I have no idea how accurate this is, but I remember reading once that the American Southern accent is sometimes the easiest American accent for British (specifically English) people to do. I’m an ex-pat and my friends and I love trying to copy each other’s accents; a lot of my British friends can do a really good Southern accent but aren’t as good at the basic generic American accent (or “Generican” as we like to call it).
