Here’s a link with more details on the e-Golfs charging capabilities:
pod-point.com/...
If you would like cheap EV charging to, it’s really easy to set up.
I'm amazed at the savings available on the Octopus Go tariff and am very happy paying 68% less for my home EV charging.
Here’s the steps:
1. Use this link to get your quote and sign up for their best tariff (The Go tariff won’t be there yet)
share.octopus....
2. Wait while the switch you over.
3. Once switched, schedule your smart meter installation with them.
4. Once installed, just ask to be put on the ‘Octopus Go’ tariff.
5. Use your charger or car settings to make sure you’re charging between 12:30 - 4:30am.
Jobs a good‘n!
If you would like to see how much you could save, then please use the link above.
You will then be able to quote against what you are paying now and sign up if you are happy.
All the very best!

Hi Steve I’ve watched a couple of your KZread videos about EV - and I’m really grateful to you!! I’m female, and over 55 so you’ve got a new demographic!! I have an Egolf ( I love it!!!) and I’m about to go on a long journey for the first time so needed to find out about non home charging! I have solar panels on my roof so that’s a great way of having free/cheap electricity at home (my top tip!!) so I’d never used public charge points before. Thanks so much for your clear and straightforward advice, I didn’t know about the extra plug under the cover on my car charge point for example- ooh err!! The only problem with your video was when you went outside as there was a lot of loud traffic background noise. Your videos helped me know what apps to download and that there were free public charge points so all good! Bug thumbs up from me!!

Hello Steve, I am a lady, and I am 71! I have had my eGolf for about 20 months, and only charge it from a plug in my garage, and it does take 16 hours to charge it. But yesterday, I learned that some people, who are charging two TVs in their garages, are having their cars catch on fire. So, I really wanted to figure out how to get the car to stop charging at 80%. I started here, but will definitely be looking at my car manual to see if I can program the car to stop then. I also charge the car outside. I figured it must be safe, since the connectors out in the world (grocery stores, etc.) are outside. I thought your video was helpful. thank you.

Hi, I have a Tesla model and a 6 year old leaf, which I’m changing. We had a test drive of an ID.3 and was fully expecting to buy one, but we were underwhelmed by its ‘blandness’ and rather fussy controls, attempting to be a bit like the Tesla and failing. We have had many golfs and loved them, so we managed to get one of the last e-golfs made, as an ex demo model even though it is old technology and half the range...

Very interesting specially the battery health, my honest opinion is that the most damaging battery spectrum will be the lower 40% to 20%, I don’t think the degradation happens so much on the 80% to 100%, don’t get me wrong there will be degradation after 80% and lower than 40% ( that’s the range that satellites use to maintain bateria for many years to come) but the degradation happens more on the lower range than higher range, I would love to see this tested to be more scientific! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for posting the link to the FB group! That’s very kind. I must contact the admin to check I can post the videos there directly. On the app and in the car, you can set charge limits. It’s a great feature, but not that intuitive to use. (maybe its my age!) For example: - Monday to Thursday, I want the car charged to 90% and the heating set to 24 degrees at 8am when I leave for work. - Fridays, I want the car charged to 100% and the heating set to 24 degrees at 7am when I leave for work. - Saturday and Sunday, I want the car charged to 80% and the heating left off by 10am as may/may not need the car. - I want the charging to only take place between xx time and xx time as have an off peak tariff. I’ll make some videos in the coming weeks as easier to show than explain. Have a great weekend!

You can find that in the infotainment system under e-manager. It gives you the option to set the maximum charge, you can also put a timer on it so it charges in off-peak or just before you go to work, including the possibility to cool-down or heat-up the car at the time you go to work or leave for home. Can be doen via the weConnect app as well, but in-car works just fine.

However, when I plug it in at 5.00pm it starts charging straight away. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Justin

  • @SteveJulien

    @SteveJulien

    4 жыл бұрын

Thanks Justin! Sounds like your min charge setting may be too high? This will override your delayed charging. So: If your min charge is set to say 70% and you plug in at 69%, your car will just fill up (it won’t just go to 70% and stop) We’ve set ours to 10% so that as long as it’s above this when we plug in, it won’t charge until the Octo window. If that doesn’t make sense/help try posting it in the VW eGolf UK Facebook group. Someone can then reply with pics.

City driving is very good for range as you'll get lots of opportunities for regen and may be driving slow. Thrashing the car will hammer the range, yes. Weather also plays a big part. We get 130+miles if its still and say 21 degs C but only 95 miles if its -0, windy and raining.

Hi Tom! Thanks! Yes, you can set up timed charging either on the dash or via the app. Basically: 1. You tell the car where home is. 2. You tell it to only charge off peak when it’s at home. It’s quite easy, I like Go which works out about £16 per 1,000 miles driven. Here’s my playlist on it: kzread.info/head/PLvWIWt_PRaIWkunWEGeyvXOE7cISFGtfF As for home charging, you should be able to just get a 7.2kW wall connector installed with the grant and your good to go! If you go for something like a Zappi, you can the charge times via the app for it as well/instead.
