I am studying charcoal making for use in the tropics. My idea is to gather biomass and make charcoal and plow it into poor soil - make 'biochar'. This takes carbon that has been fixed in fast-growing wood and brush and converts it into a non-biodegradable form. It will stay in the soil for centuries before returning to the atmosphere; much better than if the wood had decomposed in the forest within a decade. Thanks for the video; but no turf here; I will have to devise an alternative cover (but I DO have brackens!)

There are many people already making charcoal in the tropics using lowtech traditional methods, you should have a look at those. I've seen quite a few videos on KZread from Southeast Asia, many use a small pit so you could look at doing that. There is also a document from some organisation. (don't think it is the FAO but it could be) showing plans for making a steel kiln for developing countries

Good job but using water isn’t a good idea and that would make the coal with a lower quality... I’m actually using soft sands instead of water and that’s perfectly working well... but it’s a great job and glad to watch it 👏🏼

Now that was a beautiful job. An almost no real lose good work. Covering it with turf kept the burn under control. Very well done. Thank You Loader.

Colliers in the early days would have as many as five of these burns going at once and would stay up for two days putting out flair ups as they burnt

Redy Efendi it’s a pieces of rolled grass... you can just cover it with soils instead of that and it gives the same results, just make sure to cover it well so there’s no oxygen going in.

This was the reason there used to be large animals in the forest , the dence underbrush was managed the braken used , and the ash generated an alkaline soil , but now our water is acidic our soil us acidic , the air has too little carbon dioxide and plants starve while being acidified, and large ruminants are no more ,
