Beautiful and unique chest. Please give us more tutorials on the glaze. It's a technique that I'd really like to try. Love the colors and the mixtures of the glazes. Thanks for a great instructional video !!
I don't know how old this tutorial is, and I don't know how I missed it but I love it! I thought I had watched ever single one of your tutorials, some of them 3 or 4 times.The piece is stunning. I wouldn't be able to sell it. Ever. Did you keep it? Your finish is exquisite. All those layers, all that patience! As I was watching, I couldn't help but wonder what Kacha might have done with it. That's one of the things I love about watching the two of you. I watched the one where you sent each other colors and, of course, Kacha sent you gold.🙂 Never have I ever used gold, and although I admired her work, I never thought I would, but I've grown to love it. Your work though fits in more with a subtle look, and every time I watch another one of your tutorials I think that's the one I'm going to try. (Your verdigris finish hypnotized me.) Then I watch another one, like this one, and think, Oh, that's the best. The thing is, they're all the best. I'm curious; did you go to art school? Your talent, your eye, your ability to visualize what you want before you've even begun, is quite extraordinary. And, you take on massive projects...like your entire house!... and never seem to run out of steam in spite of the fact that you also have a "real" job. I've loved using glazes in the past, mixing them with paint that I made myself because none of these products were available at the time. Also, I had an obsession with making my own paint: chalk, milk and oil with pigments, but now, with all of these products, I'm not quite so obsessed anymore. I had a wonderful book of old recipes, but it's back in the States, sadly, and I live in Italy now. I'm off to watch another of your tutorials. It's too hot to move, so I don't feel guilty about not cleaning the kitchen.🤣 Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your knowledge, talent and hard work so generously with all of us who follow you. 😘😘😘
Again, so beautiful! love the colour tones. Definitely going to try using more glaze. Thank you.

Trina Williams ... thank you so much Trina 🙏💙... I really appreciate your kind comment and words of encouragement to applying more ideas for glazing ... it really is easy! I was very sceptical about using glaze because it would not allow the play time ... plus I wanted to mention right away that you don’t have to buy a bunch of glazes ... you can make your own with the chalk colour collection you already have !! 👍🏻👍🏻😉
I love this piece of furniture and what you did with it!!!! Love, love. Love it!!! I can’t wait to work with glaze!!!! I love when you use glaze on your pieces it actually excites me. It always takes me a while to try something new because I want to learn as much as I can before attempting to be wasteful of my products. I make cold process soap, lotions, linen spray, candles, paint furniture and I have spent and spend lots of money, so I try to be mindful of what I am doing as best as I can. Lol! So many hobbies I need a KZread channel and to sell my products as I am loaded with soaps and lotions for years! Lol!!! I guess I am all over the place trying to find a happy medium. Although, painting furniture is my favorite and least dangerous hobby lol! Working with lye can be dangerous so I do have to suit up before making my soaps for safety!! Thank you for another awesome video! Drue 😊❤️🐕🦺🐾🌻

Nikki Lloyd .... a sleigh bed look gorgeous painted ... so much character effects you can do as well! If you have a moment sometime take a peek at the 4 post wood bed frame I did a few months back ... it a tutorial I did on blending paints ... creating a clouds in the sky look with chalk paint 🎨 The tutorial that I am publishing tomorrow morning is another great blending technique called “ colour meshing “ Because you will have a fair amount of flat surface area ... the colour meshing technique will simplify your blending and give a smoky effect to your colour palate choices! I would absolutely love to see a photo when you do finish your project 😉💙💙💙

Rhonda Whaley ... thank you 🙏 so much Ronda for your kind comment and so glad to hear you would like to give a try to Glazing!! I was nervous 😬 about glaze before I tried ... even my first attempt at it ... it dried so quickly and I could design want I wanted etc, so I put the idea away. Then when I discovered clear glaze first and even the extender product... I was so amazed at how I good work with glaze!! I plan to make lots of fun tutorials on glazing ideas, techniques and fun textures with glaze... all allowing enough time wit work with your project!! The key is clear glaze first!! This allows a good amount of working time ... the extender allows even more time and if you want to work with your project in sections over a few days!! Just put your glaze in a zip lock bag ( tip) I want to show how to blend chalk paint colours with glaze and other fun, inexpensive tools to create decorative finishes! My next tutorial coming this week is using clear glaze only with chalk paint colours ... super , easy and fast!!! I am so excited to share it... so hope you have a chance to take a view of that ( it’s going to be published on Thursday 9 am EST) If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉🎨

Beautiful!!! Would love to see more glazing tutorials. When you made your own colored glaze do you need to still apply the clear glaze before applying the custom color glaze to the piece?
Great job on this awesome piece! Congratulations on bringing her back to life. Question Christina - I always see you seal with wax...could you have sealed this beauty with polyurethane? Just curious! Love your work and looking so forward to more to come.
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
4 жыл бұрын
Ken Motley ... thank so much for the kind comment and glad you liked the tutorial 🙏 You can use polyurethane as that is used to seal wood surfaces but it is a great protector and harder barrier ( I did use it for a vanity converted to bathroom sink table top) as with using waxes as a preference it’s because the wax gives the dry chalk in the paint moister and it also enriches the colour pigment. With it being all natural it’s really just a preference. From Annie Sloan to other chalk paint products they also offer a matte varnish which is applied the same as polyurethane and again giving a stronger barrier for water resistance. Thanks again for watching and definitely more fun ideas for decorative finishes coming soon!😉🎨
Love it more on glaze and waxing do you ever do anything in red are burgundy red

This piece is one of the most beautiful works of art on furniture I’ve ever seen! Do you let the clear glaze dry before adding the dark ones over it?
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
4 жыл бұрын
The clear glaze is for blending. think of adding the clear glaze as buffer to allowing you time and control to blend the next layers you use, its a working medium, plus the clear glaze allows for smother easier blending so no waiting just get the next layer on and you good to go! Hope this helps! 🙏🎨
Love this! Did you to both color glazes at the same time?

Good idea 💡 I have more glaze technique videos available and more to come, I love working with glaze. Thanks again for your kind comment 💙💙
What was the base color of this piece before glaze? I hope I have it in my AS paint arsenal, lol! Love this piece.
Looks like I’m way behind on finding your channel but what other colors would you bring in with black hoosier cabinet with de stresses natural wood grain. Have a cupboard side table. To paint would you do all of them in black. What your opinion
How long of dry time between the glaze and the clear wax? This is one of my all time favorite pieces you recreated! The details pop!
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karla Thank you 🙏so much for your thoughtful comment and definitely try the techniques 💙🎨 As for dry times , I recommend at least half a day to full 24 hours depending on the room temperatures. It generally always best to wait 24 hours because of the layers and this allows everything to fully cure before you apply a clear wax top coat 😉💙💙

Hi Debbie, Thanks for watching!!! Yes you can but you will need to take the wax off, I usually use TSP and a scrub sponge, its pretty easy! ❤️🙏🎨
Do you let the clear glaze dry before putting on the duck egg blue and aubusson?
Beautiful work....and I love the using multiple colors of glazes. Question....when would you give the aging effect with wax and when do you use glaze? and I heard someone say not to use glaze on chalk paint which seems odd...and is this solved by doing the clear glaze first? Thank you in advance!!!

Marianne Martin ... thank you so much for your kind comment and feedback 🙏🎨 Yes you can use glaze with chalk paint, in my experience, I have not any issues or concerns. The clear glaze does act a barrier for how strong the glaze will take into the pores of the paint and I find using the clear glaze first allows more control where and how rich I want the glaze colours to show! You can do either way to create an aged effect. Use clear wax then dark or black or use clear glaze then add your darker colour choice on top allowing you play with the depth and tone just like clear / dark wax. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 🤗💙
Do you use wet or dry rag to wipe off the glaze? Beautiful job by the way.

Hi SAR!! I used a damp rag to wipe off the glaze. Thank you for the kind words!! 🙏🎨❤️
Loved this project. What are the major differences between glazes and wax?

Dianne Markoski ... thank you 🙏 for your kind comment... the difference between glaze and wax is ... Clear wax is to seal the paint and protect, clear wax is always recommended after your chalk paint is applied. Glazes are used as a medium to your paint ... it’s considered a paint medium to create faux finishes ... when using clear glaze is acts a barrier to how much colour or tinted glaze you would like and acts as a control as you create the look your trying to achieve. Glaze does not act as a protective barrier to your chalk paint. So think of glaze as a decorative finish look but not to seal. You want a protective barrier on your completed project for wear, moisture etc or you can use lacquer which is clear and acts as a paint barrier for protection. Hope this helps and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉💙

How much time after you clear glaze until you dark glaze

Mia's shabby chic chalk paint school ... right after! Immediately after the clear glaze is applied you apply the dark or colour glazes. You want your glaze moist in order to work with it and move the colour around where you want. Hope this helps 😉💙
