just isn't as good as it used to be. Charles also shares some legendary tales from gambling on the course and at the tables.

Great interview! I met Chuck in 1992 when i was 13. He sat directly in front of me at a Mets vs Phillies game at the old Vet (he's a big Mets fan btw). Was talking about the upcoming Olympics on Barcelona with the Dream Team and ended up signing my hat. Such a nice dude, exactly what you see on TV! He didn't brush me off and i remember saying "good luck at the Olympics Mr Barkley" ... He said (call me Chuck, and thank you, i appreciate that very much." Again, I'm one in a million kids who he's interacted with, and even though it was only 10 seconds he couldn't have been nicer and you could tell he was genuinely appreciative. Amazing with all his fame and fortune he's probably the best down to earth, humble dude in sports/entertainment. Unapologetically himself.

During the '96 Olympics I was assigned to chauffering the Dream Team. Barkley is a stand-up authentic dude. Unlike other players/celebrities (Pippen), he treated regular working people the same way he treated celebrities. This man has never forgot his roots. I can also attest to his tipping philosophy

He was a rude, pompous dickhead who brought guests in, racked up a bill over $4000 and left (if you were lucky) $20. After listening to this, I have that much more respect for Sir Charles. He is a man of principle. Very few people would sacrifice their relationships just to stand for a certain principle. I personally would give anything to be friends with Michael Jordan and I doubt that I would do anything to jeopardize that. Charles did and he has my respect for it. I hope people like Kendrick Perkins and others are listening because, as entertaining as Perk is with his takes, he's being compromised by his relationships and will never criticize LBJ, Harden, Westbrook, KD, and others.

I just love Charles. I'm from the Philly area and was always a fan... until I met him in person. The guy is the absolute NICEST guy you could ever meet. So down to earth and easygoing. And so generous with his time. I just went up to him and said something like I just wanted to say hello and I'm a HUGE fan. We ended up having a 15 minute conversation. Amazing human being. I've been a Republican my whole life, and I believe Charles 100%... both parties have become shit. I loved JFK. I wasn't alive then, but I read so much about things he did, and he was a great President. I loved Ronald Reagan. I don't see a lot of difference between the two. The vast majority of people say they were nothing alike, because one is Democrat and one is Republican. That's the problem... everyone is focused on the party... Every politician is indebted to their party. Politicians care about the party MUCH MORE than the people they are supposed to represent. At the end of the day, politicians don't represent people any more, on their party. That's not the way our government is supposed to work.

@@fungidungie I can see why you're skeptical. I just look up on google. He looks tall on bodybuilding stage and movies. Wiki: " Height Schwarzenegger's official height of 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) has been brought into question by several articles. In his bodybuilding days in the late 1960s, he was measured to be 6 ft 1.5 in (1.867 m), a height confirmed by his fellow bodybuilders.[citation needed] However, in 1988, both the Daily Mail and Time Out magazine mentioned that Schwarzenegger appeared noticeably shorter.[198] Prior to running for governor, Schwarzenegger's height was once again questioned in an article by the Chicago Reader.[199] As governor, Schwarzenegger engaged in a light-hearted exchange with Assemblyman Herb Wesson over their heights. At one point, Wesson made an unsuccessful attempt to, in his own words, "settle this once and for all and find out how tall he is" by using a tailor's tape measure on the Governor.[200] Schwarzenegger retaliated by placing a pillow stitched with the words "Need a lift?" on the five-foot-five-inch (1.65 m) Wesson's chair before a negotiating session in his office.[201] Bob Mulholland also claimed Schwarzenegger was 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m) and that he wore risers in his boots.[202] In 1999, Men's Health magazine stated his height was 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m).[203]"
