Challenging Course in Mechelen - News - Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping

Спорт

Leg nine of the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping came from Mechelen (Belgium) with a challenging course which made the riders scratching their heads, wondering if it would deliver a lot of clear rounds.
12 riders qualified through but as Christian Ahlmann and Daniel Deusser didn't make it through to the Jump Off it was clear that there will be a ninth name on the role of honor for this World Cup™ season.
With a lot of bad luck for Kevin Staut and Lorenzo de Luca, and a brilliant clear round Roger Yves Bost wins his first World Cup™ Jumping leg this season.

The standard has become so high that the course designers are making the jumps more and more difficult. I think they are asking too much of the horses now.

There was a bad set up at a schooling jumper show I was recently at. It was supposed to be a regular bending line, but someone set the jumps too close together, which made it require a serpentine motion instead of a regular bend. The serpentine then demanded a really tight turn after a fairly big oxer(three feet, big for a schooling show), then two lead changes in open space just to get in front of the jump straight, which was another oxer. Me and my horse did it fine, as he tends to be quite brave and forgiving for weird distances, but several other students refused it just because of the strange set up. If they’re doing things like that at schooling shows I can’t imagine the stress they’re putting on more advanced riders.

Thisname If he didn't know how to ride his horse he wouldn't be in the world cup, trust me. Sometimes riders do mistakes. He obviously counted the strides when he walked it himself, it just didn't go as planned. He probably accidently turned to late before the fence or whatever so the distance to the fence ended up to far away so the amount of strides he counted wasn't enough. It's really hard you know, and lack of sense of distance is the biggest reason to why people get stuck on low levels with their horses in showjumping. Stop thinking you know better than a world cup showjumper. (sorry for bad english, i hope y'all understand anyways)

You can’t exactly expect a horse to be calm and collected over a jump off round with fences this high...some horses are more level headed and chilled than others, and some are very excitable and hot. Either way, jump offs aren’t about looking pretty, they’re about getting over the fences clear as quickly as possible. If that means your horse gets a little bit hot and you need to hold them steady, so be it.

Sophia- Maria it's unconventional, that doesn't mean it's worse. Bosty 's style often looks as if it made the job harder for the horses when it really doesn't. He almost always gets them to the right spot in the right way and is very balanced. I'm not saying it's the best way of riding (and I don't think he can do it any other way) but it sure is ok for the horses and they can get the job done this way. They're not princesses after all...on top of that he truly loves his horses

I can 100% see that he definitely knows how to get those distances and how else are you going to stay on the horse with this type of riding without balance? There's no doubt he's skilled and that he loves his horses but I still can't help but feel bad for them when they're getting their faces yanked at every time he lands. (Please do understand I'm not a perfect rider by any means but this is just what I'm being taught so this is just what I think)

+Sophia- Maria I honestly agree. I mean I'm a hunter jumper and there's a way to get around the course, even a jump-off without yanking the horse's face around. Even the more hot horses. I see more and more riders use the horse's mouth as steering instead of using their legs and seat, it's especially bad when you see top riders do it.

People need to learn how to get soft hands if they want to ride with a bit. I really wish it was a rule to not have a bit in competitions, I ride all my horses bit less and they perform wonderfully and never give me attitude or disrespect. It’s sad people can’t even keep their hands still when riding to a jump. They should have more rules about the riders eq and what kind of bit they use.

People come up with excuses like, "I use soft hands so it hurts the horse less" IT STILL HURTS THE HORSE, WETHER YOU TUG REPEATEDLY OR HAVE "SOFT HANDS" learn how to ride in a hackamore. ... So against bits but has no idea hackamore can be just as painful smh If horses hated bits so much and it hurt them they would show it and not take it, bits are supposed to put pressure not pain..just like a hackamore uses pressure..just in another place. Now different bits use different ways to put pressure, just like sidepull and hackamore works a little different even tho both are bitless. Anything can be used wrong and cause pain for horses/animals we have as pets if you misuse it, everything from blankets/rugs and leg wraps to bits, spurs, saddles etc. Anyway, the bit doesnt automatically hurt the horse just cause its metal and is in its mouth. I've seen so many people use hackamores and thinking it would just be better for them to use a light bit for more comfortable control rather than tug and drag like a crazy person with a hack.

  • @TKDDLJ09

    @TKDDLJ09

Bit less is literally just as bad. With a hackamore you put pressure on the nose, which can stop clear breathing from the nostrils if you put enough pressure, and most people do with it, you have to have so so light on the rein for a hackamore, otherwise you can obscure the breathing. A bit is supposed to make the horse suck on it, and feel a little pressure. A horse is also a lot stronger than what we give them credit for, they can withstand a lot. :D

That's more about Hunt-seat/Hunter jumping. This is showjumping, just about being fast and clean. Hunter/hunt-seat jumping is more about your equitation, form, etc.

True!! and their posture is horrible!!! They don't understand the concept of a straight spine!!! If ever in doubt if its a man or women on a horse, just like at the spine and see if its straight or hunched!!! :D

Not exactly fair guys. You can't just generalise like that. It may be the case but at the same time look at people like Monty Roberts. You gonna call him sloppy too? Just saying, don't generalise like that.

Lauren Barnes it is fair to generalising in Thai case when 9 out of 10 male show jumping riders have a curved back instead of a straight one. :) So yes, I will judge them for not straightening their back.

They are not trash. You may disagree with some of their methods(which I definitely do) but they are good riders with good horses to be at this level. You can state your opinion or have criticism without blatantly calling incredible riders trash
