On behalf of all Eritreans I'd like to thank all cycling fans for the support and the warm welcome that you showed to our rising star Biniam Girmay.❤❤ Congrats Jasper on your first clean win🎉 Further: Eritrean-cycling has more than a century history, and cycling is so popular in the country and one can even say the people breath and dream cycling for a long time, and Eritrean cyclists have dominated African cycling for a while. So, it's no surprise to see a strong contender emerges from this small country. So, all cycling fans throughout the world brace yourselves for more talents from this country. Eritrea in Africa, just like Colombia in South America will supply stars for the years to come. Love to all❤❤

Human rights organisations all say Eritrea has terrible human rights on the same level as North Korea. The whole country is a giant prison and young men have to endure decades of forced military service. The President has been in office for 30 yrs and never held an election and he is an absolute dictator. The only people who can leave and come back freely from Eritrea are the ruling elite and their families. Biniam Girmay is a friend of the President who holds rallies for him in Asmara. Does Biniam approve of the lack of even basic human rights in Eritrea? In this TDF and at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games there are no individual Russian cyclists under a RussIan flag and no Russian team because of that country’s invasion of Ukraine and this a correct action by the world Why is an Eritrean allowed to enter under an Eritrean flag?

They are doing a 'lead out' for the sprinter on the team (a lead out is where you ride really hard on the front to give a slipstream to your sprinter and also keep the pace so high that nobody can attack on the group). When they stop they are usually completely worn out, but also they may meander so other competitors have to go around and waste more energy or take a longer line.

Could be. I heard the TdF-commentators (Danish Eurosport) tell that the pros have started to experiment with the length of the pedal-arms, and the trend seems to be towards shorter arms. Traditionally, you have not experimented much with that (as an amature!), so I guess it's a relatively new issue. Back in time, I only remember having heard about it used (short arms) for criteriums (street races), where you corner a lot, so short arms are an advantage. This new trend is based on something else I'm sure, so I can only speculate.

Cavendish was given the 35th sprint win by a peloton gentleman's agreement on Stage 5. Cavendish has not been given anymore free sprints after that and is not in competition when a real sprint occurs. His team had to attend to him in mountains. Pathetic stat padding.

@@ripgeorgie3156 Again you have yet to mention why Cavendish is not 1 to 5th place in all the other sprints in this TDF. Cavendish was 116 place in stage 13. Why wouldn't he try for another win. Because he can't and the field will not give out anymore free wins. Because he was given the 35th win. He should have been at the front of the pack before the crash like all the other sprinters. It's okay WNBA Angle Reese was given a free double double to keep her streak alive.
