@@trinaq I doubt if it was his observing ability, he was the one who answered the phone when an employee from the hotel called to tell they had found an eyelashcurler in Chandler's hotelroom and Chandler told only him he met Donald Trump ( was it...?) at the elevator in the hotel. So when he heard Monica say she had lost her eyelashcurler and she had met DT at the elevator he could put two and two together, quite simple. He was the only one who knew both facts.
