Video idea: takeoff and landing competition. 2 or 3 tries in each airplane, scoring based on short-field landing. Who can get the plane stopped in the shortest point on the runway. Landing before the end line and crash are DQ. Best composite score wins. Challenge round - repeat this with 25 kt crosswind.

15:49 I used to be on a carrier (good ole cellblock 73 for anyone wondering) so i can confirm that the navy will not only let you continue to do repairs after you die, but *expects* you to continue to do them after you die.

Serious and realistic military simulations is why I keep coming back to GR

It wouldn't be GR if they didn't cock-up the landings. USAF Phantoms had an deployable emergency arrestor hook for use with airfield Rotary Hydraulic Arrestor Gear (RHAG). This has been common for high-performance USAF (and NATO) combat jets since the late 1950's.

I'm going to spam my idea of either thunderdome air to air battle with F4's only armed with as many SUU gunpods as possible, or a fake mission where all F4's again armed only with SUU gunpods have to destroy SAMs maybe SA2 or less just so weaseling and an APP to the SYS would be possible. JUST FUN with BRRRRTTT. Hopefully something fun, simple and chaotic with lots of ridiculousness to increase that lovely, lovely viewing time. Maybe simple enough for the boys to do if Cap needs a break or he can just be an Air Battle Manager and laugh at everything going wrong. Love your work, it makes milsim and real pilots question their own abilities I am sure 😂

Cap, perfect takeoff comment at the beginning as you head out to sea: "See you later losers". Every real jet fighter pilot today, not in a war, must think or feel this as he heads out for the ultimate peacetime joy ride in his 40 million dollar aircraft that costs 40 thousand dollars per flight hour to operate.

In the book: war for the hell of it. A USAAF F4 pilot is on a carrier for the first time. He's on the flight deck at night seeing carrier landing for the first time. And goes on to describe two violent crash landing of A4s. Only to see them taxi away and everyone on the deck pretending they didn't see the crash landings. Only after about a dozen A4s land. Does it dawn on him that what he described crash landings are just regular rutine carrier landings.

Leave it to the reapers to attempt landing the F4E on a carrier when the manual SPECIFIALLY warns against such an stunt. I must admit I'm surprised it took you guys so long to make this video, as I was honesty expecting this malarky on day 1! Now with that in mind, I have to admit, that's pretty impressive flying, as the F4 is hard to land even on a 10k ft runway let alone a carrier.

My understanding is the E model although not a naval variant, did have the same structural hook as the naval F-4 variant.

This reminds me of the 70s toy game of landing a plastic Phantom on a plastic runway aslong as you had a long enough hallway or room and the strings didnt get twisted, great memorific vid you lot

Why are you landing on a stationary aircraft carrier?

The truth is that F-4E was never a Naval version due to the change in the limited system, it also could not be used or fitted with heavy weapons due to limited excess, only the weapons were used, the A-A/AGM was used for naval defense, which bombs the version was F-4B/C. It was like the first Phantom F-4, its first production for USMC as naval and air defense, then F-4E was for USAF defense, then improved the performance that failed Naval version, also F-4S/J was the last update F-4B/ C late 1996

F4 was used in the us navy, black smoke dragons. Ugly to be on deck with them CVN69 VAW 121!!!!!

@@dexlab7539 I've flown (in real life) multiple different types of aircraft. The same principles apply to each and every one. "It's a new model" doesn't excuse a pilot from not realising his approach is unstable and taking action to correct it.
