I smelled like a skunk at school all day.
In this day in the life of a high school teacher vlog, anything that could go wrong in the morning did. Watch me get through a stressful morning, but still be able to share with you some of my routines. It was a chaotic day, mostly because I had a major headache due to a skunk spraying my dog in the morning. I teach 11th grade English and an elective course. My blocks are 80 minutes long.
My name is Alexa Borota and I am a high school English teacher; I also taught middle school English Language Arts. I teacher in a title l school in central New Jersey.
My goals are to share tips and insight about teaching in an entertaining way. Teaching is less stressful when we are supporting each other and sharing' our best practices. When I was a new teacher, I wanted to know how other teachers were delivering lessons and what their classroom management routines were. I hope my content is helpful for both new and seasoned teachers.

I love it so much. It’s a course where we discuss what it means to be a girl and study writing/other from various girls (real and fictitious). We analyze their experiences to promote social change (#metoo). At the moment, we are reading excerpts from Farrah Ahmedi, a refugee of Afghanistan. We are comparing her childhood experience and ptsd to girls in our community.

@@teachingwithalexa this is incredible. Did you present this as a course you’d like to teach or did your district decide this was a course to offer?
Ow you are too lucky working till 2 or 2:30 we never work less than 4:30 and those teachers who need to wait for the shuttles they actually have to stay till 5! (I work in Istanbul)

What time do you start? That is SO late! Our day begins at 7:30am, which many argue is too early. I like early because we get done midday. Everyone has their own opinion about it.

@@teachingwithalexa We usually start at 8:40 my personal opinion is that it is too long. The last 2 hours are usually the hardest for me. Classroom management becomes impossible in those 2 last hours…
