This is Gregorian Chant style.
Hildegarde von Bingen is a saint. She was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict because of her extensive writings apart from her music, which is also extensive. She wrote books of devotional exercises for the convent that she supervised, and in addition, she wrote books on the healing powers of plants from her botanic studies. She was a gem of learning in the so-called Dark Ages.

J Zannieri not really. It was the best time of knowledge for everyone who wanted to know. But the mean people of the time as always destroyed everything. The irish monks kept all that knowledge through time.

@@marietteestabrook4098 I suspect that she initially wrote for an alto, but since Chanticleer are a male group, they subbed in a countertenor to perform the alto role

I do hear a slight fluctuation at 2:51 in the bass, but overall I agree it's an impressive execution.
I've never heard about Hildegard before this week. I read a little bit about her these days during one of my university classes. Now I am a new fan! Her music is fantastic!!!!
Oh my lord 😢 that's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
As incredible as this sounds to us, imagine you are the singer, as the notes pass through your body upon creation. Then you experience directly the reverberation, along with those of your comrades. Transcendent.

She was a rare human being, who was political, spiritual, intellectual, curious, supremely musical, shunned possessions, and was most importantly, a record keeper. Assigning the label of intelligent to an individual that does not write stuff down, can be called into question.
Saint Hildegard would have been pleased, this is pure perfection! Thank you! ♥

I also. The interpretation is so beautiful, it moves me to such an extent that it cannot be expressed in words. I also love that way of presenting themself without a director on stage that always breaks the magic in my opinion. Greetings
I always come back to this. Beautiful.
How are there people who doesn't like this subliminal chant???? This is SUPERB!!!! Another dimension.....a sacred alchemy between words, music and mystery. So beautiful!!! Thank you Chanticleer!!!!

Nothing short of amazing, the day you guys stop singing is the day I give up on music.
This is wonderfully powerful as it is beautiful! The sheer force of it takes us to Heaven! Just wish it could keep us there. I'm certain St. Hildegard is very pleased. This is timely with 2,000th anniversary of when Jesus walked the Earth.
This is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.
Please, Please include this on your next album, it exquisitely beautiful. I've listened to other versions of this piece but yours is by far the best.
this is the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard
Simply stunning! Like being transported to another (better) world.
Wow, this is real art, and thinking about the meaning of this song, incredible
Beautiful song, beautiful voices :)
I've always been a sucker for really deep, low basses...but those countertenors brought me to tears. Such a soft yet rich tone, such immaculate vocal control with the little trills, such a beautiful blend of voices. Chanticleer is truly on another level when it comes to this. Insanely well done, everyone.
It was unexpected. Amazing and beautiful.Thank you. 🙏
Mesmerizing. Soul stirring. I believe Hildegard herself would be enchanted
So awesome and hauntingly beautiful! all voices as one voice. Thank you.
wow. i think i'll start every day with this so I am one with the universe. amazing amazing
Great music por a great performance!
Beyond years of musical excellence! Thank you
Just amazing counter tenor voices. Off to find more about Chanticleer.
I really like the subtle tonic and dominant droning pedal tone!
You're all flawless
Stunning!So wonderful!Fantastic rendition!Many thanks!
That was simply exquisite.
Can you folks imagine that she didn't know how to write down music: no music education, no keys. She said that God placed music and poetry into her heart. I bet she's praying from up there for us, sinners.
Was blessed to have heard these gentlemen perform twice. The only thing that would have been truly magical, is if they did the concerts at local cathedral, St Cecilia's, with it's incredible acoustics. She is patron saint of music.⛪🎶
Simply magnificent!
Gorgeous and so well done! Thank you -
Beautiful .......
Exquisite. Perhaps we Americans crave ancient music that we don't always produce at such a high caliber? Joy this day in the Covid Era. Dec. 24, 2022

The human voice is making that drone sound. Watch the men who look like they aren't singing and now and then you'll see them take a breath to continue to hold the lower notes.
