I was thinking of getting shorty headers because my driving is around 60% city and 40% highway. But there are these dynatech long tubes and high flow cats that are a great price and seem like good quality as well

I like the tone with the magnaflow cat back exhaust, It's not obnoxiously loud but noticeable. Very noticeable when getting on expressway/parkway. Lol. You can feel a little more pull from a dig and at the low to mid rpm curve. I had to bring it back to the shop to have a header bolt tightened on the drivers side. It came loose and had exhaust leak. The shop said that it happens with these types of headers. (I dont know about that) had them installed last year in March 2019 and brought it back to have the exhaust leak fixed in jan. 2020. Aside from that it's been ok.

Mine is not the 50 state one because for some reason I was sent the “platinum” version or whichever one ends in -R. Not sure if they’ll still ship those ones here though. If you buy the locked version ive heard that they can unlock it remotely but you’ll want to call and ask them first

Ceramic coating headers doesn’t stop cracking, it lowers under hood temps aka heat soak which will cause power loss. Second if you ever install headers get some good gaskets “I use Percy’s” and I also use Stage 8 header bolts simply because they never back out and there’s never been anything better made. Regardless of and header/ gasket you use you need to retorque your headers after a few hundred miles. Also I always pull the dipstick tube to make the install easier, and you have to reuse the front stud that the tube mounts to. Lastly short tube headers will net you about 15 RWHP. Most people can’t feel it but your caned tune will net you about 25-30 RWHP and more from a custom tune which everyone can feel. But yes a tune will compliment a header upgrade on your car.

You’re right about the heat soak part, I don’t know why I didn’t mention that. But, I must also add that any time you’re heating and cooling a metal like that, you’re exposing it to cracking. A big “materials science” thing. With regards to those numbers you threw out, I would say those are on the high side, but not impossible. I bought some Percy’s gaskets. Otherwise, you’re on point!

DonnyR/T when you hear of cracks it will most likely be the exhaust manifolds. The manifolds will crack because of the porosity of the cast iron and temp change. Most of the headers for our Hemi cars are made from 409 or 304 stainless, with anywhere between 16-18 gauge tubing and good thick 3/8 flanges. Cracks that happen on short tube headers on our cars are extremely rare. The cracks that headers will develop will happen 90% of the time at the welds. This will happen because of vibration or if you have long tubes and a lowered car. The cracks from vibration at the welds can be poor penetration, the wrong rod, or contamination. Headers are by far the best bolt on to net power you could buy, unless your car comes with them like the SRT does. It’s no wonder why they come factory installed. If you look at real before and after dyno runs on 5.7 Hemi’s you’ll see mid teen RWHP gains.

Ah yes. I was only looking at top end power. The mid range gains are pretty nice. With shorties the car started breaking loose at 30 rolls. Don’t get me wrong, the shorty headers are the best mod I’ve done to the car

I have 2013 blacktop R/T.......have the flowmaster shorties with slp lm1 for mids and rear reso delete, stock cats still on....sounds like a beast. If you have the diablo tune...look into a Jay Greene tune...that will wake it up even more. He's quick to respond...uses paypal....once you pay and send him a list of all your mods he will email you a tune and just download, data log and send it back and he will tweak it and resend back. i love it.

I’m thinking of doing shortys too and I was even thinking of these JBA headers because I have catless midpipes, what was the hardest part? Was it that bolt? And did you replace all header bolts with new ones?

The hardest part is really the biggest part which is bolting them up. A few of the bolts are really far up there and hard to wrench in

Good for daily driver Long tubes are for race track quality vehicles

Man I think I just snapped a few manifold bolts...time for an upgrade

Thanks man! Honestly - Im not exactly sure on the exact torque measurement. You just have to be reallyyyy carefule not to strip the bolt in the block. You dont have to go too tight because there is a gasket

When you say you couldn’t feel a difference until you got your vehicle tuned. What is the tune from the Diablo sport? Or was it from a professional tuner? The only reason I ask is because I have the Diablo sport tuner and a cold intake, and I just ordered a pair of Shorty headers. Did you have any other Bolt ons aside from the intake and Shorty headers and tune at the time of this video?

Absolutely! Tuning is a necessity! You'll love those shorties. Also, I've heard great things about upgrading the factory catalytic converters. Aftermarket ones are pretty expensive though

It is possible to get them unlocked but it can void the warranty. I got a Diablo tuner and had them unlock my pcm

@@mexicanhemi3753 I only got the Shortys because the engine was being replaced, and I took advantage of that. I already had the JBA catted mid-pipes (they are a cheaper and better replacement for the O.E.) so they fit right in. Also had the JBA cat-back. Had resonators welded in too. The Shortys will also work with the factory mid-pipes.

@@rhurtadorh32 I haven't had a problem with the JBA shortys. I have two recommendations. 1) Do not use the supplied gaskets. Get the O.E. gaskets. 2) Get the coated headers. Better for corrosion resistance.

They've been great. I prefer these Borlas over the other brands because Im not a fan of that chambered sound. These sound the best to me! No issues with police either but Im also a pretty mild driver

I would guess like 10 peak. You also have to look at the powerband throughout the RPMs though, as shorty headers are good for low end power

That’s a loaded question haha. Shorties are typically better for low end torque, are cheaper, and are more emissions friendly. Long tubes will require modification to mod pipes, are louder, better for top end, but also more expensive

Shorty headers don't really give you any extra power but they do change the sound. If you want real performance go with long headers and you can get 25-30hp with tune.

Shorties are CARB legal

Don't use gaskets it's came with header it's trash use oem 6.1 For header bolts I use 6.1 Header bolts for the 5.7 Headers..

Yea man - I got the 6.4 gaskets but the problem is that passenger side bolt - Ill torque em down when I pull the engine apart this may. Might also throw on some long tubes ;)

Long tubes make more power everywhere. Including low-end.

False! Long tubes kill low end torque just a little, but make up for it with big top end gains. So if ur not redlining ur motor driving around town, shorty headers might be the better choice. Shorty's (in most cases) increase low end torque which could be more beneficial for stoplight races.

You're backwards, shorty headers are for high rpm. Long tube is for low rpm torque

That is not the case for these motors, and it has been proven by countless dyno experiments. On older cars and other motors that is a possibility

You get more performance from just the tune, the short headers didn't matter.
