I use the foundations in Microbiology by Talaro, 9th edition. You can use an earlier edition with the videos, I know it is available on Amazon. Good luck and thanks for watching. Dr. Jim

Edward Kerschen, I’m here because of my curiosity of viruses from the social distancing strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m an illustrator and just getting my head around the notion of its size, structure and realizing just how fascinating viruses are as a phenomena of evolutionary biology. It’s hard believe that they aren’t alive and don’t have a selfish hive motive to strategically reproduce but I guess that is a philosophical question more than a life sciences one. Anyway, truly fascinating and thanks for sharing the video. BTW you look like Phil Anselmo, lead singer of Pantera! 🦠🤟🏼🧬🎸

I just want to thank you Professor Kerschen. These videos will help me so much this semester, because my professor only reads the power points, instead of explaining what she's teaching. I understand so much more watching your videos. No need to be sorry for the length of the videos, because they're really informative and helpful. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your help. I am using this to help me prepare for the microbiology course I will be taking in the spring. I really hope by the time I get there, it will simply be a rehashing of things I already know, which will enable me to take a deeper dive into the concepts.

My micro class was switched to online learning due to covid-19 and social distancing. My teacher is very much over the virtual experience which unfortunately means that "we" students don't get much fundamental teaching of microbiology. This video was tremendously helpful in explaining what I think we would typically learn in a class setting.

Greetings from Sardinia (Italy), I have not yet seen the whole video ... I would like to know what are the scientific data that allow you to say, for example, about the membrane (Enveloped Virus), "acquired when the virus leaves the host cell". Have you seen movies? Have you read books? Did you hear it from someone who scanned viruses? Sorry for my naivety and cheeky but for me it is essential. Thanks anyway, yours, for the moment, is one of the best videos! Hi

I didn't get the uncoating part. So the difference between bacteriophages and animal viruses is, that the there's after the penetration the additional step of uncoating? Besides that, I get the difference between "Penetration" and "Uncoating"; however, I don't see the difference between what these terms describe. Would be awesome if you explained this once again, e.g. a quick video showing these two steps would help a lot. EDIT: Oh, should've waited two minutes. Got it know, thanks!

+111276244488531458808 They might have formed naturally by random action. But they're not saying. The DNA or RNA might form naturally, then other stuff might attach to that. There probably is electrical attachment involved.
