Charles Barkley: Michael Jordan doesn’t like me anymore

Ойын-сауық

Charles Barkley explains why Michael Jordan is like a brother to him and when - as a NBA analyst on TNT - he upset Jordan by voicing an opinion that he wasn’t doing a good job as owner of the Charlotte Bobcats / Hornets. Barkley goes on to say it’s his job to remain honest on TV and that he thinks the relationship can be repaired.

I met Barkley briefly many years ago, when he was playing for Phoenix. He was at the opening of his friend's restaurant, with a lot of other Suns players, and he was hanging out by the bar. I walked up and said hey, I've been a big fan for years, that kind of thing, and Sir Charles was, for the 30 seconds we talked, warm, kind, and friendly. He didn't have to be, and a lot of famous guys in his position aren't, but he was. He's a genuinely good guy, and I'm happy to see him having so much success as a broadcaster. He deserves it.

I remember when I was a kid, that tension was REAL. I never thought about it this way but it is an interesting take. During those days it was indeed the case that MJ was the good guy and Barkley very much the bad guy. But in reality it was pretty much the other way around in terms of how they treated the people around them. Just goes to show how much different people may actually be compared to the way they are portrayed in the media.

If Barkley held out for a major team like Los Angeles or Houston, he would have at least a couple championships. Will Perdue won a championship with the Spurs. Doesn't make him better than Barkley. MJ is a textbook narcissist, perfectionist.

I personally met Charles many years ago at a bar in Santa Barbara. Every year during the off-season, Michael Jordan would have a basketball camp there and would bring along some of his buddies to keep him company. Charles likes to drink and have a good time and he was out on the main floor chatting with people and taking pictures. He even signed my basketball card of him which I have to this day. He then got on the microphone and announced to the entire bar of about 70 people that drinks were on him for the next five minutes. He was nice, genuine and extremely generous - qualities that you don't find in many people these days let alone celebrities. Thank you Charles for being yourself.

Barkley is honest in the easy way--he gives voice to what he thinks and feels, but he doesn't face himself. It's easy to dump on the other person in the spirit of 'telling it like it is.' But if you're going to deliver 'honest criticism,' you have to ask yourself what your motivation is before you dump it.

Charles ego is at play in this whole thing as well. Charles speaks his mind which is not the same as telling it like it is. He often times doesn't think of others at all, which is not a good trait to have. To think you can just go around saying whatever you want without considering others is just as egotistical. Now he was right about Charlotte, but he should know it isn't just Michael that runs the Hornets, it takes the whole organization all the way down to the practice players. He also didn't have to slam a friend behind his back on national television. I loved Charles as a player and love him on inside, but he has more in common with Trump than George Carlin when it comes to speaking on things.

Somehow, in your interviews they are quite honest and not answering questions "safely" (eg. Shaq interviews). You don't ask stupid questions and you let the interviewee know you did your homework before the interview which is quite professional.

You can tell what kind of boss MJ is back then in Wizards. He traded Hamilton with Stackhouse which made them lose. And accidently made Pistons a great team. MJ is too stubborn and kind of mean. But still he is not a bad person, bad person wouldn't have great children, and we all know he is a good son to his parents, he is just not as good as people thought he was. Frankly, I don't think he like the public.

Not only would Jordan want you to compete he would make sure he gave you a beating on the court that you would never forget. Can you imagine Barkley and the Suns beating the Bulls, that would be the ultimate prize. They would be the only team in history to beat the Bulls in the finals and Barkley would be bragging about it for the rest of his life. The only buttering up was Barkley buttering up his biscuit
