Challenger vs Charger Drag Race: Hemi Swap 1970 Dodge Challenger Racing a 73 Dodge Charger Big Block
Two old school Dodge muscle cars drag race at the Irwindale 1/8th mile drag strip for a 70 Challenger vs 73 Dodge Charger showdown. On the prepped track we'll get more traction than street racing, so tire selection comes into play. I'm in my 5.7 Gen 3 Hemi V8 swapped 1970 Dodge Challenger and KZread car builder, welder, and master mechanic @NightWrencher is in his 1973 Dodge Charger with a 361 cubic inch big block V8. It's a battle of fuel injection vs carburetor, manual transmission vs automatic, drag radials vs street tires. The 5.7 Hemi vs big block Mopar V8, no nitrous nos, no twin turbo, just all motor classic V8 muscle car horsepower.

Nice to see someone racing a late 3rd gen charger.
361 was not an engine anyone ever associated with a drag strip sadly haha. He needs a 383 or 440
That Charger ran exactly how it looked! 😔
Did grandma get her grocerices?
Why would someone want to put an old 361 in a 73 Charger? If I'm not mistaken, the 361 was a 1950s motor.
Charger needs 4.10 and 3500 stall
I'm a Mopar man to my heart and I love both cars it doesn't matter who wins..can't go wrong either way.."Dodge, the brotherhood of muscle"
That challenger shot out of the hole like a rocket! Beautiful camera work and editing as always 👌
Drag Radials will help a lot. I picked up .50+ on my 340 Duster. Dropped from 12.70s to 12.20s. I was able to launch and hook at 4k vs 3 k spinning.
He had better get working on that charger, or he'll never beat you. You have a 130 hp on him.
That opening shot looks so good. I wish I can see LA someday.
I have a friend working on a 3rd gen Hemi (392) Automatic swap into his 67 Barracuda coupe. He is a retired machinist so his obstacles are the "money, buy, hold, money, buy, hold" thing
Good to see another track visit. Speed is pretty good for the 1/8th Mile. 👍
Hate to say it but that Charger needs some serious love, but its great to see him (and you) actually out there driving your cars.
When we found out the Charger has a 361 in it, anyone who's familiar with Mopars expected this outcome...
The charger could have ran faster out of the hole if rev was right and hit the gas on last yellow light. Still need to be tuned. The challenger was badass too
I love the challenger set up. A lot of respect and props for the work hours with madness behind it. I can imagine what you went through to have it the way you want it.
Thanks for the video 👍 it's always nice to race with your friends at the track,we go it's like test n tune.
Not much 3rd gen charger content on KZread. Earned a sub from me
Looking good! Great video!
