Fujimoto actually did a great job making people think that the Gun Devil is the final boss and the CSM is just a regular manga that has a simple story line.

First they did not have enough time for AOT you will see what mappa can do in final part. Plus watch JJk if you really want to see what CGI and animation is if given proper time just like CSM.
