You seem to think eldrich means "lovecraftian." While it was brought into popular usage by Lovecraft's work, it actually just refers to something strange or unnatural which I think fits Tzeench the most because of how unknowable he is. Nurgle fits the aesthetics of the Cthulu Mythos better but is a lot easier to understand.

I think what Bricky is trying to say about the Chaos Gods is that if they are the manifestation of the psyche of the souls that go to the warp then they also originally would have been all aspects of virtues at the same time, But if you send horrific broken souls for millions of years and that power is easy then why take the hard path. Some may believe that finality will give them peace and death and rot are inevitable so they may look at Nurgle for that hope of ending, until the deal is made many will know nothing of the price they will eventually pay while others do. works the same with the others in the minds of millions.

I will say... I think Bricky's take on the chaos not being evil innately is on point. They aren't evil. They are what they eat. And in Warhammer, they are fed 'War' 'Death' 'Agony' and 'Chaotic Conspiracy'. They aren't fed 'Justice' 'Peace' 'Love' and 'Hope', or at least not enough of it compared to the rest. And in regard to them 'not taking it', it's less that they don't take it and more that there isn't enough of it to influence them. If you make a chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie, and only give it a single chocolate chip, it's just an oatmeal cookie. If there was a 'hope' event that overturned the amount of entropy, knowledge, and such in the universe (which at this point is impossible) it would change Tzeentch's manifestation on a fundamental level. If the universe came to complete peace, difficult to impossible because chaos demons and daemons exist, Nurgle would change in the same way. It's the same story of 'you are what you eat'. If there is more good traits in the warp, the Chaos Gods change. Though the minor demons would probably explode in numbers since those parts of them would be shed in the process, and that sounds like a fantastic campaign setting in retrospect.

To be fair Tzeentch does have the most lovcraftian imagery of any of them. He doesn't necessarily fit the theme overall, but he does have the writhing amorphous flesh-ish bits down.

What is ussualy meant with non-euclidean is that it doesn't follow normal geometry rules. Classic example is if you imagine a room with 2 doors that clearly goes in to the same space but they have 2 different rooms behind them.

Best description I "witnessed" was from a dream of mine where there is a column in an alcove with about 3 feet between the column and a wall. If you walk around the column 360 degrees you end up in a different room. Walk back the other direction, you go back to the first room. Both rooms "should" be overlapping the same space, but they don't. The alcove literally acted like a flat staircase.

You can go all the way back to _The Call of Cthulhu_ for examples of this: "Parker slipped as the other three were plunging frenziedly over endless vistas of green-crusted rock to the boat, and Johansen swears he was swallowed up by an angle of masonry which shouldn’t have been there; an angle which was acute, but behaved as if it were obtuse."

To be fair to Bricky, this is meant to be a generalization of the factions and the absolute bare bones of info needed to somewhat understand 40k. The niddy griddy of characteristics don't need to known. Great reaction, love your energy for the info and universe!!!

So fun fact about the Chaos gods: originally they actually did have associations with elements, specifically fire, earth, air, and water. Those were Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeench, and Slanesh respectively. They even had mottos and banners that reflected this. Khorne's fury burns like uncontrollable fire, Nurgle ensures all life dies, rots, and returns to the earth, Tzeench is ever-changing and formless like the air itself, and Slanesh is the beguiling waters. Kinda neat, but also completely forgotten by GW.

I guess Arier doesn't know his mathematics because Non-euclidean geometries are meant to hurt your brain, quite adpt for the realm of chaos.

Non-Euclidean geometry is geometry done on a 3D curved surface. Lovecraft was someone who had such a weak constitution that things such as geometry used in architecture made him ill. Of course the same can be said about people of non-English descent, deep water and anything more than 5 miles from his home in Providence, RI.

To be fair to Bricky about the gods, this is a very begginer friendly video. And yeah, I wish the Nids, my favorite faction, got what they deserved. The entire galaxy on a silver platter.

In regard to the non-euclidean comment, at least in circles that I as a fan of the Cthulhu mythos have been in, the term isn't often used, at least not without proper context. After all, since non-euclidean geometry is just geometry on an axis (meaning more curved/concave/convex shapes), it's usually used to describe objects and the sort that seem warped compared to normal architecture/objects. Sure, it can easily be misinterpreted as the classic Lovecraftian feel of "beyond human understanding," but most writers that know what they're doing use the term properly and readers simply misunderstand. Also, "eldritch" just means "weird and sinister," So Tzeentch being all about trickery, deceit, and double-crossing, as well as having a domain that is described as maddeningly complex, definitely fits the term.

i gotta agree with Bricky here; chaos is more complicated and alien than you give it credit. A problem with chaos is that they would destroy everything that lived if allowed to, just by their nature. Think of it like a fire. Unregulated, the fire would spread burning everything until there is nothing left to burn and it would die too. Nurgle here is unique in this aspect, as the God of Entropy, as he works towards the heat death of the universe. Then it would only be him left, free to create a new universe in his image.

I mean I think you're missing the point with Slaanesh? Everything always starts in moderation. But there is always a slippery slope that can lead to excess, so it is very reasonable to see everything as being linked. Someone eats good food, Slaanesh tempts them to eat more and more until they become obsessive and they indulge in excess.. but the start was there by eating something that tastes really good. For some people, that first bite could be enough to get Slaanesh's hooks into them.

If i recall correctly Nurgle represents the life cycle, a corrupted and twisted version of but the life cycle nevertheless. So wouldn't that mean that he does represent death but more than that since death is just one part of the cycle of life and from the corpses of the fallen new life arises, which leads to your point about rebirth?

Millions of years. The eldar were around for millions of years and there were at least tiny traces of what would become slaanesh for pretty much all of that time. It just got stronger as it went on.

Which makes it really weird that slaanesh's development parallels the emperor's development as a god being shown in the horus heresy. But then the tau god just jumps into play fully formed almost immediately (at least in a time frame comparison). 🤔

Yes and no. Yes that the Cenobutes are all about sensations to such extremes that pain is indecipherable from pleasure. No because they're about order and rigid structure. Their god, Leviathan, is a god of sensation and a god of regimented order.

@@oldeskul👍 the first two movies the cenobites are more ordered and have a rigid structure yes but when you get to the third movie and on their god Leviathan is mostly out of the picture and is a nonentity and the cenobites are a lot more like demons/worshipers/haemonculi. the newest Hellraiser (2022) Leviathan is back with a more prominent role in the movie true. i am just going by the movies between the third and tenth🤔

Then there was the first reboot, which was nothing more than gross-out horror. The Hulu reboot was okay, even if it did stray into slasher and supernatural mystery territory a bit too much.

Huh. I didn't realize khorne had his honor toned down. That's actually disappointing. My favorite 40k fanfiction played into that, not actually painting him as honorable in a human sense of the word persay, but giving him a unique outlook compared to the others since having an "honesty" aspect made him a little more saneish compared to the others. Not a huge difference but it did make for an interesting contrast when chaos was interacting with one particular faction. And it also made him uniquely dangerous to that faction as well, because his philosophy seemed less hypocritical to them.

I probably should have added that it heavily depends on the writer. And a Dan Abnet book, Khorne would probably be a whole lot more honorable while also being irredeemably hypocritical with another writer. 😅

Hard agree on Nurgle. Going back to my favorite fanfic again. There was a excellent description of nurgle in one chapter. Saying that nurgle claimed to be the incarnation of the natural order but that the ordered cycle of life and death was anathema to chaos and that Nurgle's creations were unnatural amalgams that made a mockery of both sides of that coin. Because they rot and decay but they never die, and their remains do not nourish new life, but only more pestilence.

When I think eldrich I think vast, unknowable, incomprehensible, and you never truly get the full picture. I think that fits Tzeench pretty good.

I think the point Bricky is trying to make that is being missed is that the chaos gods having good aspects with the bad us that it's all-encompassing. Emphasis in the 'all'. There is no alternative assignment to the good, if it has to go somewhere, it goes with one if them, lumped in with the bad. If they are big E evil, they are also big G good, which is clearly not the case. Good and Evil are subjective, the chaos gods are well outside that, likely why there's an argument that they are neither. They just are.

There is a theory that Khorne has an issue with sorcery not psykers, especially if they use their power to punch a hole into a guy. Regardless the good of chaos is just icing to make it look good. Like giving the first one free.

I think the Chaos gods are more abstract than we think.

Classic satan is a poor choice of phrase but I think he meant that Khorne daemons look most like classic demons.

I would Love to see some of the more detailed models recast in multi-type silicone, give their armor flex, the skin texture, some translucency/transparency… better break resistance…

As much as i love Warahmmer its my favorite universe ther is.I found difficult to really combine book lore and wargaming lore. Lets be frank, a novel isnt gonna look good when the main focus is a giant space battle between the world eater and a splint of the indomitus crusade.Meanwhile Narrative campaign or crusades book seem to point to canonical events Nowadays. and with how non chronologically novels books are (except the horus heresy saga), it become a lot to digest and untangle everything.For me if you want to learn and understand more of the character go read the novels.If you want to be more on time with major events now go look at the fluff or lore behind every sourcebook of edition codexes and addition content. Ie ark of omens , Gathering storms etc.But thats if you consider those books canon.
