I recently purchased a similar unit from Champion and needed a little more help than the provided schematic. Watching your video did the trick. You're videos are always top notch and I just subscribed to ensure I won't miss the new ones. Thanks again, and safe travels!!

The newer models have redesigned the oil fill and added an extended piece to make draining the oil easier, good idea about the funnel, will have to try it. I have two and they have performed well for over two years now.

The 2000w ones weigh around 50lbs versus 100lbs or more for a 4000w. A lot of times I only need to use one at a time, only need 2 when running the AC or MIcrowave so it makes it easy to move around a 2000w model rather always having to use the 4000w which would be overkill to just charge up the batteries and light loads and cheaper to run fuel wise.. Also they fit nicely in my trucks tool box for storage.

Oil changing hack. :) Insert the funnel and apply slight pressure as you drain it to keep it in. It pours right out the end!. Was so glad when I figured this out. Nonetheless, LOVE this generator! Thanks for the video, I learned some stuff. :)

I have the same generator, one of the best boondocking purchases I've made. I have thousands of hours on mine and only changed the spark plug once, and regular oil top offs. I've never had a problem and my life depends on this generator when it gets -30c in Canada.

Thanks! I was able to fix my generator thanks to you and this video. I didn't know that the spark arrestor was in that pipe! I thought the spark arrestor was that little screen on the clamp! Once I took that out , it started running! Now, it's clean and going back into the exhaust pipe. If I have a problem in the future, I'll definitely be looking that that part!

Thanks Ray (as usual!) for yet another very informative and easy to follow video. Based on your original review, last spring I purchased two of the units with parallel kit exactly as you did. Also, I find it convenient to either take just one unit for "battery top-off", or both units if we anticipate needing the a/c. Since I didn't have any 99% Iso handy, on the advice of another You Tuber, I used a propane torch/pliers to "cook" the oil/carbon nasties out of the exhaust screens. They came out looking like new! After both sets were buttoned up again, I used a little 409 cleaner to spiff up the cases.

just a tip : when you change the oil , take a pvc pipe about 3 inch long that just dont fit on the motor where the dipstick is . slice the pipe al the way and angle the ends so it fits youre mashine. then you have a oil change divce that dont leak and you dont have a mess inside the mashine. here is a link to one that made one kzread.info/dash/bejne/mHuEu8N7h5rFXZM.html best wishes from sweden 😊😊

you can eliminate the oil drainage problem by holding the funnel backwards toward your oil drain hole and tipping the machine off the tailgate to allow the spout to point down to a catch can.

I realize this is an old video and I believe you presently don't have the Champions right now but here's another tip... Mine started to surge badly when in econo mode.. These things don't have a fuel filter other than the screen in the filler neck so not surprised I found crud in the carburetor bowl and also cleaned the idle jet... I also installed a filter in the fuel line to the carburetor to prevent this from happening any time soon... Runs like a champ again... (pun intended) Appreciate all your videos.... Thanks

@@LoveYourRV Mine's 8 years old as well.... Since installing the solar it hasn't seen much use other than the odd cloudy rainy day I'll use it for a bit to charge the batteries. Control Module failed earlier this year where Champion's excellent customer service shipped me a new one free of charge.. Generator would go into overload with a load as small as my stock converter let alone the 125 amp charger. Take care...

I have two of the older models that Costco sold. They're red and only have one removable side - the rear. I bought two of them so I could stack them and run my a/c. So, MY problem was trying to get the spark plug out. I watched your video and saw that you 'simply' wiggled that thing off the top of the plug. I'm off to my shop to 'simply' wiggle the plug thing off. Should all be a piece of cake now. This one wouldn't start when I went out to do my monthly generator starts (I have four generators). These two, an older 3500 watt Champion, and that new Predator 3500 from Harbor Freight.

Nice video. I was wondering if you could just have used the oil funnel in reverse to drain the oil instead of putting a rag to guide the oil out? I am really on the edge about getting one of these or the Honda. How's it holding up?

I hope you don't run them while they are still in your truck tool box. I bought 1 of the newer ones and they have a little rubber slide to drain the oil. No mess. I was wondering about running without the spark arrestor. You wouldn't have to worry about it getting plugged up.

Tony Marshall I just store them in the box. I have seen some modifications to run them in a box, with fans and exhaust ports, etc but they are so light for me, I find it easy to pop them out and run them whereever the noise will be the least for me or anyone close to me.

Ours does not have dbl pane windows. Wife's health has been a detriment to more camping however I go pretty often alone with the dog. I have 2 135 w solar panels and a 2000 w inverter and 4 6v golf cart batteries w/ a 25A controller and seldom need the generator except for A/C in summer. Wish the bike rack was larger and able to carry 800 lb. and I could bring the ATV. With our setup we can dry camp w/o much generator use. I would be full time where the lil woman is a home body. Too much to see to sit at home when retired from the "grind".

gary sheldon Ya, the double pane windows are nice, they really cut down the outside noise. I only have two golf cart batteries and then I left the original 12 volt battery as a back up that I can switch over too. Just going to add a couple 100 watt panels in a week or so as a Xmas gift. Will see how that goes and may add two more down the road. I don't mind running the Champion, hardly hear it if it is at the front of the fifth wheel, but would like the option especially in close quarters like a national park campground to be able to go solar for the most part.

will this unit run on eco mode with coleman mach 8 9200 btu AC( 1300w running watt i think) its like 60-70% load and the fuel wont last 4hr with ac running i guess?

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    5 жыл бұрын

A lot will depend on the temps and how much cooling is required. The compressor on an AC unit cycles on and off based on how much cooling power is needed. If hot and humid it draws more energy to cool. At the full 1300 watts the ECO mode may help a bit, but not much in my experience. Any load that high increases the engine RPM to near full.

Maybe try renting a few different brands and wattages before buying to compare for yourself. I would think a smaller size motor would use less fuel as long as it wasn't taxed to the limit.

Hard to calculate exactly but I'd say I have averaged boondocking 100 days a year for 3 years at roughly 4 hours a day generator run time per day split between two generators so roughly 600 hours per generator if I have the math right.

  • @AcadianHome

you estimate 600hrs on each generator,? hhhm im impressed so becuz theyre light weight and low cost buy 2 and special cord to run in parrallell now get 4000 watts for 1300 plus tax and light wgt advantage portability. ok so i want buy one to safely run my computers flat screen radio yamaha advertised they use pulse width modulation and voltage regulator in theyre inverters so just wondering if you use these only for ac and micro or have you been using lap top computers and flat screens and these are my main concerns , some low cost inverters when run out of gas have voltage spikes and fry electronics micro processors so is the yamaha over sold by marketing of do these have these features and just dont advertise them. since you did electronics repair wondering if you knew the quality of the voltage on these units thanks if these things really have 600 hrs on them and are safe i may buy one .

Did it sit a long time? Are you at high elevation? Sounds like a problem with the carburetor maybe, running too rich. The manual says the air fuel mixture isn't adjustable. A guess you checked the air filter and it's not plugged. Maybe run some fuel system cleaner through it.
