Charcuterie Board with Parota and Friends
Ойын-сауық
In this video, a big hefty charcuterie board is made, and wow, the grain is really something!
This project highlights a variety of woodworking tools in use, including a makeshift track saw design that I did on the fly.
Parota is the star, but the costars are doing their job well as supporting cast. Figured Maple, Black Walnut, and Sapele.
I'd love to know what you think of the finished product!
In this Video, I show you the RZ 2.5 Mask. Super nice, reusable, replaceable inner filter, no mask fogging, and comfortable. It's made in America by a company that gives back and cares about your lungs. Maybe most importantly, you get a quality product at a very low cost.
Check it out here: tidd.ly/3oHr5gU

Elegant and stylish. A very handsome piece that would grace any dining table.
Rod, another beautiful work. I hope the recipient of that piece watches this video so they can appreciate the work that went into it. I chuckled as you were working, thinking "is he using my shop when I'm out of town" because we have the same planer, jointer, and drum sander. And, although it didn't show, your dust collector sounds like mine. I've been working over the years to build up my shop with good machines. Here's a piece of advice for possibly younger workers. When I take on a new project at home, I tell the wife "here's what we'll save by me doing it versus hiring someone, but I'll need to buy a new tool for it". The cost is a small percentage of the savings. Plus, the quality is better because I determine when it's "good enough".
Very beautiful sir have a great weekend ✌️

I think that's perhaps the most beautiful woodworking item I've seen on KZread, Rod, and I've seen a lot. The extra banding down the middle really sets it off. I have the advantage of having lived in France for many years and charcuterie is cold cooked and cured meats normally cut very thinly. It's a very skilled job and one who engages in it is a charcutier. All supermarkets have a charcuterie counter but I preferred the family-owned shops where the skills had been handed down through generations. Charcuterie is hugely popular and the board is ideal for slicing and presenting it. The most highly skilled aspect of charcuterie is drying raw ham and slicing it very thinly. A little glass of white chilled wine helps a lot. Cheers. Semper Fi

Wow, Alan, thank you so much! That is a huge compliment and though I feel unworthy of it, I do appreciate it. I've visited France on my travels with the Marines, trained with the regular army as well as the Foreign Legion. I enjoyed all of the above very much, but especially the legion...

I am just a poor West Texas boy and did not know what the heck a charcuterie board is. So I had to look it up. That’s a mighty fine piece of wood you put together with a Southwestern design along the edges. I like it and learned something new in the process. Who sez ya can’t teach an Old Devil Dog new tricks? Good morning, Rod. Gorgeous project for us to witness today. A bunch of steps, thoughts before and during the build along with the enjoyment of the finished piece. The veneer added the detail to set this board apart from many others. Believe I would grab a chair and simply reflect on the beauty this eye catching board. I have used tung oil as a finish on a cutting board and the lady who received it didn't care for the smell. Wondering if that is the reason the orange oil was added. I know your mentioned you were following a procedure used by another craftsman. Thank you, brother. God bless + S/F
@RHumphrey
Жыл бұрын
Good morning, Ray! My nose (on my face mostly for decoration...) didn't pick up on a bad smell, but the orange solvent is nice. It also thins out the oil and allows better penetration. All 100% food safe with a durable quality, which was my goal. Yes, the Wood Whisperer is a channel I follow, Marc Spagnuolo is a gifted craftsman. Thank you and Semper Fi!

@@RHumphrey Thanks. I went to his channel and found the video regarding the orange solvent. By the way, the lady had a great sense of smell because her husband and I couldn't smell the tung oil but she wouldn't let the cutting board on her house.
Awesome can I have it. Lol

Love the finish! Only question is whether the board might be a bit on the heavy side.
As others have said: It's a beautiful board. Very nice wood selection and design. Very nice use of the veneers. And you were dead on about the center accent. The tung oil finish is perfect. Production is good. The board does look a bit heavy to me. How thick did it finish out? Overall you get 👍👍for this project. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

I did show it, bottles and all 😊 Food safe oil, couple coats.
Beautiful work! I'm starting to get wood together to make my first cutting board. How many coats of the finish did you use?
I think it is beautiful. How much did it weigh? It just looks heavy.
@RHumphrey
Жыл бұрын
I didn't weigh it, but it is a hefty one by design. I did choose a lighter in weight exotic wood though, so it wouldn't be like going to the gym to serve up a board of food, lol 😊

@@flopwadwadsworth3059 please feel free to email me at rhumphrey.woodworking@gmail.com to let me know what you're looking for. I rarely do commissions but you never know... I am going to list/relist a variety of items soon, some from previous video projects and some not. Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful! How many layers of oil did you add before the wood said “done”? Does one have to match the wood’s porosity to obtain an even finish? Amen to Romans 10 Verse 9! Our pastor is preaching in Romans right now! God bless you! Thank you for your service! Semper Fi!
@RHumphrey
Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, Ellen! Just two layers did the job. It's good to try and keep the wood of a similar hardness, to keep natural movement in the wood at bay, but I don't really consider the porosity.
