Charcoal Drawing Process Using Liquid Nitram Charcoal. Cesar Santos vlog 095
#charcoal #drawing #nitram #liquidcharcoal
At the classical academy in Florence, Italy, I learned how to use Nitram Charcoal. I could sharpen the sticks of different grades the B, HB and H, giving the necessary range to a fully develop drawing. Recently Nitram Charcoal came up with a Liquid Charcoal that I found useful for this charcoal drawing.

Great video. I love the tip of using the sanding block. Thank you..
Cesar draws so directly, no indecision no halting steps. I imagine Sargent would have a similar approach based on looking at drawings from both artists. The ability to refine to any desired degree gives a lot of freedom to choose their desired approach. Cool video
I am an aspiring caricaturist and I am studying and following your videos and learning tons that I have been applying to my drawing process. Thanks for sharing your gifts. Your ability to capture a likeness is what I am at awe of I watch your process and the way you hold your drawing pencil and just trying that helped me see proportions better.
I like that momentvar 2:26 when you put a smile on her face. With just a few marks she changed from worried to hapoy. Shows just how much pwer art has.
I bought some liquid charcoal because of the last time you used it. Actually an interesting medium to work with . Your work is always amazing and inspiring.
always learn about your videos
Love all you do! 😊 thank you 🙏🏽
U r the best sir
Nitram charcoal is a bit more expensive but is so consistent and is very fine quality. I highly recommend it
Lovely and dedicated work! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! All the best, dear Cesar!
So stoked to see another video!
I've considered using liquid charcoal. This helped me feel more comfortable with the idea. I'm loving the regular uploads. Maybe I'll do some experiments with it in a video soon.🙏🏻
Captivating!
So excited for this one! Can’t wait to watch it 🔥
Absolutely amazing.... 👍
Lovely as always .
Love it man! I am going to need to dig out my charcoal this weekend.
Thanks so much for sharing these techniques
So cool to see you made some expressive portrait ! Remind me Casey Baugh charcoal portrait, love it !
Good job 👍👍👍👍👍
Another great video! Could you talk more about using a sanding block? How does this compare to a stump or tortillon? Can you lift out highlights with an eraser in an area you have sanded?
Very good!!!!
It motivates and demoralizes me at the same time. You're too good... I'm 17 and I hope I can be on your level one day.

Corona Vitae check out Cesar’s sketchbook vlogs. He does one where he shows work from when he is in high school. The cover of that book has a self portrait taken from a driver license photo, that should help you find the right vlog. Anyway, the point is his work in high school was no better than most teenagers. He simply put in a ton of effort and learned excellent technique as well as studied and made copies of master works. I am sure you can achieve similar level of proficiency given commitment and practice. Good luck , cheers
Good morning!!!!!
Maéstro ojala pudiese ser uno de sus amigos contigo aprendería un monton también pinto y solo de seguirlo e omprendido muchas cosas en la figura humana
This is fantastic I've been looking into the liquid charcoal. I've been using a mix of charcoal powder and acetone to create a 'paint' for my charcoal drawings

@Brixton Alijah You are welcome =)
I can see how Sargent has influenced your style in this one, specifically right before the liquid charcoal step, in the hard lines of her clothing and shoulder facing the light, while her face looks so real she breathes. I didn’t know about the sanding block technique, but it makes sense and I can’t wait to try it and see the result. Thanks for the lesson, she’s beautiful. Peace.

Kev Quaid excellent observation. Agree there is an homage to Sargent in this one I think too. BTW there is a paperback book of Sargent drawings that is available, inexpensive and well worth it if you’re interested. I got it off Amazon

Hey, Milwaukee Brewers!!! :) Cesar, if you are ever able to make it to Milwaukee after all this is over, you should check out the Milwaukee art museum! It's a really cool-looking building and there's some nice art there too for inspiration.
Hey First!
Did you take measurements like we humans do? Or you just draw....Great Art
If you could put up the values of the nitram charcoal you use on screen, it would be 1000× helpful. Thank you Cesar!
hi cesar, how long do you wait to close your sketchbook after an oil study , its possible to close it on the same day
Does the liquid charcoal erase well after it dries?
Este video lo tiene en español

jetsonjoe I believe he used it in the beginning a bit and at the end
So basically liquid charcoal is just for back grounds?
hahha of this piss right here :D legend
Can somebody who already tried that medium liquid charcoal, is like Russian sauce?

Lu Vill it seems more like a gauche. Only seen one person use Russian sauce before (in Landscape artist of the Year) to me it seems like that.
I came to hear him rap at the end of video.....
Is anyone else finding that the Nitram charcoal looks a little brown on some paper?
