I would like to make a honorable mention of Singed who riot apparently likes to blame everything on him. Ionians distancing of pacifism? Singeds warcrimes in noxian war Shimmer and the plague of it in zaun? Singed. Warwick? Singed. Victor? Singed was a big part of his mentoring Jinx? Singed revived her. He has a small journal of experiments trying to fuse 2 people toghether. Riot loves blaming him of anything and its quite fun.

Should add a note that Shimmer is now only cannon, in league lore, because riot not too long ago (after arcane was released) retconned what lore is cannon. same with singed having a relationship with Victor. I don't disagree that singed is in the top as well, just that he has gotten some extra roles in league lore because of Arcane and Riot being bad at keeping lore going over the last few years.

11:34 I think it's really important to point out kindred lore and death lore runs even deeper, every region used to have their own version of death but once they are forgotten they die themselves, so for example in the shadow isles it has become a problem for death to be remembered. Kindred is just one death that is really popular among the regions, known in damcia noxus and I think freljord

Don't forget he announced it during the ceremony right before he walked up the stairs to ascension. So the only people who heard what he announced it were all there. The only ones who lived the blast because of Xerath's choice of pushing Azir of his ascension were the people who didn't hear that he freed the slaves. So it would explain why everyone who are decendents of Shurima only know 2 things: if their god-emperor came back Shurima, if they become Azir's servants or chamber (basically announce loyalty to him) they will bask in living conditions that were told in storys by their forefathers as their glorious times or fear him because he is going to find out who are the decendents of the slaves and will enslave the descendants back into slaves. Remember anyone that was within the blast of, now, Xerath's ascension died; Azir included. Thankfully because of reasons unknown and not explain, yet, Azir was within the vicinity of where he could be called back with his or by his descendants of his DNA (I wish riot makes a lore where Shuriman science and magic was explained, but they never will because it's too hard I guess) and complete his ceremony thousands of years later. To what we know and how the story ended, Azir wants to rebuild Shurima. Xerath has his own powers and has the powers of the Sun Disk to create new warriors of incomplete ascended warriors. The 2 best bros are now at odds because of years of torment of the energy man. There is no continuation on whether or not, what are Azir's policies are for his rebuilding. We don't know if he knows that his subjects know he abolished slavery or not. That's the cliffhanger we are theorizing currently.

The fact that Singed isn't even in the Top 10 really shows that this community has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Singed has the best character and the best stories in the lore and I am not talking about his Arcane version

A small thing about Sylas' lore, he succeeded! In the mageseeker game Jarvan relented after basically everyone in his life left to defend terbisia (a mage city he ordered an attack on to kill all the mages there) and abolished the mageseekers.

The Still Here cinematic goes even deeper into its relationship with Kindred (I believe Necrit did a great analysis on it). In the flames after the scene with Aatrox, one can see lamb's silhuette in the fire. Aatrox WANTS to die, but as a Darkin, literally cannot. And the next scene shows old Yasuo in a fight with bandits, saving his own life to knock the last bandit/leader out of range of the rain of arrows, and accepting his own death in the same moment. Among the arrows is a glowing one heading straight for Yasuo - lamb's arrow - while the background represents wolf, watching, waiting to see if he gets to hunt. Also, it feels wrong to mention Jhin and not mention his influence on Hwei.

League lore is amazing for every character on this list there could be a dedicated 1h film talking about their lore and it wouldn't get boring even for a second

Nilah has some really good lore too because she's just connected to so many champions in some way. Braum also has good lore because of the fact that he essentially has no lore. I still wonder when the questions about Braum would be answered, and it's kinda sad that no Freljord champions made the list because the power struggle is such a great part of the lore. Even to the point where it was the first ever secondary quest

Pyke is one of the most fun. Getting multiple executes in a team fight sounding like a damn slot machine going off.

Minor note on Aatrox. Zoe wasn’t the aspect of twilight when Aatrox was sealed in his sword. It was her predecessor.

I can't talk about lore but Singed definitely has the best short stories in all of runeterra.

18:54 the dagger didn’t (exactly) miss Viego, Kalista deflected it with her spear thanks to her awareness and reflexes, however it hit Isolde and so she was poised and died after Kalista returned from Helia

Pantheon's lore after the Ruination is also so good

18:48 the assassin did not fail. Kalista was there and used her spear to deflect the dagger that was thrown at Viego, which ended killing Isolde instead. Kalista blamed herself for that, thus going to the Blessed Isles. Quick explanation of the first few chapters of the written novel ;)

Just a note, the assassin didn’t miss Viego, Kalista was able to deflect the weapon away from viego which sadly went straight into Isolde.

@@EternityWithYou yes, but the event is happening right now, and if we remember correctly, riot games team said, that EVERYTHING that came out (story/lore-wise) is going to be canon.... therefore, I'm going to quote the very first paragraphs of the kalista event in wild rift: - "A Redemption so Elusive: Kalista, the Spear of the Argent Throne, Princess of Camavor, will set off on a sea voyage to the legendary Blessed Isles the next day in search of a chance to save her beloved friend, Isolde, the queen who was victim of an assassination attempt. The voyage sounds nothing but preposterous to Kalista. Should she not be convincing Viego to face reality, and to guide him - like what her grandfather had bade her before passing - instead? Can redemption be found in the Blessed Isles? Is it worth leaving behind all that she holds dear to pursue something that may not even exist?" Here they are making it sound like the actual target was Isolde.

Zoe literally is the aspect who keeps doing mischievous things and progressing the story, as mentioned in Fiddle and Aurelion, also Ryze has the scripts to the world, Kayle and Morgana are amazing in explaining liberty Vs authority

They could expand shaco's lore into a younger version of isolde using his abilities to create him and after seeing him end in the way he did she became scared of her own abilities, even that could become a reason for her to reject viego initially. She was scared of hurting him.

For morde's lore, the neat thing when he does come back to Runeterra is that Riot will forget about Rell who is TRAINED her WHOLE LIFE to fight against Morde because of her ferromancy power... cough cough Yorick in Ruination cough

There was the Sentinals of Light event back then where we saw that, when Viego revived Isolde (after collectig her aspects like kindness adnt etc.. (gwen was her last part)) even Isolde was not happy with the ruination what Viego did and at that moment Akshan killed her whith his reviveig gun. After all Viego lost all his power and support aka Tresh and he got locked up in i machine where he cant escape.

One more thing to add is that Xerath is the one that conducted a ritual to kill Azir's relatives to ensure his acension to the throne

The thing with a lot of lore in this universe is that many piggyback of off other champions. There's champs like Fiddle, Asol, Ryze, Lissandra, etc. who mainly impact the entire world of Runeterra. Then there's Jhin, Viego, Azir, Mordekaiser, Sylas, etc. which impact many other champions their stories. It's hard to judge the actual quality of their individual lore since they are neccesary for many other champions to even be relevant. The best standalone lore for a champion would probably be Camille in my opinion.

Honorable mentions: Swain, Ryze, Pyke, Bard, Olaf, Shen/Zed, Camille, and of course one and only Shako

I just love Kindred. I think it is the best embodiment of Death that I've ever seen or heard in any book, game or movie.

Sacred Isles existed for quite a while and noone tried to ditch in a corpse to revive it. But then Viego came, and I don't know if he knew of the consequences or not (I guess he did, because if there weren't any warnings, then someone would already try to do what he did), but he still went "fck it. Let's give it a shot". It's kinda nagging at me.

If you like viego's lore you should read the Ruination book, its really good!

His reason is because Xerath backstabbed him during Azir's moment of achieving his goal. It's like doing a project that took you 10 years to make and then your partner that you considered as a blood-brother. Then he just pulls the plug, taking all your work destroys it and burns it and then runs away with any extra funds that you can possibly do. Not only that he tries to unalive you through in secret. How much rage can you think from that betrayal would feel like? The anger. Sure it's wrong to even try to say that unaliving Xerath's hometown is justice but what should he do with all that anger? Heck, how do you make a bird man that is ascended heal from that kind of trauma? The question now is how will riot and their writers progress Azir's, Xerath's, the 2 brothers and Shurima's story forward? I think if somehow we get a new ascended champion we can see a progression between Azir accepting progress towards the creation of his greatest creation and his undoing. Or potentially see the newly ascended help bridge Azir and Xerath into understanding each other better and potentially see a compromise of them both. It would be interesting to see what kind of resolution they reach if there is one planed in the future. It would be an interesting character development to see if Azir is willing to forgive his ex-brother and Xerath to see admit and break his resolve that maybe he could've done things differently, and potentially see a redemption arc from him. That's the cliche solution I can see from their story.

Galio's lore is the very underrated. Its very sad and you will understand his voice lines once you heard his story. If people knew galios lore he be definetly up on this list.

It's confusing because they've retconned this many times. Legends of Runeterra has shown us there's many more Darkin out there. The Mageseeker game has a lore node which tells us there's at least 5 darkin alive, which are the 4 we have as champions (Aatrox, Va(a)rus, Rhaast & Naafiri) and Xolaani. Both of these came out before the most recent retcon of the entire universe.
