I love the idea the that the writers of this show thought the audience for a Tom Clancy show would want the theoretical "good guy" opposition party leader in Venezuela to be a leftist college professor when the biggest fans of his books are owners of a drywall company who protested Reagan for not selling the Contras white phosphorus.

All those OG Clancy fans are dead. Besides thats not the purpose of the show or the intended audience. The audience for this show are the people that vote and don't reflexesively suoport the MIC, but who can still be convinced into supporting the MIC by a culture permeated with shows, movies, books, news segments and articles that give off the vibe that the CIA isn't full of former DevGru psychos run by a board of corporations for the purpose of seizing gas, oil and lithium etc. Jack Ryan is there to tell those people that the CIA is actually run by principled professionals in cardigans and lanyards that want to stop terrorism and nothing more.

How outdated this looks just a couple years later now that Brandon is making good with Maduro because he needs oil, after the Ukraine thing. It's particularly funny how newspapers in my country, that literally get their talking points directly from the US embassy, suddenly stopped calling Maduro "dictator" and he's now "president".

The best part of all of this is that it came out at the same time as the US attempting to coup the Venezuelan presidency, and failing at it in the most public fashion imaginable. Contrast Krasinki cosplaying as an operator with the actual operators pissing themselves on a dock while being detained by Venezuelan security

Also, the entire political situation seems almost completely cribbed from Peru(except the far right presidential candidate is like a general in stead of the daughter of a former tinpot dictator). I mean, the Peruvian president is even a former teacher. Though, something(read: all of US history in Latin America) tells me a real Jack Ryan would've likely been quite unhappy with the leftist former teacher becoming president.
