Chapter Three | The Secret Lake | Reflections | Volume Two
Спорт
Angling means different things to different people, some love the solitude of a large windswept pit, others prefer the company of friends on smaller, more intimate venues. It is the latter that we focus on in this stunning piece, as we follow Martin Bowler along with his friend, and carp angling legend, Chris Yates.
Martin and Chris have a long-standing relationship, and even though they are very different people, they get on so very well. Although they don’t fish together often; each trip is special and this one was no different.
The intrepid piscators target a secret estate lake surrounded by dense woodland, populated by some magnificent and rather old carp. Porcupine quill floats, split cane rods and centerpins; Chris’ gear hasn’t changed. Simply, sit back, and enjoy this wonderful story unfold….

Not a film about baits, or tackle, or rigs or techniques but a film about fishing and better still, friends fishing and the magic that brings them together. And what made it extra special was the fact that it made me feel like i was a third friend there with them, holding the camera perhaps. Simply magical.

Chris is truly the "God Father" of British fishing and the reason I wet a line to this day an absolute legend and I think in time Martin will become as legendry as the gentleman angler Chris yates.

Its quite amazing, I get so emotional watching Chris catch on his vintage tackle. The man is a legend in his own lifetime and its a great pleasure to watch him fish. Makes me remember my youth
How pretty is that! Not carping, not fishing, just life Jim - but not as we know it! Outdoors, watching the stars come out, bit of rain, and that old battered tilley kettle with half a cake! Lovely, just lovely, thank you so much fellas!
Possibly the best angling film for 30 years, this is one I'll come back to again and again. Thank you
Sat behind my freespirit rods & delkim alarms I realised I wasn’t having fun anymore. That was four years ago. But this has stirred something inside of me! When you have caught countless 30lb plus carp you realise it’s not what you catch but how you catch them that really counts!
This is what life is all about, the peace, the quiet and good company - lovely.

A pleasure to see Chris Yates Back in Action. One of the best carp videos I've watched in a long time.
I always enjoy watching these Chris Yates videos. He sums up for me what fishing is really all about. It's so much more than just clocking up monster fish. It's the connection with nature and being truly present in a beautiful location and all the relaxation and inner peace that brings. I started fishing when I was a teen to escape a shit childhood and it worked a treat !
This film is beautiful in every way I have watched it so many times and I never get bored off it true carp fishing before it all become bout money takes me back to the days as a kid wear I used to learn from the old boys round the lake care free just the lake rod and you and tea of course. that magical connection with just you and the fishing I think this is something we all need to pass on and stop forgetting we’re we come from life is short and children are the next generation of anglers wouldnt it be magical if thay were like Martian and Chris. Off for tea and cake and spot of fishing:)
“It’s only through the losses we can truly appreciate the special catches” a metaphor for life and the sole reason we keep going back to the bank year after year. Amazing film making, beautiful, funny and endearing well done to all involved and thank you for sharing.

Friends enjoying a day fishing 🎣 that’s what it’s all about! Sharing fantastic times ? Magic moments 😉Wonderful stuff!
That is the essence of true angling , watching that float twitch and then sail away beats a bite alarm going off any day . Truly majestic .
Now that is how to make a fishing film. Thank you for sharing it.
That's the real part of fishing, you come nearlest to the nature. For me the best art of catch carp. Iam German fisher, but I love the english mentality of fishing. Thanks 😉👍
The joy of small things- the delight of a float sinking, or the bubbles around the float….
Words can't describe how happy I am to see Chris on the bank again, he is the reason I started carp fishing watching Passion for angling, reading his books and having the pleasure of meeting and taking to him at one of his book signings. Thanks for posting this vid it has made my day, week, month and shows what fishing is all about. Great pairing Martin and Chris wish you could do more As he wrote in my book, "Gareth - cast for the dream" 🙂👍
One of the best films I’ve seen for a long while , the essence of why we go fishing , beats a how to video any day.. Two anglers I could watch all day long. Can’t wait for the next one ! Cheers Guys.
What a wonderful film, thank you.
Chris is a purist in every way and epitomises the real art of angling, making it almost like a spiritual experience. A thing of rare beauty. we all owe Chris for bringing carp fishing into the concience of anglers back in the day.
This has to be the best fishing flick I have ever seen. Just magic.
All you other company;s ,That make Videos, please please please watch this. This is the very reason we all love this sport.Tranquil relaxing and Joyfull to behold. No urban beat music as you try to sell us the next wonder product.just pure and utter fishing at its very best.No monsters No all singing all dancing wonder rig.I lost myself for an hour with this video.A throwback to a passion for angling kinda way.To all involved this has to be the best video i have watched on You-tube for a long long Time.Thank-you regards Mikey.
Best film I’ve ever watched. Chris Yates what a legend!
Doesn’t get much better than this, the essence of angling 👌🏻
This is like a breath of fresh air in the world of carp fishing videos, Mr Yates, what a legend 👍🏻
Great film once again and yet it seems funny how many of the companies responsible for the commercialisation of carp angling are presenting a lost and romantic vision of what we had before it was all about the money.
Chris is such a humble gentlemen, id give anything to fish a night with him drinking tea and just listening to story after story.
I have had the pleasure of reading Chris Yate's books, this is the first film I have watched. His demeanour, his angling philosophy is a joy to behold in a world that got itself into one bug rush.
Great film no drum n bass and no loud obnoxious shouting

This is one of the most moving fishing films I have seen in a long time. To see the joy it still gives Yates is amazing. Reminds me of the type of filming that made me get into Angling in the first place. Passion for Angling, catching the impossible. Amazing. Well done sticky for making this happen.
The best carp video made for many years as someone said previously this takes me back to the passion for angling series, the main reason I started carp fishing; Chris Yates is a legend! Everyone who likes carp fishing should read ‘casting at the sun”.
Whoever made this deserves an Oscar.

Carp record holder 51lb 8oz in 1980 Chris Yates Redmire. What a character!
A massive round of applause to whoever was involved in filming, producing, this gem of a fishing adventure . Almost as good as being there myself.
Float fishing for Carp: how it should be. Yates a Legend.
You don’t even need to like fishing to enjoy this . Chris's enthusiasm, exuberance , and ability to describe the experience perfectly is captivating and hypnotic. He really should be snapped up to narrate absolutely everything .
BIG UPS to the videographers on these pieces man, proper visual novels these!
Many years ago when I first began carp fishing I sat under in a swim under an oak tree little realising I was in the swim that Chris Yates caught his very first twenty from. Ten years later I was fortunate to fish Redmire Pool and sat in the very swim Dick Walker captured Clarissa, and I managed in under five minutes to catch a twenty two pound linear mirror. Upon returning home I discovered it was a fish captured by Jack Hilton some twenty years previously. I feel very privileged to have trod in the footsteps of such iconic anglers. Brilliant video that takes me back.
Wonderful. Made my day and set me up nicely for the rest of the season... Beautiful photography. Well done.
Chris is such a legend. Met him over 15yrs ago, such a gentleman and an inspiration. His books are legendary and so is the way he fishes. Proper angling.
He still has the look in his eye when he let conker go proper angling !!! Love it !!!!
Really enjoyed how this made the notion of 3.5lb t/c rods, 4oz leads and 10+kg of bait look mildly ridiculous. Of course that has it's place in modern angling, but this really boiled the best things about angling to its essence - friendship, solitude, nature and, of course...big carp :)
im 26 years old just started watching Chris and he has really taken me back to why i actually love fishing.
Sticky Baits, you have created a fantastic episode and really shows the Beauty of fishing. I could listen to Chris Yates all day. Can’t wait to sit and watch it with my kids. Hope there’s a part 2 ????
I do love the attitude of this branch of the sport, I am a fly fisher, cousins of the same family but less contemplative. These boys have a great attitude. But when I go fishing I always say “good morning Izaac” because he used to fish the trout stream I go to. Strength to your arm lads. Conserve all our waters.
A year ago I watched this clip and I'm back again one of the best I've seen 👌
Chris never disappoints his way of fishing is simple but very masterful. A TRUE fishing legend and a great man. Martin is clearly very talented and in my opinion an angler who can pick up the baton from Chris in the years to come.
Dont get much better than this reminds me of being a kid and watching a passion for angling!! Carp vids dont get made like this anymore.. an absolute treat well done fellas
Heaven. More Chris pleaseeeeeeee!!!!
No one legend but two !! , I'm a match angler and even I was glued to this. Well done sticky baits and what I would give to ee Chris fishing at Martin's place in Thailand 🤗💯 , now that would be a viral video thanks again Andy watts.
Stunning, truely stunning. 10/10 Sticky baits. Made in the style of A Passion for Angling this is a glorious return to carp fishing videos of old and a refreshing change to modern style of videos.
Well done! Beautifully filmed and captured chris how we all remember him from the past and want to see him in the future
Could watch n listen to Chris all day. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Took me a while to watch this, but what a great video, well worth watching for those who have spent many hours creeping around and fishing places others just don't think about.
Phenomenal 🎣🙏
Greetings from Ukraine. Film is awesome. Your nature is very beautiful... like in my memories from my childhood in Ukraine))) Keep doing great videos 👍
Chris is a little older than me, but I've been fishing for 60 years. This video takes me back to my childhood, and my fishing guru, old Sam. Sam was in his late 70's and me just an irritating kid when we first met. He took me under his "Wing" and taught me how to fish, I can still hear old Sam now, puffing away on his pipe, and saying, "Dear oh dear, oh dear" behind me as I made my next silly schoolboy mistake, lol. We fished with cane rods and centre pins, slept under the stars, relaxed and enjoyed times that will never be repeated again. Bless you Chris and young Martin for reminding me of my childhood days.
Exquisite filmmaking. Thank you 🎣
Simply Wonderful. 🎣🌿💚

THUMBS UP Best carp film since a passion for angling. Chris Yates you have inspired a nation of anglers and you continue to do so. Thank you for showing us how special this sport is. You are a legend.
Any fishing content with Chris is going to be gold. Yes he’s getting old, as are all of us, but he still retains that enthusiasm and tradition for his quarry. What a legend!
How truly amazing. Can’t believe I haven’t watched this before. Superb. Chris is what carping needs more of.
Stunning its the reason i started carp fish back when you could have a pond or lake to yourself as a carp angler. Still love my fishing but long for peacefully quiet lake . Theres still a few secrets maybe not massive but plenty of peace and quiet and stunning fish. Chris Yates all around gent old school special guy. Find peace in bass fishing and be anonymous!!!
Thankyou for this, it brought back so many happy memories. This is true fishing to me. I just wish there were more lakes like this still around for my own children to enjoy.
Thank you Sticky Baits that was an awesome fishing program, no mentions of the “in” rig or latest hook length & bait, just 2 mates enjoying a fishing session.... Magical 👍
I would buy Sticky bait purely to help finance productions like this 👍 Superb.
Chris Yates maybe an old man, his tackle is old, but who has a mind and a way of using the way of a master, loved this so so much.
Brilliant! Chris's way is so down to earth, it seems the right way. A joy to watch.
I have the most beautiful of pastimes, fishing.... I seen many beautiful fish, seen wildlife most folks never see. I've fought to keep lakes and rivers clean. And best of all, most of the memorable days of my life have been fishing. I must do more..
What a beautiful piece of film and a refreshing and welcomed change, makes you appreciate just being outside. Poetry x
Absolutely love this, beautifully filmed, really captured Chris's emotions after the release of conker. Would love to see more of Chris showing his passion on screen once more.
Loved watching this video,Chris Yates has a gift of reminding us the true magic of what inspired us to take up angling, the boyish excitement is rekindled when you watch his videos. Long may they continue!
Just like the old days, passion for angling is back. Chris's attitude to fishing and life never ceases to amaze....loved it
Brilliant film which made me smile all the way through, we should all take a step back and look at the Chris Yates approach to fishing/life he's blissfully unaware of the modern day carp rat race, a true gentleman and legend.
Legends pure and simple. They have the essence of fishing no ego's promoting products just fishing relaxing and good banter.Excellent.
