I have been trying to find a spiritual practice that I can believe in whole-heartedly... and the basics of Sikhism are very intriguing to me. I wish that I could find something very similar, but where I know than woman is not considered to be less than equal to man. I know in the Lord's eyes we are the same. Thank you for listening.

Women are not less than men in Sikhi. The Guru's advoated vehemently for equal rights in a tie at India where women were considered inferior, here are some quotes from the gurus: "A woman, is the favourite in her parental home, loved dearly by her father and mother. In the home of her in-laws, she is the pillar of the family, the guarantee of its good fortune... Sharing in spiritual wisdom and enlightenment and with noble qualities endowed, a woman, the other half of man, escorts him to the door of liberation." (Varan, V.16) "[it] is a woman who keeps the race going" and that we should not "consider woman cursed and condemned, [when] from woman are born leaders and kings."

Sikhism is literally the first religion to Introduce women empowerment after people had forgotten the real hinduism of krishna. The 3rd sikh guru was once asked to allot preacher's across India to teach sikhism , and all the preacher's he alloted were women. From 6th to 10th guru ( when sikh gurus started maintaining armies and waged wars against the tyrany and oppression) they had women as generals in their armies..... the first and second sikh guru had verses written in the granth praising women. The 4th sikh guru praised women aswell. Infact the 5th sikh guru in sukhmani sahib says in a verse " maiya ke gun chet parani" which means "o soul , praise the qualities of the Divine mother" he literally refers to god as mother because he felt that when god is genderless and formless then why is he always referred to as the holy father or some masculine figure. Infact in the granth there are verses which says that those men who beat their wives can never find the way to the lords door. Infact sikhism is the only religion where one of the major figures in the religion is a women "Mirabai"

Women can do prayers from the holy shri gurugranth sahib ji even if they are on their periods... It's more of a social constrain not religious and as women you choose to stand up to them... :) I have a website which has more info ... I cant post it here but can msg u if u like
