Chapter Three | The Secret Lake | Reflections | Volume Two

Спорт

Angling means different things to different people, some love the solitude of a large windswept pit, others prefer the company of friends on smaller, more intimate venues. It is the latter that we focus on in this stunning piece, as we follow Martin Bowler along with his friend, and carp angling legend, Chris Yates.
Martin and Chris have a long-standing relationship, and even though they are very different people, they get on so very well. Although they don’t fish together often; each trip is special and this one was no different.
The intrepid piscators target a secret estate lake surrounded by dense woodland, populated by some magnificent and rather old carp. Porcupine quill floats, split cane rods and centerpins; Chris’ gear hasn’t changed. Simply, sit back, and enjoy this wonderful story unfold….

Not a film about baits, or tackle, or rigs or techniques but a film about fishing and better still, friends fishing and the magic that brings them together. And what made it extra special was the fact that it made me feel like i was a third friend there with them, holding the camera perhaps. Simply magical.

Many years ago when I first began carp fishing I sat under in a swim under an oak tree little realising I was in the swim that Chris Yates caught his very first twenty from. Ten years later I was fortunate to fish Redmire Pool and sat in the very swim Dick Walker captured Clarissa, and I managed in under five minutes to catch a twenty two pound linear mirror. Upon returning home I discovered it was a fish captured by Jack Hilton some twenty years previously. I feel very privileged to have trod in the footsteps of such iconic anglers. Brilliant video that takes me back.

Chris is a little older than me, but I've been fishing for 60 years. This video takes me back to my childhood, and my fishing guru, old Sam. Sam was in his late 70's and me just an irritating kid when we first met. He took me under his "Wing" and taught me how to fish, I can still hear old Sam now, puffing away on his pipe, and saying, "Dear oh dear, oh dear" behind me as I made my next silly schoolboy mistake, lol. We fished with cane rods and centre pins, slept under the stars, relaxed and enjoyed times that will never be repeated again. Bless you Chris and young Martin for reminding me of my childhood days.

Stunning its the reason i started carp fish back when you could have a pond or lake to yourself as a carp angler. Still love my fishing but long for peacefully quiet lake . Theres still a few secrets maybe not massive but plenty of peace and quiet and stunning fish. Chris Yates all around gent old school special guy. Find peace in bass fishing and be anonymous!!!

Thankyou for this, it brought back so many happy memories. This is true fishing to me. I just wish there were more lakes like this still around for my own children to enjoy.

Thank you Sticky Baits that was an awesome fishing program, no mentions of the “in” rig or latest hook length & bait, just 2 mates enjoying a fishing session.... Magical 👍

Chris Yates maybe an old man, his tackle is old, but who has a mind and a way of using the way of a master, loved this so so much.

I have the most beautiful of pastimes, fishing.... I seen many beautiful fish, seen wildlife most folks never see. I've fought to keep lakes and rivers clean. And best of all, most of the memorable days of my life have been fishing. I must do more..

Brilliant film which made me smile all the way through, we should all take a step back and look at the Chris Yates approach to fishing/life he's blissfully unaware of the modern day carp rat race, a true gentleman and legend.

This is a film I keep coming back to, it keeps me grounded. Fishing as it should be. This and The Lost World of Mr Hardy have to be two of the best fishing videos ever made. Absolutely beautiful.
