AMEN!
It is very hard for the workrooms after a show, we go into a sort of shock as suddenly all our 'babies' are taken away to be used in the press and commercial showrooms and we are left sitting in the middle of scraps and patterns. Luckilly the rythm is such that it doesn't last long and we begin to work on the next collection. First we have to sort out the patterns, make sure that no pieces or info is missing, then sort through the fabrics then the threads and then recover the work tables and generally wipe away the previous collection. At Chanel they use the workrooms to make the garments that are on order from clients in couture so there is an overlap. I remember doing a coat for Karl that had 6 metres of silk chiffon in each metre of trim made by Lemarié and we needed 16 metres of trim for the coat ! We made two for the show and one for Linda Evangelista as a gift.

Hi Stephanie! Could you tell us the secret of how to be an apprentice in these haute couture houses? I am dying for it
@TheFiown
4 жыл бұрын
@@0608jeffrey Hi Jeffrey, well in the past I had two apprentices, one is in Hollywood now and the other is head of workrooms at Chanel. In Paris you have to be in a fashion school and you Apply to a fashion couture house for an apprenticeship as part of your training. My two did three days in house and two days in school but were allowed more time in house during collections. Both of my apprentices I gave garments to do completely but mostly in these houses you get just to help out here and there. SO you have to be in the 'system' in order to get a foot in the door. You can also do internships but these are usually reserved for 'friends' of the personnel or the kids of clients etc. It's a tough world to get into but you have to persevere and set yourself a goal. My 'boy' apprentice is like my son and we travelled together to India and Brazil and we are in touch all the time, I have known him since he was 17 ! I Don't have any contacts in these houses anymore as I am out of the system, retired. Good luck.

Stephanie, Thank you so much for explaining to me, a little tiny keyhole view into the industry. You must've made the impossible possible in your time there, as I would believe, others of the same level done so as well 😍 It amazes, incites, makes my brain go on incredible adventures as to how the pieces came about - not just the drawings.. the rooms in which the items are created and it amuses me greatly (not in a bad way, a happy filled way) how much you all used science ( ie physics, solids, entities not solid at all, masses of varied texture and weight to create an object to behave in a certain way) plus the creative heart and soul and ability to meld these seemingly disparate things in a harmonious fashion. I've always adored our vestements, not just for the latest thing.. mostly for the ingenuity of those in the ateliers and those involved. especially when, I see things created and think to myself, ooh.. i think i saw something like this .. just like a noblewoman's chemise most likely florentine.. ooh hang on.. wrong.. look at that black work and someone put in a bit of something else which makes it hang all frouffy like a 17th century mercantile.. but slimmed the armsyces and rear upper torso a lot.. so its proportionally perfect 🥰🥰🥰 and then, wow us with something else totally different and make it work ❤️❤️❤️

Olivia was my apprentice, I gave her her first jacket to make for a fashion show, she was so happy to be able to do it, it gave her confidence. She is very talented and also a great underwater diver !! She so deserves her current position today.

These ladies are true artisans. It’s so nice to see beautiful things created with thought and care. You can tell each one was worried over until as perfect as humans can make something.
As a young designer, who knows Chanel's chronology and Karl's historical moments, to see the new ideas and the new concepts behind this collection blow my mind. Yes, I read the interviews but there are always some 'behind the scene' creative ideas behind dresses that quite frankly make me love this collection even more. (more) Respect for Virginie and Chanel. Bravo Loic!
I appreciated the scene where the seamstress was worrying over the pocket wrinkling; it’s not just me, the best of the best struggle too! 💕
The way the fabrics move so flawlessly costs time, money, and energy. No wonder they're so expensive.
You can't fake that attention to detail. That's how things are authenticated.
these head seamstresses deserves more recognition now than before, people who realize the visions of the designer on paper, kudos to all their teams on a successful show and many more to come 💓
every dress deserve a detailed presentation like this. every seamstreses deserve a credit. not as shallow as a pretty dress that can be bought by much money.
I wish I could see all the dresses inside out. I love the hidden details.
I love how open are all with you about their techniques and secrets. It's clear they appreciate your work and how much you love and admire fashion! Maybe one day I will be able to own one (one of the cheapest of course!) ... one day... so far only sunglasses 😍😍😍 Only critique I have is the flat shoes.. for the suits they were fine ... the dresses, that amazing red one or the black and silver... no flats please!

Loic posting daily 😍 Christmas came early
I enjoyed this behind the scenes so much! It’s wonderful to see craftspeople and artisans work and the pride they feel creating art. From someone who has done trade shows for many years, I understand the stress and pressure to pull off such an event. More of these please!
That was fascinating! Those ateliers work with such obvious passion for what they do. Their love for their clothes is transmitted in the finished product. Quelle artistes!
Je me rappelle de Madame Cécile qui racontait les superstitions dans les ateliers coutures, selon l’endroit où l’on se piquait avec l’aiguille. Toujours un bonheur d’entendre les premières d’atelier parler des collections
I love so much to see the artists passionately speak about the garments they make. It really is inspiring. I'm sure it feels nice for them to be able to point out the details of their expertise. It really is amazing to watch them. I'm sure they love having the chance to present it from an atelier's point of view.

Stunning! I love the move back to more historical inspirations. That for me, is what Chanel really excels at. And I also just love historical fashion. I don’t sew modern clothing, I find it boring.
Oh my god they are so wholesome!! Seemstresses and tailoreuses are the best people! I love it! And Virginie seems so nice and natural as well! 😍 Wonderful video!

Je trouve que le personnel semble beaucoup plus décontracté et souriant. Une belle touche féminine sur cette collection. Bravo mesdames !!!
Ah, so lovely to see Madame Jacqueline and Cecile again. I remember the first time I ever watched them in action in your Signé Chanel series. I've rewatched that show countless of times. The amount of work and detail of the ateliers is just unparalleled and the artistry is such a treasure to behold. I also really appreciate your zest and infectious energy behind the camera. It clearly spreads positive vibes on screen to see such enthusiasm about the ateliers and the level of work that goes into creating unique and artistic pieces. Merci, Loic!
