    David where do you press on the white plug to remove the bulb from the white part?

  • @DavidCelaya

    @DavidCelaya

    You press on the white part of the connector, just below the white part at the top that sticks out. You press it in, or toward the front of the car, and pull down at the same time. It's the part I touch right at 1:50 seconds.

    David Celaya yes finally got it done today. Thanks for all your help :) Driver side is easy but passenger side is much easier if you have one person press the white tab from the bottom where you show and the other person pulls the bulb from the hood of the car. I could not fit both my hands in from the wheel corner. But thank you sir. Mechanics wanted to charge me 50 bucks for that haha. have everything you wish for in life. Cheers

    That's fantastic to hear! FYI, if one of the front turn signal bulbs ever goes out (you can tell its going bad because the blinker will blink very fast) changing it is the same method. I just had to change one of mine. Enjoy, and thanks very much for the kind words :)

    I found it useful to wedge a handheld ice scraper between the wheel well liner and the metal body. Doing so maintains a nice wide (sort of) opening you can rely on while working on the bulb.

    pete W Thanks! As I mentioned to someone else, I realized later that you can also get away with just pushing the under wheel plastic part in without bothering to remove the plug. Although there is a chance the plug will snap. But a bag of them is like a dollar on Amazon. I recently had to change the turn signal bulb, and I just pushed the plastic part in, and wiggled my arm in there.

  • @JETWAKE

    You can do both sides from the top. You will need to remove the upper plastic tube of the windshield washer resevoir. You will need to slide up the radiator over flow catch container. Wear latex gloves. Use a very long screw driver to press on the white raised tab of the white molex connector to release it from the bulb. Rotate the Sylvania 9006 bulbs and remove them. When you re-install the bulb make sure they get into the locked vertical position. Now reconnect the white connectors onto the bulbs and make sure they click and snap up and over the tiny black raised tab on the bulb housing. Driver side takes 3 minutes and passenger side takes 10 minutes. Refill the windshield washer reservoir before you close the hood. 2010 Honda Civic LX.

    @DavidCelaya

    really? hmmmm. I could see the long screw driver working to get the clip off, but don't know how you'd get a grip on the back of the bulb to twist it out, then get the new one in on the drivers side? There's just no room! But hey, I'd love to see it! Make a video :)

  • @JETWAKE

    @JETWAKE

    6 жыл бұрын

    You must remove the plastic overflow container. The one with the black rubber hose. Once you pull it up off of the curved bracket, your hand reaches in between the battery and the horn. Disconnect the white connector first, then remove the bulb. Reverse the steps for installation of the new bulb. This is how the Honda dealership does it. There is no removing front wheels or inner fenders. If your hands are giant like a bear, this may not work. You can lower the bulb into place with a long ziptie. The most difficult step is getting the white plastic connector the click back into place onto the bulb.

    You just described replacing the bulb on the DRIVER side. This is what I showed at 1:53 n this video, and is the easy side. I'm asking about the PASSENGER side. The passenger side is the one that I do not think is reachable from the top.

  • @JETWAKE

    @JETWAKE

    6 жыл бұрын

    The passenger side is possible from the top only if you remove the windshield wiper fill tube. This is a two piece device with a black o-ring inside. The top section of the tube is secured by a small flush push tab on the passenger fender. This passenger side has less room to work than the driver side. I found that it is impossible to finish the job with the windshield washer tube in place. You would have to have a child with small hands to make the connections. If you have long fingers and medium size hands it is a simple job. I was able to disconnect and remove everything with the windshield tube in place and the very long screw driver. I could not get everything back and connected until I removed the windshield tube. I have been a mechanic for 42 years and have some good tools and skills.

  • @DavidCelaya

    @DavidCelaya

    6 жыл бұрын

    Ahhh. Makes sense. Yes, I found that there was no way I was going to get to the passenger side without disconnecting that fill tube. I think disconnecting that piece is something many people would not feel comfortable doing. I just had to change out the front turn indicator bulb on the drivers side, and I didn't feel like removing the screw or pin under the wheel, so I just pushed the under wheel well plastic protector in, without removing any screws or the pin. It's very flexible. If I had to change the low beams again, I'd just do the same, and push the plastic protector in, and work my arm around. But if you like doing it from the top, and removing that piece, I like that method as too :) Thanks for the info!

    SUPERB video. Some other vidz are like 20 minutes or the guys are goofy and talk too much. GREAT close ups, too. PROBLEM: What about the high beam, driver side? The passenger side is super easy access, but what about that driver side? When one of these high beams go out, the DRL light (Daytime Running Lights) will come on, but those lights WON'T show while driving in the daytime.

    Thanks! I get very impatient watching how-to videos, so I tried to edit it down pretty tight. It could still have been shorter :) As for the high beam/DRL on the drivers side, it's tight, but you can do it from the top. You can see it in my video at about 2:07. It's the blue clip. If you ever need to change this, it's 9005 (from any bulb maker) amzn.to/2XtdfeX There's a couple of videos on youtube showing it done.

  • @DavidCelaya

    I know, it can be tricky the first time you do it. Right on the back of the white connector piece is a vertical piece of plastic. That's what's holding the connector on. It acts like a rocker arm. So if you push in, (or toward the front of the car), at the bottom of that piece, the top part of it moves out, (or away from the front end of the car), allowing you to slide the connector down and off.

    My problem removing the bulb, was that the correct bulbs all appear to have that 90 degree plastic base, like a gun shape so you know its a twist turn, mine "appear" to have a fitting like a push fit and I was a bit concerned to try pull out straight or twist it and break it...so I gave up for now!.....do all Civic bulbs have the 90 degree plastic base....or rather are my new eagle eye H4 halogen plasma gold bulbs completely the wrong bulb?

    Hi. Is this the bulb you have? amzn.to/2Nq0Acu ...Or something close to it? It should have come with a conversion kit/adapter. If you have a 06-11 Civic, you need the 9006 version. Here's the page on amazon that lists all compatible bulbs amzn.to/2XhRwe5 . If you go to Amazon's Your Garage page (amzn.to/2J3EPuS) and enter in your exact car and year, then most car part pages will show you at the top of the page if that part fits your car or not.

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial, I was able to change my bulbs relatively easily. Longshot question because this is an older video: do you (or anyone reading this) know the name of the plastic clip removed at approximately 0:35? Mine broke upon removal and I want to replace it without going to the dealership. This thing isn't that important right? I can drive without it? The screw is securely attached, so I'd think the siding work l would stay largely in place. Thanks again for your help.

    Hi there, glad it helped! People break those fender clips all the time. You have to pop up the center part first, then you can slide them out. No worry, they're cheap :) Click the link in my description, (on my phone now, can't copy paste from youtube) and scroll down to the second clip..."25 Front Fender Push-Type Retainer Compatible With Acura..." Sold by clipsandcasteners inc. Not the one from Gooacc, that's the 10mm. Why do I know this?...I had to replace my fender liner a while back. :) What you want is the 8mm clip. Honda also uses a 10mm clip for the bumper at the front of the car. So just make sure you get the 8mm. If you don't want to buy the $6 bag of 25 generic brand ones from Amazon, and just want 1, or 2 oem, you can get it from something like Honda parts direct... Honda parts online, etc,. Here's the Honda part number: 91512-SX0-003 Good luck!

    Okay so serious question, how did you push in that inner lining underneath the front bumper after doing the bolt?

  • @DavidCelaya

    @DavidCelaya

    5 жыл бұрын

    It is a pretty tight squeeze ;). Once you remove the screw and the clip, then make sure your wheel is turned all the way left. Then you should be able to push the lining in toward the wheel. It's just plastic, so you can push it pretty hard, and bend it in on itself (like I do at about 1:33, it'll bend back after. You can also see I moved the fender forward a little for some more room. Also make sure you have the hood open, and facing some light so that you can look up in there and see where you need to squeeze your arm. I would also suggest reaching in and feeling where the back of the connector is, while looking at your arm, and how far in it is. That way, when you take the bulb out, and go to put the new one in, you know approx, how far in your arm needs to be, and at what angle. It also would probably help if a friend is looking down from the top and guiding you. Let me know if anything is still unclear. Otherwise...GL! Let us know how it goes!

    Just a sec...let me go out to the car and double check. Be right back. Ok, went out there and refreshed my memory :) Short answer, you have to pull it STRAIGHT UP. Detailed version: So, you don't even have to remove the battery holder rod and bracket, like I do at 1:54. Just slide your left hand down the back side of the reservoir. Like you were going to give it a flat left handed hand shake. WATCH YOUR NUCKLES! lol. Maybe place a rag or something between the back of your hand and the battery holder thing. Then, with your left thumb on the top hose of the reservoir, and your left middle or index finger on the other reservoir hose (the one that's lower, and toward the front of the car) begin to slightly wiggle the reservoir back and forth (toward the driver's side mirror, and then back toward the front of the car) all while pulling STRAIGHT UP. Keep pulling up, and it will eventually pop right up.

    For the passenger side, the only way to replace the bulb is from the outside of the car? is there a way to do it from the engine bay?

  • @DavidCelaya

    @DavidCelaya

    6 жыл бұрын

    David Paypa I don't think you can do it from inside the engine bay. Too tight a fit, and too many parts crammed in there. It really isn't that hard from the wheel well. Just kind of a pain the first time doing it. I recently had to change the turn signal in the driver's side, and just pushed the wheel well plastic in without even taking out the screw or tab. Good luck!

    I just had one headlight go out on my 2007 Civic. I asked for both sides to be changed at the same time. They charged me for 2 bulbs. Ever since then, the one side is now dimmer than the side that went out. And now they're trying to say there are 2 bulbs that go on each side and that's what I was charged for. I asked for both sides. Each bulb cost $9.20. Are they lying to me?

  • @DavidCelaya

    @DavidCelaya

    6 жыл бұрын

    While your civic does have two bulbs on each side, only one is the low beam (one on each side). The other is the high beam (also one on each side). So if they charged you for two bulbs, they should have changed the low beam on each side. For about $9 each bulb, they probably used these amzn.to/2ILMBGK or any other 9006 bulb (Sylvania and Philips are the two brands your most likely to find). 9066 is the low beam part number (9005 is the high beam). At $9 each, those are pretty much the cheapest bulbs you can get. The more you spend, the brighter and whiter light you get, but those will work just fine. So while there is a possibility one of the new bulbs is failing already (it happens), and I'm not sure they'd try to rip you off for $9 (they'll go for a big number for that lol) The "two on each side" argument for why one is now dimmer sounds like bs. If you want get some new ones and change them yourself, or have a friend do it, it's not that hard. You can get the bulbs from my link, or any Walmart or the like near you. They'll be between 10 and $20 a bulb, and the number is 9006, Philips or Sylvania. Then it just takes about a half to an hour or so, and a little arm wiggling under the tire area. Just don't wait until summer and 100 degrees to do it like I did! :) Let us know how it turns out!

    Arrrg. Sorry to hear that.Are you saying you broke the clip that locks the back of the bulb to the harness plug? Does the light still make an electrical connection? That is, does the light still come on? I looked around for a while, and it looks like you'd need to replace the whole wiring harness. They look fairly inexpensive, but I couldn't find the exact part, and it might be a bit of work to get the old harness off to replace it. If the light still works, can you possibly just wrap some electrical tape it around it? Maybe not the most elegant solution, but I'd be temped to just do that. If you can see where the connector goes, and can get it off, you could take it into an autoparts place. Or even a honda dealer, and just show them the actual harness.

    Oh no! Sorry to hear. I guess your trying to change the passenger side? If so, first thing I would try is using a different new bulb. Or, just take the bulb from the drivers side, and plug it into the passenger side. If that works, you know the first bulb was bad. If not, then it may be something further up the line, like the wiring harness. You might be able to swap that from the drivers side too as a test. But it might be a real tight squeeze getting your hands in there. At that point, it might be time to take it in someplace. Mine is at the shop right now...Getting new axles, brakes front and rear, new power steering fluid hose (its leaking bad), etc etc. Probably going to drop about a grand into it. So don't feel too bad! GL, let us know what happens.
