    Glad I was able to help! Sometimes it takes up to 200 miles before you will notice a difference. After the 200 miles or so, hopefully the shudder completely goes away. If you feel a positive difference but it still does it on occasion do another drain/refill around 1000 miles. There's roughly 10 qts in the transmission and the drain/refill only replaces about half of the fluid. Good luck.

    Great easy to understand video . I may try this when the time is due if you can do this without jacking up the car . I know the dealer gets at least $300 to do this .

    Glad you liked it! You will have to jack the vehicle up slightly, but you don't need it up very high. If you can change your oil you can for sure do this job and save a few hundred dollars. Good luck.

    Nicely done video, thank you. My 2023 Premier AWD shudders 'sometimes' after a 2-3 shift since it was new (when in FWD mode, not sure about AWD mode) and only on medium hard or full acceleration. I am wondering if it is properly full from the factory. Only 13k miles on it. Where's the check plug on an AWD? Will that check the xfer case as well? I'm assuming the wrong oil and other problems of the earlier years are fixed on the '23. This vehicle was not called in for the Sun gear/axle clip recall.

    Glad you liked it! There is a transmission fluid level plug on the driver's side of the transmission on the side. This is different than the transfer case fluid as that has its own plug. You're correct, the wrong fluid was only on some of the early models however even up to 2023 GM has bulletins talking about transmission contamination that fluid needs to be replaced (static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10237355-0001.pdf. If you only have 13k miles and only 1 year old, I recommend you take it to the dealer. Even if they come back and say cant reproduce, at least you have it on record at the dealership that you had an issue with only 13k. GM sometimes will honor repairs even after the warranty has expired if you identified symptoms while under the warranty.

    Watched many Traverse videos and this is by far the best. None other speak of the fill level plug. I assume the fill level would be at normal operating temperature??

    Glad you liked it! According to GM, it is not necessary to check the transmission fluid level unless there is a leak as that is the only way for fluid loss. With that said if you are having problems with yours here are the steps to check the fluid level for the models without a dipstick on the capl: (1) Start the engine. (2) Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever through each gear range, pausing for about 3 seconds in each range. Then move the shift lever back to PARK (P). Allow the engine to idle 500-800 rpm for at least 3 minutes to allow any fluid foaming to dissipate and the fluid level to stabilize. Release the brake pedal. Note: If the transmission fluid temp (TFT) reading is not at the required temperature, allow the vehicle to cool, or operate the vehicle until the appropriate TFT is reached. If the fluid temperature is below the specified range, perform the following procedure to raise the fluid temperature to the specification. Drive the vehicle in second gear until the fluid temperature is at the specified temperature. Some models have display on the dash showing the transmission fluid temp if not equipped then you will need scan tool. (3) Keep the engine running and observe the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) using the Driver Information Center or a scan tool. Caution: The transmission fluid level must be checked when the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) is at 85-95°C (185-203°F). If the TFT is not at this temperature, operate the vehicle or allow the fluid to cool as required. Setting the fluid level with a TFT outside this temperature will result in either an under or over-filled transmission. TFT 95°C under-filled, TFT 85°C over-filled. An under-filled transmission will cause premature component wear or damage. An over-filled transmission will cause fluid to discharge out the vent tube, fluid foaming, or pump cavitation. (4) Raise the vehicle on a hoist. The vehicle must be level, with the engine running and the shift lever in the PARK range. (5) While the vehicle is idling, remove the oil level set plug on the left side of transmission. Allow any fluid to drain. (6) If the fluid is flowing as a steady stream, wait until the fluid begins to drip. (7) If no fluid comes out, add fluid until fluid drips out. Hope this helps!

    No trouble now, has just above 55k miles. I do pull a small trailer behind it 900lbs with a golf cart on it. The temp will get up to 195 -215 ove the mountain area of Va. On the trip usually runs about 197-203. It is a 2019 Traverse AWD LT, does not have the tow package or additional oil cooler. I installed the hitch. We tow the cart once a year in the summer 3 hrs each way. I figure going fwd I will just change the fluid after we make the 6 hrs round trip each year. Any other suggestions are welcomed for towing.

  • @TeamDIYNow

    @TeamDIYNow

    21 күн бұрын

    @captain8997 Models without the tow pkg have a max towing capacity of 1,500 lbs (this number is very conservative from GM in my opinion). The tow pkg increases it to 5,000 lbs. If your trailer and golf cart only weight 900 lbs and you're not carrying 7 passengers you should be fine. I tow a 4000 lbs trailer/boat with this Enclave about 10 times a year 2 hr round trip and it does surprisingly well (has the tow pkg). You can for sure change every year for preventive maintenance to be safe but honestly, it's probably overkill. I think you should be fine just changing every 30k-50k (typically when I do mine) with a good quality Dex VI fluid.

    Thanks again for that input. The trailer is 900lbs the cart is 550lbs so I'm there. One last thing. I plan to use Valvoline Dexron VI. That's good quality fluid ? I have a 2017 silverado 105k miles planning to change the trans fluid in that also. Using Valvoline high mileage (above75k) Dexron VI.

    @@captain8997 No problem, glad to help. As long as the Dex VI is approved/licensed Dex VI then it will work. Some will say 'recommended for Dex VI' I would avoid those fluids. Valvoline will work great as it is an approved GM fluid (amzn.to/3RY5vQD).

    Does the vehicle need to be warm?. After changing the fluid should you cycle the transmission through the different gears?

  • @TeamDIYNow

    @TeamDIYNow

    Ай бұрын

    The only time I would worry about warming the car for 1-2 minutes would be in the winter to speed the process up since the fluid is extremely cold. Other than that, there is no need to warm the vehicle up when doing a drain/refill. No, you don't need to cycle the transmission through the gears unless you are trying to check the fluid level which isn't required if you refill with the same amount you removed.

    Since replacing the fluid, I have noticed a significant positive difference. The shudder that was there before is 100% gone. Also, since 20k miles (bought new) this vehicle had a weird rattle around 2300-2400 RPM (only under load not in neutral) that was looked at by the dealer a few years ago and weren't able to identify cause of noise. It sounded like a heat shield so they said would make note in file in case something happens down the road outside of warranty. After replacing the fluid with 5.5 qts, the noise is about 75% gone. Since the drain/refill only replaces a portion of the fluid Im going to do another drain refill when I get some time to see if gets rid of 100% of the noise.

    Is mobil hp compatible with Dex 6. I heard mobil hp was upgraded dex 6

  • @TeamDIYNow

    @TeamDIYNow

    Ай бұрын

    I wouldn’t say it’s an upgrade as it’s just a different formulation. Mobil still makes Dexron VI and Mobil 1 LV ATF HP (aka Dexron HP) and GM still specs both on certain vehicles as of 2024. The older Mobil 1 HP claimed on the bottle it was compatible with Dexron III, VI, etc. The newer/current version of Mobil 1 HP (has the blue label) that claim was removed. Between 2019/2021, GM released a few bulletins for the 8 speed transmissions (Corvette, Yukon, etc) where they recommended Mobil 1 HP. Any models with the 8 speed transmission from 2015-2021 (or so) that were factory filled with Dexron VI AND have a shudder issue, according to bulletin # 18-NA-355 ( static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10163890-9999.pdf ) are supposed to be completely flushed and replaced with Mobil 1 HP. Not to be confused with Dexron ULV which GM specs for the 10 speed transmission. On the 9 speed 9T65 transmission on the Enclave and Traverse (and some other GM transmissions), GM still recommends you use Dexron VI as of 2024. See fluid recommendation on page #331 on this 2024 Enclave ( www.buick.com/bypass/pcf/gma-content-api/resources/sites/GMA/content/staging/MANUALS/6000/MA6071/en_US/4.0/23_BUI_Enclave_OM_en_US_U_84999713B_2022AUG08_2P_INS1.pdf ). Hope this helps.

    is it necessary to change the transmission filter

  • @TeamDIYNow

    @TeamDIYNow

    Ай бұрын

    No, it's not required as the filter is only replaced if the transmission is removed and rebuilt. There is no service interval for the filter as it is considered to be good for the life of the transmission which is why it's important to do the drain/refill.
