Chapo's Matt and Felix Review The X Files (Time for my Stories)

Time for my Stories is a podcast about analyzing TV shows hosted by Matt Christman and Felix Biederman from Chapo Trap House. Previously only available through a now-defunct app, this show is now at risk of becoming lost media.
In one of the longest-running science fiction series in network TV history, FBI special agents investigate unexplained, mind-bending cases known as "X-Files." Though the government is convinced that the outlandish reports are false, conspiracy theorist Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and realist Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), for most of the series, stop at nothing to prove that "the truth is out there." Series creator Chris Carter also serves as executive producer of the thrilling pop-culture phenomenon.

Me too. I try to listen to Chapo and it just lacks the anti-capitalist analysis and humor I need. Like Stav leaving cumtown. Entropy.

Love the part of the show where the syndicate gaslights Mulder into thinking the aliens are a cover for the Military Industrial Complex.

The X-files as about cops but not being copaganda "...it never shows them finding a mentally challenged alien and tricking him into probing someone..." I miss Matt's wit so much these days

I wouldn't say shipping started with X-Files. That sort of thing was happening a lot in the Star Trek Fandom way back in the early '70s in fanzines.

Very good point that I didn’t consider. I would wager that shipping as we currently conceive of it very possibly grew into what it is now starting around the time of the X-Files, if I were to adapt what is said in the ep. a little bit

My favorite episode was the cops crossover invisible/shapeshifting fear monster episode, or at least that's the one that stuck with me from when it first aired to this day

Probably because I was going through a really bad time in my life as well as something that one might classify as a minor depressive episode (this was mid Nov. of 2021), but The Postmodern Prometheus episode really stuck with me, among other episodes as well

Agents of Shield was genuinely great, coming from a guy who always thought the MCU was just a constant 6/10 after phase 1, except for Ant-Man, which is just a late phase 1 movie. I admit that the first half of season 1 was slow, episodic, monster-of-the-week 6/10 material, but the show ramped up quickly in the second half, and kept up the momentum through the rest of the series. It was a big shame that the show was not cannon in the movies, but I don’t mind since what happened in the movies often trickled down into the show.

i was pretty surprised by how badly the x files dated. it didn’t seem this unmatchably predictable and dull at the time, but i guess it probably was
