Chad Smith Plays “Under The Bridge” | Red Hot Chili Peppers

Chad Smith plays the iconic Red Hot Chili Peppers track “Under the Bridge”.
The song features dynamic changes in the drumming that help build intensity. Starting with a gentle, laid-back groove, the drums gradually build up in the chorus, adding to the song's crescendo and emotional release.
"Under the Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1992), explores loneliness with introspective lyrics and iconic guitar work. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains a beloved classic and live show staple for the band.

To some of the comments out there: I'm thinking he hasn't heard the original version in years. Not like, We're all used to. Those drum parts are really burnt in our minds, wether we can play them, or, not. Especially after hearing them, tons of times, since 1991.

  • @johndoh5182

I'm thinking every time he gets on the stage he's playing however he feels like playing, knowing it's his job to keep time, and provide his flair while not getting in the way of others. He's a great drummer and this stuff just flows out of him and I can see that whenever he performs. So the real question is has he ever played it like he did when recording the song since then? I certainly don't think he tries to or even cares to try. I think he wants to maintain the feel of the original recording and that's it, so I think the best way to say it, maintain the feel, but also play how you feel at the moment. To me that's how it seems he plays and it's always great because he's a great drummer with natural feel.

Wild. I've heard this song so many times. I was a MTV kid back in the day. When he started playing full power I got chills

I played a version of 'Under the Bridge' on my cheap Alesis drumkit, which somebody pointed out that the rimshots sounded like a construction site 😂

Hey hey ...I think we've all been waiting for this one .... This is commitment and identity ....you just know it's Tommy ....He made me want to play like a "rock " drummer back in the 80s....Awesome with Ozzy and Randy ....love you Tommy...

As someone who’s not a musician I appreciate his restraint and waiting till almost 3/4ths of the song is gone before he adds his full drums and it still works so well

This song jams so hard. Every instrument intertwines perfectly with the other.

Chad is a great drummer! He doesn't try to play a lot, doesn't try to get ahead among other instruments, he just plays it to make the song sound cool
