I absolutely love that you’re one of the few that demand high quality in luxury. We cannot be blinded by brand name. Luxury is about exclusivity, craftsmanship/quality and design.

I absolutely agree with you! This is why I would never buy any handbag at this price. There are way to many other exclusive, extremely well made and designed products out there, for which I do not have to pay these ridiculous prices. No need for this brand stamp especially if the quality is not as one would expect!

The sad thing is that these brands used to represent these things. I have bags from 20 years ago that still look amazing. They were made for life. Now, I am shocked at the horrible quality. No new bags for me. I'm into the vintage market. ☺️

Exactly! How much are you willing to pay for something that lacks quality? Just because some people think they buy a ‘status’ the prices goes up madly. Nobody needs 20 Chanel bags or Hermes.. Now if they accuse you of carrying a fake after you’ve spent like £4000 plus 😂😂😂👍👍👍 Money should be spent on a quality else its a fake even if it comes from ‘Chanel’ due to its poor quality and stitching noone is gonna know you’ve spent £4k on a bag as it doesn’t look like!!

100% they will. I find especially annoying that they try to get to Hermès level but honestly, how? How with that horrible quality.

I’ve been saying this for ages. I was in the Chanel store on Sloane street before the lockdown in November and honestly half the bags look like fakes because of bad stitching, unsymmetrical lines and stitching, scratches on bags. It’s absurd. Don’t know why anyone would spend money on Chanel.

Completely agree with the above. Chanel is not what it used to be, neither are a lot of designer brands, in terms of quality. I think this has been exacerbated by the social media times we live in and these high end designers have basically become fast fashion in quality which continuously upping their prices. They’re completely taking advantage of this insane psychological state people are in, largely due to social media, of constantly needing new and “flexing”.

Chanel quality is now below that of the high quality counterfeits.

Agreed! It's so bad. Now it's just a name. I've only bought from the vintage collections, where they used to gold plate the chain and when I compare my 20yr old bag, to that of other's my friends have bought more recently, the wear quality is so surprising.

Sewing zippers can be pretty difficult, especially on small bags, but sheesh, you’d expect they’d employ very high skilled folks that can manage to do this without issues. These look like my first few attempts at sewing! Unbelievable 😕

Absolutely! Showing my age but I have bags from 15 to 20 years ago from LV, Gucci, Fendi etc. They still look amazing. They were made to last back then. My LV wallet I bought in 1999 looks new and I use it everyday. I've heard quality horror stories from the new stuff. It's really sad. The powers that be at these brands are destroying the names and legacies.

It doesn't seem special anymore. And the fact they are so cheap when it comes to quality. The founders would be rolling in their graves! And is it just me, or are the new collections really tacky and kinda empty? I miss Gucci when they had Tom Ford. And Chanel will never be the same without Karl.

As someone who has sewn for years, what happened to that silver bag is an amateur mistake. Happened to me at the beginning when I didn't care about straight lines.😔 Really no care was put into the quality of the item. Honestly, after 1 year of sewing, I made better quality items than that.

And what one of the influencers side is that the SA told her is that because of that the bag is so tiny they cant have the stitching right and they are ‘imperfect flaws’! I really thought OMG!! People believe this nonsense and buy the mini bags because they are from Chanel.. Chanel should be ashamed of themselves to even sell them to begin with!

Sophie that Chanel wrist thing looks like an ankle bracelet for people on day release. You have dinky little wrists and that thing is just massive. Take a look at the Vuitton one which seems less hefty.

That quality is really poor, however it will still sell because of the brand... unfortunately some heritage brands can let standards slip and die hard fans will carry on buying because they won't call them out ..well done Sophie ,they can't get away with it.

Has anyone seen a baby shoe or clothing item executed so well you wonder how they managed to put those little parts together? It can be done, pay the right people to do it. Those two items look like they were made in a sweatshop somewhere.

Yes, my daughter’s Christening gown, sewn by my mother (20 years ago). It’s perfect. My mother is no longer with us, sadly, so it holds a lot of sentimental value. By the way she wouldn’t accept any money for it.

That happened to me in 2020 and when I brought it back they’re acting like they don’t see it but I’m sure they just sell it to someone that doesn’t pay attention to the details but when I buy luxury everything has to be perfect because you’re spending a lot of money.

Believe or not, I have seen fakes are better made, bc they know ppl are looking for straight stitching, patterns alignment etc… they are more careful to make their fakes than chanel 🙃 I’m so sorry you have to experience this , what a let down, but I’m glad you speak the truth here💕

I was soooo embarrassed when I opened it 😂 I’m not spending my hard earned on this stuff, if it looked like the pics on the website it wouldn’t have been so bad, but seriously this stuff is junk!xx

The classic flap does actually come in plain flat leather, however they’re INCREDIBLY rare and they usually only get a release every 5 or so years, and they’re VERY limited when they are released! They’re called the Pure Classic Flap and the last release was 2017, so they should be coming up again in the next couple years!😊

The points you make regards practicality, design and actual finish quality against expectation for price are again bang on the button. WOW 😳 another reason why I'll stick with vintage Coach and Hermes. Chanel seem to think they're in the same league as Hermes while vintage Coach bags are even better in quality! I've stopped purchasing "luxury" bags a few years ago when quality left and prices kept rising. Now if I want a luxury brand which I don't but if I did I would definitely purchase it pre-loved vintage. So sorry this happened to you Sophia, return and get your money! Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you for this very true representation of what one can expect from Chanel these days! They have jacked up their prices and lowered, in some cases, dramatically, the quality of what you’re purchasing! The last Chanel I bought was the 2020 cruise exactly like your 2019 with the beautiful chunky handle. I do not anticipate buying any new products from Chanel in the foreseeable future!

Great review Sophie, I’ve been thinking about these two products especially the mini vanity but have been putting this off. You definitely need to check out the Dior mini vanity, it started on a really high price and seems to be reduced when chanel released theirs.

Demand has gotten so high for items that they no longer have the time nor the care to put into their items. I noticed this on several items when I was last at Saks. I would expect those kind of bags at an outlet not shipping out and that said I've gotten absolute beautiful Coach bags at their outlet that were full leather and gorgeous.

And the coach bags dont cost multiple months of mortgage! I've always liked the plain leather bags at coach, with not much branding on it!

@@sail253 I have an original tartan Poppy back before they sent the line to outlet. She is now 15 years old and is a beast. I used to use it as a bag for school so it's even had text books shoved inside. Not one crack in any leather, or zipper issues. Patricia Nash, Lucky, Fossil and Rebecca Minkoff have some of the best leather bags I've ever owned. The leather on my Patricia Nash tote is almost a 1/4 inch thick and built like my Tods leather bag and just keeps looking better with age, the same with the others yet I have Gucci, and Burberry that look far worse. For bags like Chanel, Dior, LV, etc... you are paying for the name, and design not necessarily for higher quality materials like you believe.

Hello Sophie, great video as always. Just a comment. At the classic flap, the pocket behind the flap is not supposed to be used. The flap is fixed only with two stitches on the sides and thesese can break. They hold the whole structure of the bag. So just be careful using the pocket 😉

Finally there have a blogger to review Chanel truthfully.....thanks! I used to be Chanel fans. There is no denying that their quality started to go downhill. Had this problem with LV bags. I finally found one that didn't have any defects.

I have seen perfectly straight stitching on fast fashion bags from Winners or Marshall’s. The stitching on Coach bags that I have is flawless. Considering Chanel prices, this low quality of workmanship should never have left the factory. So disappointing! Another great video. You look fabulous!

Sophie I am on my second WoC from 21S. It’s going back again for peeling. Out of 3 I’ve seen all were scuffed on the corners from their warehouse. I am not surprised you’ve had these issues and glad I am not the only one. I am glad you made a video on this cause people need to know that Chanel’s quality is going down hill.

Somewhere in the back of my head lives the image of myself in ripped jeans, a white shirt and a red jumbo - but I’m slowly letting go of it. It’s just not worth the current horrendous price and Chanel in general isn’t terribly appealing either. Those seams on your new bags are shocking.
