Challenging Scindapsus Treubii Variegated Propagation, Care and Acclimatization | With Updates!

I can't remember how I come to acquire this plant... but it has been with me since the early days of variegated scindapsus coming out from the woodworks (i.e. Indonesian jungles). It had a hard time acclimatizing to my garden and living space. In this episode that spans over 8 months, I not only propagate this plant, but slowly acclimatize it so that it can withstand our living environment. I share the propagation process in details, giving you front-row seat to the entire process. As usual, I show update at the later half of the video witha satisfying finish at the end!

    @@onlyplants well the one unfurled leaf i do have did arrive to me curled and has stayed that way. but the ones i've seen from other people aren't like that. i think maybe i gave it too much light so i moved it. i'm hoping the new leaf grows less curled. 🤞🤞

    Awesomeee, good luck with them. If you see them start to wilt, consider tenting them to seal in humidity, and work your way down from there to acclimatize.

    Yeah I think the variegated scindapsus will become more vigorous and healthy as we propagate generations of them. But for now they require that special attention to propagate

    Curling on scindapsus can also be caused by overwatering. Only the person will know which is it. 😀

    My snake scale scindapsus haask is probably my most difficult. Every propagation died and the mother plant has to live in a terrarium for the humidity. I don't think it's meant to live in my home.

  • @onlyplants

    @onlyplants

    8 ай бұрын

    Slowly acclimatize it. Its possible 😀 each generation of propagation should be able to live outside the humidity better

    Could you elaborate on the nature of variegation in this plant? Is it truly genetically based (ie a form of differential gene expression in response to the environment) rather than chimeric? If so I'm failing to understand the "evolutionary motivation" for the variegated color.

  • @onlyplants

    @onlyplants

    8 ай бұрын

    Im not qualified to talk about the science of variegation. But nearly all plants species and even hybrids will produce variegated (with no known survival benefit) aberrants from time to time. While some are rarer than others ,they can be found everywhere… in the wild, in propagation nurseries, and of course in TC labs.
