Bell bottoms and pretty aunt's and cousins, in the kitchen with my mom talking about hair and how to make the best fried chicken. This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances in every HOLD TIGHT section of the song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our timeless music culture.

When I was young, my father used to play his entire compilation of funk songs on the road to Morocco or when traveling to France. I would hear it play after we finished our prayers and recited all the surahs we knew. Today, that rhythm is engraved in my memory and reminds me of my father and the journey every time I hear it. I thought so at one time then when I read Luther's bio..he has done several songs on his dating back to the early 70's. Then in 1978 Luther sung on the first cut on the classic Bionic Boogie & Greg Diamond album. The song is Papillion Butterfly in which Chaka Khan recorded later that year.

The was post-Disco. It was called Dance Music by the music powers that was. Reviewers in the Dance Music Report magazine called it "Sophisticated Funk". I called it R&B Dance....Dance b/c of the 4/4. You're right the entire LP is a Classic. I love how on "Heaven Of My Life" Luther's backing vocal bleeds out from the background. Sooo Dope! Jocelyn Brown is singing on this LP as well, a/k/a Jocelyn Shaw.

@@clubhead433 What's the first and last of Disco has been discussed a lot. I hear this as part of later period Disco, which lasts through 1982, with maybe some traces past then. First is "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" by The Trammps...their first version on Buddha. They later recorded it for their own label - Golden Fleece - in 1975, but ended up legally having to release an instrumental version only (retitled as "Trammps Disco Theme"), I believe due to something contract related with Buddha to not re-record material during a certain time period, but an original mix of the '75 version from back then with the vocals intact does exist which Tom Moulton found (I think) in the early 2010s, and was released.

This song is uplifting but that beat is so amazing 4:38. I was listening on my headphones thinking how certain beats like this can make you feel so good. Next time I'm stuck in NYC overnight waiting for a bus and walking around the almost empty city streets, I need to remember to listen to this.

This one I heard sampled in a vaporwave song by Dante Mars Ajeto, it basically sounds the same but it adds a remixed part that feels like a party.

Michael Richardson: Disco will never die, I sure miss the music of the 1980's. the disco period was the best period of my teenage and early twenties. at age 26 the disco age was over and rap was officially in by 1989-1990. there were no more discotech anymore. discotech were out of business, discotech tried in vain to stay in business, and they were now called the club. the crowd was younger and the music and magic was gone forever. this was devastating to me and my friends, because there was no more Paradise Garage, and Better Days, clubs my friends and I went frequently. Now in my late Fifties I only dream and remember those great times. I'm glad I lived to enjoy it. Michael Richardson

This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances in every HOLD TIGHT section of the song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our timeless music culture.

When I was young, my father used to play his entire compilation of funk songs on the road to Morocco or when traveling to France. I would hear it play after we finished our prayers and recited all the surahs we knew. Today, that rhythm is engraved in my memory and reminds me of my father and the journey every time I hear it. Any song from this group is clean crisp and fantastic! Most of their songs were recorded in Bologna Italy, Luther Vandross got his start with this group his first song being The Glow Of Love, fantastic group very underrated!

I thought so at one time then when I read Luther's bio..he has done several songs on his dating back to the early 70's. Then in 1978 Luther sung on the first cut on the classic Bionic Boogie & Greg Diamond album. The song is Papillion Butterfly in which Chaka Khan recorded later that year.

I’m 25 so I didn’t dance to this In clubs but I found this vinyl between my dad’s collection. What an amazing tune to discover, I remember being a kid dancing to the riff at 4:40
Can believe this nearly 40 years ago fro this killer tune, have to admit I dropped in a house set, and it killed it, funky and just magic...
I can listen to it with or without the vocals. It just makes you melt in your thoughts
I completely forgot about this gem until I saw the movie The Burial!!! Used to be my jam!!
I heard this again for the first time. Thank you for the memories. I loved this song when it came out. To hear it again after so many years, brings a smile. A simpler time, when music was smooth and so very good. Thank you again
The whole album is a classic. This came our in the disco Era and when the Dj put this album on he played the whole joint and people were up jamming.

The was post-Disco. It was called Dance Music by the music powers that was. Reviewers in the Dance Music Report magazine called it "Sophisticated Funk". I called it R&B Dance....Dance b/c of the 4/4. You're right the entire LP is a Classic. I love how on "Heaven Of My Life" Luther's backing vocal bleeds out from the background. Sooo Dope! Jocelyn Brown is singing on this LP as well, a/k/a Jocelyn Shaw.

@@SS-fb7zd Oh yes, Luther is singing background vocals. I know he's not doing the lead. I have 3 copies of this LP and the 12". He is credited as a backing vocalist. If you are a student of background singing and harmony...Luther's blend is so tight only those whose ear is tuned can hear his note.

@@clubhead433 What's the first and last of Disco has been discussed a lot. I hear this as part of later period Disco, which lasts through 1982, with maybe some traces past then. First is "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" by The Trammps...their first version on Buddha. They later recorded it for their own label - Golden Fleece - in 1975, but ended up legally having to release an instrumental version only (retitled as "Trammps Disco Theme"), I believe due to something contract related with Buddha to not re-record material during a certain time period, but an original mix of the '75 version from back then with the vocals intact does exist which Tom Moulton found (I think) in the early 2010s, and was released.
I remember my mom's use to throw this jam on especially in the summer of 85, I was almost 4...Man life was just better everyone was alive, family friends BBQs at the park...

This one I heard sampled in a vaporwave song by Dante Mars Ajeto, it basically sounds the same but it adds a remixed part that feels like a party.

Michael Richardson: Disco will never die, I sure miss the music of the 1980's. the disco period was the best period of my teenage and early twenties. at age 26 the disco age was over and rap was officially in by 1989-1990. there were no more discotech anymore. discotech were out of business, discotech tried in vain to stay in business, and they were now called the club. the crowd was younger and the music and magic was gone forever. this was devastating to me and my friends, because there was no more Paradise Garage, and Better Days, clubs my friends and I went frequently. Now in my late Fifties I only dream and remember those great times. I'm glad I lived to enjoy it. Michael Richardson

Wow…Just now in 23’ in hearing this!! A few of their other songs I grew up on and love to this day. A European created version of the popular 1970’s group Chic. Similar style. Good music!!

I totally agree with you!! The best decade of my life!! Best love, best music and movies too!! So sad it's gone, especially during the pandemic! We were so blessed to have the freedom and happy dancing nights at the clubs, in the 80s was the best!! Omg!! Missing it so much!!

I was in the food court in downtown LA earlier. This song was playing on the PDA, I was grooving it all the way up to check out and didn't realize it. I miss music that makes you feel so good that you're wrapped up in the groove.
