Honestly I'd just find the style bag you like take some pictures and find a skilled leatherworker to make it... it will always be way cheaper plus you get to pick the leather out

From experience? Kate Spade and Coach actually seem to have better quality than most major luxury brands. Dior is ok but honestly I stick to middle grade designer not luxury for the reasons Tanner explains

WOW!! Someone finally agree with what I’ve been saying this all along I have some of these bags unfortunately, I’m just growing up and learning that they’re not worth the money at all. Louis Vuitton doesn’t even give you an inside pocket or any kind of lining. Gucci does give you little pockets on the inside, maybe even a zip pocket on the inside. Chanel just not even worth the money it doesn’t really have a style to it at all except for the quilted look doesn’t feel like leather at all. Very disappointed, and for the money its totally not worth it. All three of these companies like to say, that they don’t make the handbags for people that can’t really afford, well the people that can afford them don’t even buy them because all three of these companies are too busy giving these bags to the celebrities as gifts the only people that really purchased these hand bags are the real hard working people.

Louis Vuitton bags have pockets, not all but it depends on the style of the bag. Only two my eleven don’t have pockets and one of the two came with a detachable pochette. I enjoy all of my luxury bags. As for the quality, any contemporary bag from the trifecta of fashion houses is not worth the price tag in 2023. Just my opinion.

Celebrities get things like this for free, yes, but they certainly have the funds to purchase their own if they wanted. Whoever can afford it, has the right to have it, regardless of style or celeb inspiration.

The very wealthy don't wear these brands anymore there are leather goods with no logos, small luxury brands. Gucci, new Channel, Fendi, LV bads they don't buy anymore

Most luxury products are wealth signifiers... in that sense it is not a scam... people want to show their wealth with symbols, artifacts, cars... A real brand name product means real value ... it is a complicated thing.... working class people are wearing like cheap duplicates which are looking and feeling exactly the same... but the owner knows it is fake so it is not as satisfying to them... but at least the people seeing the bag think it is very expensive... but often we know by the look of people, their clothes, their tired energy (mind you I am working class) that the bag is probably a fake .... so yeah.... people are buying the illusion of exclusivity... and that is luxury...

For those of you who want to know what he thinks of the bag, he concludes on another video short that he would value the bag at $90, but it's sold for $1200 (most likely because of the brand name). In conclusion, he says it's not worth it. Watch his other vid for a detailed explanation.

Thank you so much for helping us to understand what we are buying. Very helpful. As a regular Chanel customer, to me, only small part of it is status, but actually it is the design and the finish of the product that I can pair up with many things (t-shirt and jeans or evening dresses) nicely. I have bought very beautiful leather bags/wallets but I don’t use them as much. They could be too heavy, have inconsistent natural marks but that is not pretty. I am afraid, pretty designs come first. Louboutin shoes are excellent example, they don’t necessary use best leather, the heels are simply painful to walk for 2 mins! BUT, ladies just keep buying them. Fashion speaks to the hearts rather than heads. Just to share, leather quality is very small part of it, the hardware, the design overall, the colour, the on-trend finish, plus the experience to the boutique are all important factors. I have seen lots of excellent quality leather bags on sale, 75% off, still no one buy them. Sad but true.

This is all well said. Tanner is just doing these videos to get the views, but clearly people don't buy Chanel bags specifically for leather quality. Status is absolutely a huge part of it as well as design/aesthetic, as you mentioned.

You want a heavy finish on a wallet. Wallets are used daily and they live inside bags getting rubbed against all kinds of things, they can also have things spill on it etc so a very heavy finish is appropriate for the use case.

I have a quilted jumbo flap in black caviar leather. I bought it pre-loved so I don’t feel too bad about the price I paid even though he’s saying the leather isn’t the greatest. It will be passed down to my daughter eventually and it’s in absolutely beautiful condition for its age.

It’s called the caviar wallet. You can also get it in the smooth, which in my opinion is nicer.

I have worked as business architect and designed business models based on decision making science , and every time I look at the reports by human factors researchers I feel disappointed… The brands play the hidden cards and logically you can’t convince a consumer that what some luxurious or ultra luxurious brands promise as quality, is 99% illusion.

I used to think luxury brands weren’t worth the money… until I found a LV wallet. I used to replace mine once or twice a year before. I’ve had that one for 15 years now. Not worth it for fads, but your everyday items may be worth investing in. I spent more before replacing them. If the quality is there, the price is worth it IMO 🤷🏻‍♀️ (btw 2 dollars usd in it, no id, downtown Toronto, no way to return, that’s why I kept it)

I have a great calfskin crossbody bag from Florence that has a clasp structure similar to the Birkin but not as square overall. I love it.
