It was in this episode that the cult of Erwin the GOAT was born among his followers

This episode has to be in like my Top 3 favorite Attack On Titan episodes. Mikasa's sheer will and fanatic determination to get Eren back and her talk with Historia "I'm all out of time and room in my heart to care" hits so hard. The fact that its once again implied that there's more going on forcing Berthold, Reiner and Annie to be doing this. And of course the absolute Chad himself: Command Erwin. Even now, years later i still get chills seeing him yell "ADVANCE!" while being dragged away by a Titan. That has to be my one of my top 5 favorite moments in the series. To this day i always rewind that part a few times when i watch this episode.

I love how the writing makes Bert's and Ymir's words very cryptic on first watch, but on a rewatch with all the context, everything makes sense

I think it's backwards, "Somebody had to stain their hands with blood," means them, they had to kill to get Eren. If it wasn't them, it would have been somebody else.

The way Ymir and Historia cares about each other (You can see like romanticaly or not, i like to think on them like a a couple but if i can see it like a Sister/bestfriend relationship too) and how they love each other is really cute and amazing. Like Ymir was kidnapting her and sayin like "im only using u to save myself cuz your family is important😢" and she is like "whatever girl, im always gonna be your ally❤ no matter if whats wating for is horrific or if you are doing something really bad... who cares" (for me that is something that you only can say if you are crazy in love or if you trust TOO MUCH in someone😂) Cuties❤😂

Ewlrwin was just a human.. Nothing else still the most determined and has most courage ever seen.. He was really the hope

It's been a decade since I've read the manga, but I still viscerally remember the overwhelming emotions that commander Erwin gave me during his moments

no one gets this when bertholdt said "someone find us" meaning he wanted some to know them that they are the invaders or someone expose them for what they are...coz guilt was eating them, they couldn't bare the feeling of them being treated a friend by their victims...someone find us means someone expose them coz the longer it takes the harder they felt coz they are being treated as real friends that is why also rainer had a split personality coz he wanted to be with them....

so a slight difference in translation between this sub and the dub that might help you understand a bit better (I've seen the whole show in both multiple times bc I'm insane lol): Bertholdt says "If we were ever comrades, someone, please, come find us." he means it metaphorically, like that they're lost and need someone to save them. then a bit later, when responding to Mikasa demanding that they give Eren back, he says, "one of you has to do it. one of you has to be the one to stain your hands with my blood." basically, it's a dare almost. he's like, we're not just gonna hand him over, so to get him, you have to kill me, your friend, yourselves (this line is actually p important, it gets called back to later)

It was not a dare in Japanese. I’m Japanese, and what Bertholdt said to Mikasa basically means “I can’t give Eren back. I don’t want to do this, but I have to because someone has to, even with blood on their hands (to achieve the goal / for greater good).” It is in this very sense that this scene is recalled in future episode.

I don't speak Japanese so this is coming from word of mouth and might not be totally accurate, but Bertholdt's line "Someone come find us" is an odd way to translate his line from what I've heard. I've heard it described as a Japanese phrase meaning something like "God help us", but specifically in a way that is requesting penance/punishment for one's own sins. Edit: Can't find anything backing this up online. Might have just been some misinformation floating around.

To be precise, He said the exact words "dareka bokura wo mitsuketekure" which means - "someone please find/discover/locate/identify/recognise/notice us (our trueselves)" So it's means"please discover our trueselves" as they themselves are lost

I speak Japanese but I didn’t really understand what Bertholdt meant at this point. But in later season his words came back to me. Translation is right but we don’t understand it now and it’s okay.

When I watched the show for the first time this line fascinated me.. but after finishing it this line doesn't make sense to me.. The only explanation I found that *somewhat* makes sense to me is that when he said it, he was speaking to/wishing the people from their hometown will find them and save them right then and there. But the context in which it is said makes it sound more like he is speaking to anyone in general to find them. maybe even having something to do with the paths.. but nothing ever happens with it. It makes me feel like this line is an artifact from writing the story that was forgotten or never fully flashed out which is weird as it is pretty damn memorable.

Can’t wait for the confusion next episode
