CHANGING A VENTED HEATING SYSTEM TO A SEALED SYSTEM installing a combination boiler
Derek shows us in this gas tutorial for trainee gas engineers how to change an old vented heating system into a sealed heating system installing a combination boiler . YOU MUST BE GAS SAFE REGISTERED TO WORK ON GAS

THANKS DEREK. TAKING A FEW OF THESE OUT AT THE MOMENT, VERY USEFUL VIDEO. THANKS AGAIN
One of the best explanation videos I’ve seen so far,thanks
Another great video. Very useful. Thanks Derek. 👍😀
Great video as always Derek. I learn valuable information from every one of your videos and love watching them. Never seen a 'hot rod' configeration. Always thought the diverter hot water outlet went into the coil of the cyclinder further down not at the hot water outlet on the top of the tank
All your videos are very precious... Thanks for your contribution..
Really enjoyed this.. Learn something new every day and i love that 😀
Very knowledgeable and puts it across clearly. Excellent video,good job done. Must admit I don’t miss installing
Great videoDerek ,looks a bit daunting for some one studying for ACS exam, but after time and more experience hopefully be doing this. Thanks mate
Great video. Didn't understand all of it but learned what I needed to know.
Thank you Derek great one again
Thanks Derek great video
Hi Derek -- good installation -- i've still a couple of customers with Halstead boilers -- they have been good for reliabilty -- but it's a good job coz the parts for them are big money -- i've changed dozens + dozens of open vent conventional boilers to sealed system combi boilers -- but one thing i'm always aware of is are the rads + the rad valves up to the extra pressure with a sealed system -- and also are the hot taps and any showers up to the extra pressure too -- iv'e been in many houses wjere the combi boiler has been operating 40 year old thermostatic showers !!! .
Great video with great info
Hi derek another amazing video, could you make a video on what KW boiler you should install in a house and what type of boiler you should use eg combi, system (with megaflow) or regular/traditional boiler.
Been a subscriber for awhile and always enjoy your vlogs. would be very interested in your insight / Knowledge of the domestic hot water flow sequence of operation of the Vailant ecotec 937 . How the Stored hot water and the plate H/ Exchanger work in sequence. Keep up the great work

Ask vaillant 🤣🤣🤣
I thou the video was about swapping vented for sealed cylinder. Someone slap my face 🤪
Great stuff, could you do us a video on lifting the floorboards and putting them back in?
Guessing the valves on the cold feed and vent possibly on the system prior to the one you replaced. 40 years + experience, old school still prefer soldered fittings Derek but that's just me I guess. Love your videos, the ones in France made me laugh especially your French, brilliant ha ha👍

@@tomkatgastraining Stop it you sound like me dad, he'd never carry a metric tape always imperial " the only Meters I know are gas and electric" he'd say, made sure I was well trained 7 years apprenticeship and tech college, then when he retired at 65 he came to "work" for me, he spent more time nattering to my customers. Great channel by the way really enjoy it, can tell you know your onions Derek👍
Great video as per. Would love to see a Video on pressfit machines and fittings. I’m old school and only just dipping my feet into the plastic fittings world lol.

I have alot of videos to catch up on. This looked like it was a nightmare especially running a new gas pipe in. It turned into a work of art though. Very nice job! Will you be doing a video on choosing and sizing a boiler and radiators. This is a subject i think most people struggle with.

Stop waffling and get p'on with it Derek 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍💯
Derek how about a video on how to properly and safely branch into a gas pipe which is already carrying gas👍

Top vid Derek - but where's the part you crack the whip on Tom 😜
Cracking video. Absolutely amazing. Loved the way you explained how an air separator works. (Sorry, but really wanted to ask this.. ) You mentioned ‘hot rod’. What’s a hot rod? Thanks Derek 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Asian Jon. Training.

👌
Thank you for a very educational video. To me it seems as if you by-passed all of the cylinder and pipework by connecting the new combi-boiler heating flow into the central heating flow and then used the central heating return pipe to connect the filling loop. I have never seen hot rods before, I assume they are similar to the coil inside a hot water cylinder?
@tomkatgastraining

All I did was remove the 3 port and flow to the cylinder and the connected the primary flow into the heating flow if you look at the end of the video a draw what I did 👍🏻
👍👍👍👍
Am i correct that on the aerjec , first diagram p and f needs to be connected
That was hell of a job! Working through the tight space underneath those cupboards aren't gonna be easy can feel it. Quick question; when we install unvented cylinder, do we need to ask for permission prior to install? I know we have notify building control after we install it but little confused while my tutor told me it has to be done prior during my G3 cse but most of the info at the website said it only need to notify after install. Could you guide on this one please? Thank you
@tomkatgastraining
4 жыл бұрын
ERRICK MAGAR if you hold the g3 qualification mate you don’t need to notify building control first you just need to register it after normally through gas safe like you would with a boiler but you have to inform gas safe first that you have the qualification or it won’t show in the drop down box. Hope that helps and thanks for watching cheers

Hi Derek, thank you for your video. I have cut out a blocked solid cold feed about 4 years ago and now have noticed with a magnet a blockage is building up again. In your experience does this happen that often. Maybe time to change to non vented. cheers Andy King... DIY guy.

The machine we use is geberit not sure what fittings we used as they belong to my son. I am not a big lover of mapress but it dose have its advantages, I would definitely use mapress over push fit all day long
Nice job Derek👍 A couple of wee criticisms; Why is it that guys using Pressfit don’t form bends? Would’ve been better with a ‘Remote’ filling loop, complete with pressure gauge. Thanks for sharing.
@tomkatgastraining

Fibre Washer because of lockdown we could only work with what we had. The landlord didn’t want the filling loop under the boiler because he was having the pipe work boxed in and we did bend the pipe 😜

Derek on an F&E system can you upgrade the cold feed to the pump and remove the 15mm feed and 22mm vent pipe so it's combined? How does this impact on the 150mm rule? Thanks for the videos and the learning
@tomkatgastraining

Not really sure what you are asking but it’s best practice to have vent cold feed and then pump so you don’t get air sucking in or the pump pumping over
@PilotLyons
2 жыл бұрын
I've got a system sucking in air where the feed is on the return pipe and the pump is very close to the flow. I put cup of water in loft under vent pipe and it sucked it all out. Should I move the fill to between pump and flow/vent tee? Or convert to pressurised to solve problem
CH 👍
Nice vid. have you never had an issue with old pipework being compromised once its converted to pressurized? It can be a nightmare!

david kneale yes on a few occasions but that’s one of the things you must tell the customer that could happen and you are not responsible for it happening and it could mean costing more to replace the faulty leaking part
excellent, what were the copper fittings were they push types ?

Hi we use geberit mapress fittings. They are very expensive you are probably looking about 1800 quid for the gun and jaws but they do fit all m fittings. 👍🏻
